Members Choice UK to retain EU safety mark in latest Brexit climbdown
sandyf replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Folk didn't know what they were voting for. When Scotland held the referendum they published a 650 page white paper beforehand, if Westminster had done the same there wouldn't be never ending brexit problems. -
VFS Visa agency walk-in without appointment?

Not the best of news. The German Embassy was a bit of a problem, they treated all applications the same. You may not remember but I took the matter up with Solvit and they ruled against them. That being said the service at the embassy was excellent, you were seen by consular staff and got a decision on the spot. -

No doubt you think they have given up selling to the EU in favour of the far east & Oz. This is evidenced by the fact that one in eight small exporters have temporarily or permanently stopped selling to the EU and a further nine per cent are thinking about it, according to the Federation of Small Businesses' Small Business Index. https://www.fsb.org.uk/resources-page/international-trade-how-small-firms-are-responding-to-brexit-challenges.html -

No surprise there, brexiteers have always had their head in the sand. -

Yes experiences differ and yours obviously had little to with product CE certification. You really think those who breach regulations are bothered about who created the regulations. You obviously jumped to one conclusion on the breach of regulations, saving money does not equate to a reduction in quality. Changing a component for one of a similar or better quality may or may not save the company some money. Failing to update the technical file could save the company a substantial amount of money. The UK had lower quality products before CE marking and it wasn't a good thing. Only a certain mentality would want to go back there. -

Would pale into insignificance compared to the cost of brexit. Every chance manufacturers have done very little in respect of UKCA, they do not spend money on government whims until forced. -

Tell that to the companies that can no longer export. -

Amazing how times have changed. When the directives started to appear, CE marking was viewed like the plague by manufacturers and the public alike. High level management took it as a paperwork exercise and didn't think twice about telling employees to breach the regulations in order to save money. -

Delusional brexit rhetoric. Contributions to the EU amounted to 0.6% of income tax in 2015, at the same time the interest on the national debt amounted to 5% of income tax. Tell us how much did the cost of brexit push up the national debt? -

Of course it is a domestic arrangement, do you really think that all imported goods were going to have to carry the UKCA mark. There has not been any implementation of the CE mark for a few years, only recognition. The CE mark belongs to the EU and the UK government no longer has any say in the matter other than recognition. Common sense has prevailed and the UK government has conceded to let the current domestic arrangement continue. I worked for a gas appliance company when the EU directive was published in 1990 and was tasked with getting the product range CE certified. I said during the brexit campaign that politicians had no idea what they were messing with. In an international marketplace you must have international standards whether it suits the brexit mindset or not.. I used to sit on a BSI committee and the process was farcical. If the government and BSI had got their act together, they would have been issuing the directives before the EU and the Kite mark would have prevailed. -

Not quite sure what you are asking. Unless things have changed recently VFS do not have a German office, all visas are done at the German embassy. -
Passport expiring, reentry ok?

Nothing complex about it, you can either check in or you can't, but If you want to disagree that the check in staff will have the final say that is up to you. -

The article is very misleading. The CE mark can be used for certain products under a self certification process and this I think is what the article is referring to. Effectively a domestic arrangement. Many products have however have to be certified in order to use the mark by what is known as a "Notified Body" and for some years now UK manufacturers have had to use a Notified Body located in the EU where the necessary regulations are in place. All UK Notified Bodies were closed down a few years back. Any company engaged in international trade would require the CE mark for many countries other than Europe as it is now established as an international standard. -
how to put a file on phone desktop?
sandyf replied to thoengthaied's topic in Mobile Devices and Apps
You should get the terminology right, I think you mean Home Screen, which would be the equivalent of the desktop on a PC. You should have a File Manager on your phone and you should learn to use it or you will never be able to find anything. Try and locate the File Manager and open it, there should be a folder named "Downloads" and every chance it will be in that folder, if not, there should also be a folder named "Documents" and it may be in there. Phones are a nightmare. There are 2 basic systems, Iphone and Android. Android, although developed by Google is open source and every phone manufacturer tailors the Android to suit their device. Makes it very difficult for people to suggest solutions when they don't know the phone model. -

You can be exact as you want but at the end of the day any airline can deny boarding if passport validity breaches the IATA guidelines. Been there and got the Tee shirt. I was denied boarding with just under 6 months, a stupid oversight on my part. The check-in staff were adamant it had to be over 6 months so I asked to see a supervisor and she said the same. I explained I had come to Amsterdam for a couple of days before catching the China Airlines flight to Bangkok and was only going for 3 weeks and if there were any options. She said she would try phoning Thai Immigration to see what they said but didn't have much hope in getting through. Came back about 20 minutes later and said she had got through, immigration had authorised boarding on sight of a return ticket within the passport validity. She took a copy of my booking and then took me to another desk to be checked in. I was extremely fortunate and came very close to looking for a flight back to the UK. As I said previously - "If you do not have the 6 months the outcome will depend on how it is handled." You can challenge the check in staff, but they will always have the final say. -
Worth a try, but may not work, depends on the router broadcast settings.
-
I have one of those routers and the WLAN keys are generic. They would have been changed to what you wanted when the router was installed. If you follow the guidance from @Treetops you should see the password field and if I remember right the passwords should show in readable text. If that scares you a bit then best wait for 3BB.

This is the text of Q9 9 . The letter from your spouse indicated that you both are still married and he/she acknowledges of your visit. If the question is answered appropriately there should be no need for any further evidence. The 4 main items that should appear in the letter are an address, a telephone number, a date of arrival and a signature.

Airlines are required to follow the IATA guidelines. If you do not have the 6 months the outcome will depend on how it is handled. -
Further to my previous post. In view of the circumstances he should be checking the application status on the website on a regular basis. The visa would normally be delivered by email but as soon as the status changes to "Available" it can be downloaded from the website. It cannot be ruled out that email with the visa goes to the junk, or any other obscure folder and is overlooked.
-
You cannot make that statement based on one situation, you have not mentioned the country involved. My evisa took 3 days and that included a request from the embassy for further evidence. It is always prudent to check your embassies performance when considering making an application and include time for further evidence. It is very unlikely they will ask for any further evidence so the visa will be issued or denied. If it is issued but too late for arrival in Thailand it can either be ignored and allowed to expire or used at a later date as it will have a "use by" period of 90 days. Just in case there is any query over where he was when the application was made he should retain the boarding card for the flight leaving his home country.

When using Google Drive and you want to share something you need to create a link, send that and the recipient can download it. A bit over the top for what you are doing. Simplest solution is just to transfer the photo to the computer, several ways but without using a cable one of the easiest is to use Google Photos. When you take a photo with your phone a copy is created in Google Photos. On your Chromebook open up Google Photos and you should see the photo, click to select, then click the 3 dots and you can download to a folder of choice. You can then send it like a normal attachment, It is a while since I got rid of my Chromebook but if you are using the Chrome browser it should look the same. In the upper RH corner there should be a square from dots, click on that and you will see the Google services, scroll down to find Photos, looks like a coloured propeller. Failing that, key it into the browser. Good luck. BTW. Google Photos is stored on Google Drive but you can't see them on the drive.

Social security benefits and the state pension both come under the social security act so politicians have always referred to the state pension as another benefit. There has never been any monetary entitlement as unlike a private pension there has never been any investment to be part of. However there is an entitlement to be treated equally, in that what ever is available be paid out is done on an equal contributary basis. Anything else amounts to discrimination.
