  1. My Thai wife and I have bought a few. Ensure you get a good transfer company - UK banks tend to be high, Not transferred large amounts via Wise, but I know they're highly recommended on this site. Used them for smaller amounts(£1000s) Done the same in Spain when buying/selling property - used Torfx or currency converter. That way you get to speak to a representative and control the transfers. Best to send in smaller chunks based on company costs over time. Re bank accounts, I had one, but I split it between a couple of my wife's accounts over time. The funny thing about the Land Registry is you see lots of people walking around with very large brown envelopes/bags. If I was ever desperate and needed cash it would be my number 1 place to hang-out. Good luck They'll be may along to say just give to your gf and kiss goodbye to it ????
  2. Boris already beat them to it - Nothing to do with Brexit, Nothing to do with Covid and the massive misspending, illegal payments to the boys for PPE and rampant fraud through pathetic governance ahhh... ( let me think ) A war, that's always a good get out of jail card....
  3. Mmm - so you're responsible for all her debts she accrued prior to marriage - however - everything she owned prior to marriage is hers only. Is that true ????
  4. Idio* Can you post that link to the extensive survey that was carried out in Thailand. Russians work too - I've worked with many around the world, including banks in Thailand. None were carrying rifles and wanting to invade other countries. It's like saying the same of Americans.
  5. Don't understand that response at all re for a specific person.. It is for a specific country - it states for a UK license you need an IDP. IDP - is INTERNATIONAL, clue is in the name https://www.gov.uk/driving-abroad/international-driving-permit
  6. I've seen this basic thread before, with many say yes or no. For the sake of a few quid I'd get one. According to the Post Office you do need an IDP to drive in Thailand "To drive in Thailand you will need an International Driving Permit 1949" https://www.postoffice.co.uk/identity/international-driving-permit#IDP-Checker
  7. My wife flew with Emirates via Dubai at the end of Feb' 2022. I don't believe we needed anything re API. We added an additional contact number - my tel' number. When we got to Heathrow she just needed her Thai Pass documentation, usual print-out of booking confirmation, passport ( check-in staff obv' reviewed all ). I've just changed the return flight today and no additional info' was requested. Regards Note: My wife is Thai, but I don't think that changes anything.
  8. If you ever went to Koh Samed, there was a guy there with an Old English Sheepdog(Dulux ) dog. Used to hang around Jep's, Samed Villa. Used to see it all the time and it always seemed full of fun. Year after year.
  9. Looking for a bit of advice. We're planning on selling a Condo in Bangkok. We live part-time between London and Bangkok - Thai wife, English husband. My wife believes we need to get a consent form from me re the sale. The condo is in her name, but we're married, but we weren't when we bought the Condo over 7 years ago. We have no mortgage on the condo, all fully paid-up. Anyone had to do the same and what was required re any form of consent. Thanks in advance.
  10. I've stayed here in the past - good hotel, excellent beach. I wouldn't say it was ultra luxurious, but a good quality hotel. Banyan Tree is also very good as per another reader, more expensive than the Hilton ( or at least it was when I stayed there ). You have loads of options - pick the environment and beach. All depends if you want to be hotel based or get out and about.
  11. That sports bar a few shops away is handy and has English papers ! Pool in the back, but didn't use it. Just sat and had a couple of beers and read the papers ( you're not allowed to go in with your other half )
  12. Obv' I was talking about immigration/passport control. Apologies for any confusion.
  13. FYI, a Thai wife can go through the UK Customs queue with you if you didn't know. I understand obv' a gf won't be able to do that, but maybe of use to someone. Many years ago my wife queued in the non-EU queue and I stood waiting for her - the immigration officer came up to me and said she can go through the EU line with you. Done it every time since.
  14. My wife went back at the start of this month. This madness is the reason I didn't accompany her.
  15. Can you renew an expired 2 year Thai driving license online(didn't realise this was classified as a temporary license) without going to the office again? I had one pre Covid. It would be handy if I got one before I got back.
  16. You're ScotlandtheBrave and you've had 3 shots in around 6 months - and now you're looking for more - that movie Braveheart has just gone in the bin - back to Gladiator ???? My wife has had 3 incl boosters in England and has been offered another when she's just got back to Bangkok. She's not taking it. I think maybe too much under the current virus threat. I'd personally lay-off unless I had a medical reason ( or very old - I recommended my 84 y old Mum get it when she can ) - but each to their own.
  17. I've been reading this forum for over a decade & if I found I could renew my passport online directly that is the process I would have followed too. Giving it to an agent to renew my British passport wouldn't have crossed my mind - or what I would have wanted. I may have asked the question as I've never had to do it in Thailand. Done it in Zurich, whilst working. Bottom line, I'd have done the same as this guy and may have got into the same situation, but then questioned why I need to involve an agent. I'd have spoken to the embassy, who should have supplied relevant process. I also know the VFS building very well as I've been many times & live close by.
  18. Never heard the term - "Dogs of War", so must have happened ????
  19. OP, as you're in the UK, I assume you have an NHS lateral flow test kit at home? Why not take one of those for the next few days. Will save on the cost of a PCR test before departure ( which you don't actually require after the 1st)
  20. Funny because many Swiss I knew when I worked there went to Brazil for it. I think in Brazil it's actually expected.
  21. From the AA website: What you need to renew your licence online A valid UK passport. To be a resident of Great Britain – there’s a different service in Northern Ireland. Address history for the past 3 years. Your current driving licence – if you don’t have it you must say why in your application. Your National Insurance number – if you know it. The DVLA will use your current passport photo for your new licence if you have a digital passport. If you don’t want the DVLA to use this photo or they can’t use it, you’ll need to send a photo in the post. - To the other poster discussing how long it was taking - I renewed mine last year whilst in the UK and got it back in just over ONE week ( Note: This was my experience as I'd renewed my UK passport a year or two earlier and they had my details on file ) Regards
