  1. If you want to trace the root of many enduring problems, the 1950s statutes are likely where the cosy legislation was set up to protect the entire too bent to fail systems that should have been scrapped in the early 70s at the latest.

Instead tanks r us want to double down on 'tradition' while supposedly reinventing the place.

  2. I hope that at some point, Thailand wakes up, and realizes that the way Loy Krathong and Songkran are celebrated is no longer environmentally sustainable. I also hope that farangs come to the realization that they should observe, but not contribute to such damaging activities.

come on, the krathongs are all made of biodegadable natural material ! The use of styrofoam has long been banned !

The amount of other trash like plastic bags, candy wraps and drinking cups, is not more or less present on every other weekend, when thais swarm the beaches for a holiday.

They love to litter the beaches and the beachwalk with trash. It should be publicly declared by the government as being a "part of our local culture", as it is so obvious.

Maybe putting up more rubbish bins will help, or am I dreaming the impossible?

Clearly, it's been a while since you were back home. Unless that happens to be Singapore, having a go at littering Thais is a case of pots and kettles.
  3. As I understand it, carrying a knife is illegal in Thailand. Thai police have been known to confiscate even such as Swiss army knives, and fine the person(s) carrying such.

They could stop quite a large % of male drivers and find a weapon of some sort, mostly machetes.

Back in the UK, I always carried a claw hammer in my car for protection, but never once had to use it.

Was only ever attacked once, guy in front of me braked sharply and turned right without using his indicator.

I pumped my horn at him then just drove on, then I noticed him chasing me in my rear view mirror, I stopped, he opened my door and tried

to pull me out, I jammed his hand hard on the door, left him screaming, then just drove away.

Good on ya for quick thinking. You do realise that a claw hammer in the car passenger compartment in the uk or anything similar. Is a bang to rights nick, and a criminal record for life, a simple traffic stop or a search of your car after a moderate to serious accident, could get you done, all for What? As you said, you never had to use it, and it's likely to have been in anger not defence, if you had. As most Road rage cases prove, including the above. But having said all that, again, well done on the hand crushing, I'd like to think I'd do the same in your place.
  4. I'm glad to see these vile human excuses come very undone. No doubt their equally nasty extended family will be all over their homes and carry away property even as we speak. When they finally get out (except that old bitch whose used up her credits) they'll be dirt poor ex cons whose best hope is to steal some moonshine, then immediately find a high bridge over deep water. Au revoir mes Enfants!

  5. I love the way the PM always counsels people to not 'play into the hands' of 'troublemakers' etc. hey boss, thanks for the heads up, we'll keep it in mind.

It's as well so many many people in this world just want to sit back, and have their thinking done for them, hey its cheap, freedom is a buck oh five.

  6. The low-level, self-appointed "model" who works at the info desk in a Chiang Mai mall and has 4,000+ "followers" actually yells and swears and insults people on her Facebook page about plastic surgery and other asinine airhead things. She even admits, stupidly, that she's in love with herself, but the Thais and some star-struck naive Malaysian Chinese young men keep telling her how beautiful and "powerful" she is. Yuck. I used to think Thailand and Chiang Mai particularly was a good place to retire...but add this female mentality to the mix of other problems, not to mention the female scammers and thieves...I think I'm staying in civilization.

Why are you posting some random woman's Facebook profile..? What's this got to do with a stranger using an actress' name to scam a gullible mark?

Because she's another example of the shallow model and actress only with a smaller fan base.
But why do you even care about some hapless nobody bimbette on FB? You need a more worthwhile pursuit. Like alcoholism.
  7. "For the remaining five years, Thailand will seriously and strictly enforce the laws to achieve the 80% target as now that the road fatality issue was placed as a national agenda and law enforcement will be tightened."

Good luck with that major crackdown and a hub of something....

And there is a long way to go

But i have seen some improvement.......

Speaking to one of my neighbors, they have installed cameras at the junction red light on our highway. jump the red light and picture gets taken and fine sent to your address. 1000 Baht......

The neighbor really pissed off since he in one month now got 3 fines of 1000 each clap2.gif most likely more to come too cheesy.gif

But he was most upset that the local police that he have a lot of "pull" with could not interfere or delete fines in this system as it is centralized

    great work...

made my day, this did. they are truly in a magic mirror world some of these clowns, where the law is so warped they would not recognize due process if it was up them sideways in a Police cruiser. Another part of the problem, attitude. This clown needs a severe red light T bone collision to put him out of harms way, and into a wheelchair. since a wheelchair sounds about the limit of his driving ability.
  8. "Lower by 80%?" Perhaps they need to begin by a smaller number or even better stop the year on year increase. How to do this? By enforcement!!!!

It would help if they actually learned to drive more than 24 hours before getting a license and then actually learned the rules of the road!

What there are Rules? I thought those old ladies selling lottery tickets were also driving licence outlets, lottery, vs driving in los, same same. No?
  9. Thailand aims to lower road fatality rates by 80%"

    Absolutely impossible!

I don't think it is impossible, all it requires is the present laws to be enforced all the time.

Punishments given like confiscating vehicles of drunk and reckless drivers for first time offences.

Severe punishments for unlicensed, and uninsured drivers.

Would it be so hard to do that?

They'd likely get more luck putting the first Thai apollo team on the moon, no, make that Mars. Before you tackle the roads, you need a functional Road traffic authority trained to address the problem, which they don't, and won't have, not in 5 years, few countries but the most disciplined, such as Korea or Japan, to compare apples with apples, could achieve this.
