  1. I know that this is written very well almost like it is from someone who knows what they are talking about but why would they need to lease off the govenment. When the airport was built there was no shortage of cheap land for sale and it is on a flat strip of land which i doubt is government protected. Not that i am saying you are wrong i am just questioning your information.

Also i have never heard of anyone leasing land off the govenment. the government would make more money out of nuilding their own air port.

It does not make sense but there agaian maybe it is not supposed to

Big C, that's the whole point of why BKK Air is at this day where they are. They were the only that believed in an airport on Samui, and they reap the benefits today. The govnmt wasn't interested back in those days.

Dr. P bought the land from private people back in those days. That is a fact. What he has done now, I am not really sure, may be put it in the fund...can be.....

  2. The land comprising Samui Airport is leased for a period of 30 years from 2006 leaving a period of 24 years still to run. The lease expires on 23rd November 2036.

The initial lease was for a 3 year period with options to renew for a further 9 periods of 3 years each.

Bangkok Airways sub leases the land from a property investment company in which BA own 25% of the shares.

Sorry, that may be true for a certain part of the airport, but NOT for the whole property as some land was sold to Dr. P by a well respected family from Samui long time before we were here. That is a fact.

  3. Not sure how the 9gems got mixed in with the 5 star hotels mentioned in the article. Isn't the 9gems on a hill above Bandon Hospital/Makro?

Propably just because of the pricing strategy. It is surely not 5 star and I would have expected that the Four Seasons would also have a review. I have been to all of them (not stayed) and in general agree with the overall reviews.

  4. depends on

    1) what you want them to do

    2) how much you have to pay them to do what you want them to do

It usually takes some time for them to arrive (all depending on what time it is), but otherwise never had a problem (called them about 3-4 times last year) and never paid a dime!

  5. Why you say Bangrak is like a ghost town ? Bangrak is very nera the airport while NE is quite far. Traditionally, the closer to the airport, the more people they will be. Or are you saying Bangrak is so run-down that the wealthier people want to stay out?

bang rak is transient by nature. people come here to go elsewhere. bang rak is then a pretty good indicator of the general state of things on the island as a whole. it isn't so much that bang rak is run down, it is what it is.

Bangrak hasn't got many large hotels, only a few good restaurants, and a lot of small bars/business/pharmacies/7/11/family mart etc.....not really a place where tourists would stay for a longer period of time.

  6. I arrived in Chumpon yesterday late in the evening to discover the fares to KT, KP and KS have rocketed!

    Chumpon to KT 600 baht.

Chumpon to KP 1,000 baht. <deleted>!!!!!!!!

Chumpon to KS 1,100 baht. as above!

This was my last trip using them, I think it is disgusting that they are more than doubling their fares without considering those who live on the islands. I am aware there is a resident's discount card, but unless the discount is more than 50% their pricing is ludicrous!

Oh yes, my apologies to the owner of the guesthouse who quoted me this price at 1:00am - in my defence I had been in transit from PP for 25 hours. Sorry for my reaction. :-)

And to Lomprayah - my purchase of a ticket to KT (and illegal onward travel) was the only protest I could muster. Screw you anyway, I will never use your services again. Greedy pigs.

All correct, and from BKK to Koh Samui 1,350 Baht, making the Chumporn to BKK route only Baht 250.....

  7. There is a very good 24 hour restaurant in Nathon just before the Kasikorn bank on the right hand side before the end of the one way system. Very good cheap Thai food. Other than that you need to be heading to Chawang or Lamai and run the gauntlet of ladyboys wink.gif

Ninja Crepe opposite Buri Rasa Hotel, open 24 hours, just renovated, but looks the same as 10 years ago :whistling:

  8. There is one on the Ghost Road on the right hand side coming from Bangrak - forget the name sorry. There is also Smile House in Fishermans - on the left at the end of the shops. And then there is Sala Samui in Choengmon. Pretty sure all charge - but not a huge amount.

Blessing Village, very nice clean pool andnon-residents welcome. (There is a charge).

Phatong Residence, Bangrak, 25 meter pool, 100 Baht a day what I paid a year ago.....now I have my own

  9. I just tried booking return to london, and i was quoted 78000 for two on the special deal, thats not 2 for1

Spot on Sweeny, but that's blxxdy good for TG. B) In March we were quoted 99,000 baht for one to LHR. (Flying in July though.) :o

Guess what - her indoors did not fly TG. There are better offers out there. Do TG ever do any REAL deals?

Back in mid 2003 they ran a special for at least 6 months.

Buy 1 business class ticket get 1 free for the same flight.

I was mobilising to a job in Dubai in the June and it was cheaper than 2 economy class tickets on any airline on that route, including TG economy. I was able to take advantage of the same deal at New Year too.
