Thai ‘super app’ set to launch with 10,000-baht digital wallet scheme
sandyf replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
World is awash with "super apps" already, Facebook, Twitter etc, certainly not to the benefit of anyone. Phone addicts are well and truly solid state controlled. -
Thai ‘super app’ set to launch with 10,000-baht digital wallet scheme

Of course it is, probably the most advanced cashless society in the world. It is what the people of China want, they don't want to use cash. I went across the river on a ferryboat with the fare around 3 baht, everyone paid by phone except this fool who used money and got no change. Good job Thailand didn't look to the US, hardly got to grips with Chip & Pin. Paranoia is one of the biggest obstacles to progress, as can be seen by the comments. -
Thai ‘super app’ set to launch with 10,000-baht digital wallet scheme

I don't need Google. We have been using the initiatives since Aug 2020 when the WTT was launched. In the early days you could use others allowance but that came to an end when they introduced facial recognition. When the 50/50 appeared my wife was straight into it, teaching family members and neighbours how to use the schemes. Consumers were not required to possess a smartphone, they could go to the bank and get registered, they were issued with a card to make a purchase. All explained on the website at the time. If you insist on google, not that difficult if you stay away from research articles that only want to focus on one aspect. "BANGKOK (NNT) – The Rao Chana scheme has seen a large number of Thais who don’t have smartphones visiting the branches of Krung Thai Bank (KTB) and its mobile units around the country to register in person for the government’s 7,000-baht benefit." https://www.thailand-business-news.com/economics/82920-1-7-million-thais-with-no-smartphones-register-for-rao-chana-benefits -
Not something i have bothered about. I used to get it free under the Flu vaccination program but one year the queue was so long just decided to pay for it on a routine hospital visit. A lot quicker and easier. The doctor is well aware of my age and never asked so the hospital may only have the one available. Government hospitals do all they can to minimise cost, if not what you want you can go private. Couple of months ago my niece bought the pneumococcal vaccine for me so not sure how much she paid. She has just bought the Shingles vaccine and that was 4800 baht so there can be big variations. She will probably try to get me to have another flu so will get her to check.

You really need to keep up. The 50/50 initiative was aimed at the mom and pop stores and there were many market stalls participating. That scheme was based on digital payment, if you didn't have a smartphone you could get a card for the vendor to scan. -

Sounds like sour grapes. Take you never had any benefit from the previous initiatives. -
In April at Bang Saen I was 330 baht for the flu vaccine and 30 baht to be administered.

Lazada Wallet - Is this only available on the Lazada Android App?
sandyf replied to connda's topic in General Topics
Something that may be worth considering is an android emulator for windows such as Bluestacks. You could then run the app on your pc with the associated benefits. PS seen you resolved issue and thanks for that, may be useful at some point. -
Lazada Wallet - Is this only available on the Lazada Android App?
sandyf replied to connda's topic in General Topics
The wallet used to be functional on the browser but then they discontinued being able to fund the wallet. It could only be used to get refunds and you couldn't spend the refunds, only option was to withdraw to your account. Sometime later it just disappeared. I only had one baht in the wallet when that happened. For some reason I could never withdraw that baht as it was not part of a refund. I don't know what happened if you had funds in the wallet, I can't remember any warnings it was going to shut down, but then the app is available I am with you apps are a nightmare and prefer a browser, not really a problem as I only do cash on delivery. -
Indeed and fairly quick once you have the appointment. My wife booked online, all very straightforward. I went to Liverpool for mine a couple of weeks ago and there is always that niggle that some Jobsworth will reject the photo. However bio-metric data is not a problem.

I don't know how many from the UK ever look at the back of their licence. I was given 2 categories on mine, AM and A(restricted to 3 wheels). If someone asked me if I had a motorbike licence I would say no, having never taken a test. Renting within the scope of their licence is another matter entirely as is experience. My wife has had a car licence for over 40 years but couldn't handle the inclines when we went to Koh Chang. Debating the legalities following an accident is a bit pointless, the focus should be on prevention. I would be the first to agree that in that respect Thailand could do a lot more.

