  1. The statement made was arbitrary and basically incorrect, no mention of the location of the account. My account is registered in the UK long before I came here but has worked here for the last 15 years without a problem as it has no connection to Thailand.
  2. Before making unsubstantiated comments, people should check what appears on their account.
  3. Exactly. I have 2 in the same province, original and main account is in Pattaya but when I came to Chonburi I couldn't pay the PEA with an account outside the area so had to open another. Don't have a card for the second account as both available with online banking or the app. Only time I ever go near a bank is to pick up the paperwork for immigration and that can be at any branch.
  4. Your original statement was incorrect "Farangs can't have PP accounts anymore anyway (they squashed mine)" You should have been more explicit regarding the account, had mine over 20 years and never a problem.
  5. Been over both more times than I care to remember, best friend from school went to live in South Queensferry, a useful stop on the way north for a few years. Tongue in cheek comment that didn't require a lecture.
  6. You can check the status of the application on the website at any time.
  7. Both are valid addresses, the request for information would come from the latter and it would have to be sent to the former.
  8. A "Forth Road Bridge" job, by the time it is finished, needs doing again.
  9. Nothing unusual there. My younger brother was an expat in Canada and he did it to avoid any of the family having to travel to the funeral, died 2017. I am from Scotland and my mother made the arrangements back in the early 60s when still in her 30s, died 1976.
  10. If the accident happened on the offshore road, that was built on the same level as central Chonburi. The offshore sections come out from the city in each direction.
  11. It looked to me it was somewhere on that road but not sure where. It was built in 2 sections and the older runs from near the DLT to the city centre and that has barriers constructed from concrete, 3 bar. The newer section runs from the city centre to near the cancer hospital and the barriers are single bar steel. The accident photo shows the newer type of barrier and there is also a stretch of that at the DLT end. It also appears that they are installing central lighting so the accident may have happened in roadworks that look could be the old end.
  12. Apart from the covid aspect I think you have to apply for visa free transit if using Chinese mainland, HK is ok.
  13. Not any higher than normal. It is an offshore road rather than a bridge and not particularly new. Not clear if it is first or second phase, first been open for more than a decade and second opened I think about 5 years ago. Very straight and quite quiet at times so a real temptation for the speed merchants. Anyone heading to Chonburi DLT from Pattaya direction should use it, far quicker than easier than going through the city or using the bypass, far end comes out almost opposite the DLT.
  14. Not sure about Walking Street but there was a bar near Palmer's Bar that had that sign, or something similar. Can't remember the name but think it was hangout for golfers. The greatest disappearance in Pattaya was the fun aspect, and that I think came with the mobile phone.
  15. Generally speaking the service is good but not without problem. In Sept 21 I had to book 2 weeks quarantine which I did through the Agoda facility that had been set up. At the end of the month the government reduced it to one week but Agoda refused to refund the difference saying I was outside the standard cancellation period. My argument was that if Agoda signed up to the government scheme they were obliged to abide by the government regulations in place at the time. I initiated a chargeback, think about £900, which became quite protracted, but won the day in the end.
  16. That is incorrect. When your wife changed her name she would have been issued with name change document(s). You would need to get that translated and submit with the marriage certificate when applying for Non O based on marriage. My wife changed her name and I got a non O from London embassy this time last year without any problem. I didn't use the KR2 but it wouldn't do any harm to include it.
  17. Quite, expats have no say in the matter and have to live with the outcome. Political change lies in the hands of the people and every country in the world has a problem where there is a multitude of political parties. When the people fail to provide a party with an outright majority, horse trading will always determine the outcome. For those that want to see real political circus they should look to countries like the US and UK. Trump and Bojo, probably the biggest political clowns in modern times.
  18. Another office thing. I used the same one for many years and then a couple of years ago she handed back the KR2 and said pop down to the Amphur and get a new one. Sod's law, went to the local one at Bang Saen and told to come back in about 6 hours, drove the 20 minutes to Chonburi and got it in 10 minutes.
  19. There are a couple of points that you have not mentioned, firstly when you intend to return to Belgium and where from. If trying to travel on a single ticket a red flag will be raised immediately. The other point is which land crossing you intend to use. If it it is Nong Khai/Vientiane then you would probably get away with a train booking from Bangkok to Nong Khai and hotel booking in Laos with appropriate dates. I would also suggest getting an e-visa for Laos. Airlines have to be satisfied there is a credible intent to leave Thailand within 30 days. If you were thinking about one of the other border crossings credibility becomes difficult and the cheap air ticket may be the only option. You can book train tickets here, the tickets can be collected from the office or sent to your hotel prior to departure. https://12go.asia/en/travel/bangkok/nong-khai?date=2023-08-29&date2=
  20. Yes, quite different, only one item on the graphic refers to the OP, Thai-China railway. The article only says expected for public service in 2027, not that it would be fully complete. The section north of Bangkok would be to Vientiane, not just Nong Khai. The whole project is behind, originally scheduled for 2040, estimates are now nearer 2050.
  21. Just one part of an international project, completion due sometime in the 2040s. It is a pity they started at Bangkok end with the Lao section being open now for about 18 months. In Jan I came down from Luang Prabang to Vientiane in 2 hours but they can't come across the river until the new station at Nong Khai is built. The 6,617.5km-long, meter-gauge railway network is being developed with an estimated investment of $15bn, under the ASEAN-Mekong Basin Development Cooperation (AMBDC) which was formed to encourage economic integration among the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. https://www.railway-technology.com/projects/singapore-kunming-rail-link-skrl/
  22. I wasn't aware that humans lived in drainage systems but there is always something new to learn. Curtailing the movement of humans would be more effective than all the insecticide you can lay your hands on. I have lived in a mosquito infested area for the past 14 years without a problem but I go to a hotel in Pattaya and get Dengue. You have to recognise the real problem to deal with it, the scattergun approach solves very little.
  23. Yes, bananas would certainly be the cheapest and need very little looking after, can just be left. As you say would be very unsightly.
  24. It would appear you have been missing the upgade offer email that comes out of Emirates with monotonous regularity. I suspect everyone on the database is "selected".
  25. Take it getting the context from a post is not your strong point.