The second question is a photo and prefilled. As I said the issue is Question 12 and there to establish the applicant has the appropriate long term permission to reside in the jurisdiction where application is being made. The confusion arises from the question comprising of 2 sentences, the first being "why" and the second "how".

No, it doesn't mean that at all. But there are nations that think they have a god given right to tell other countries how to conduct their affairs.

This article appeared in the Daily Mail on 3rd Oct 2023 and highlights something we should all be aware of, the doctor is not always right. It would appear anti vaxers should pay particular attention.

This is a copy of the supporting docs page with the questions you need to answer. You can see there are 2 questions on financials, Q4 and Q10. You can answer only one and refer the other to the question answered, or answer both if you choose. I would look at it a bit like extensions where you can have income, money in the bank or a combination of the 2. The 10K on Q10 bothers some people but I have seen some be quite successful with a lower amount if they have shown some income in Q4. As far as travel is concerned they ask for the date of arrival and when you intend to leave, that would be 90 days after arrival. I did my last e-visa for visiting family on 21st Sept and didn't provide any flight details other than the arrival flight number, which should be the second leg if not a direct flight. Good luck. It would be delusional to think any government can "protect" it's citizens abroad. All they can do is consider assistance in the event of an emergency, Thailand provided repatriation flights during the pandemic. As far as Israel is concerned, they will pay little attention to anything that Thailand has to say, or any other country. It would be arrogant for anyone to think they can understand the Israeli rationale, bearing mind the Holocaust is still within living memory.

This part. "When she was going to cross the island on a moped, she got skidded and slid over to the other side of the road." and this part "The person who drove Felicia has been questioned by the police and released without a report being drawn up." Was she a passenger, or is it the overtaking driver who "drove" into her. No clear indication of who was driving, or if she was intoxicated after spending the day with friends. Article is consistent with the poor journalism seen here.

Correct, if you live in another country it would be evidence of the right to live there. However the local embassy can exercise discretion and London certainly has accepted documents indicating a physical address. The question is in 2 sentences and the word "current" in the second sentence refers to "consular jurisdiction and residency" in the first. "Applicant must apply for e-Visa via specific Embassy/Consulate conforming with his/her consular jurisdiction and residency. Applicant is required to upload document that can verify his/her current residency." The Hong Kong website has notes on application completion and they refer to it as "legal residence". "Confirmation of legal residence, in the context of the Hong Kong SAR, generally refers to (a) Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card (“A” HKID); (b) Hong Kong Identity Card indicating right to land (“R” HKID) or unconditional stay permit (“U” HKID); or (c) valid stay permit issued by Hong Kong Immigration (for “C” HKID holders). https://hongkong.thaiembassy.org/en/page/visa-info

TM.30 reporting requirement change(?)
sandyf replied to mran66's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I haven't done a TM30 since 2015 and getting an extension has never been a problem in that respect. I couple of weeks ago I went to the UK to renew my passport and although I had a re-entry permit decided to come back on a new visa. I suspect this time with new passport and visa the issue will arise when the extension comes around. However, I am not going to waste the best part of a day and around 500 baht for fuel on the basis of caution. -

I am well aware they both belong to the same holding company Booking Holdings. The websites however are separate and in particular for owner controlled settings which may well be different as they would be set up individually. For privately owned listings the owner can edit the private fees as and when, a mistake on one doesn't mean it will be reflected on another.

I don't know that and neither do you . What I do know is a significant number of the Airbnb hosts have low room capacity and outside the licence requirements. It is only those that own in a condo block that may be in breach of the requirements. The court ruled that in the case of a condo block all rooms in the block should be taken into consideration. Of course on this forum that ruling has been taken to mean all Airbnb, condo block or not, licence or not, are seen to be illegal.
