  1. ya i take people to the "5" star on that beach all of the time. or at least i used to until the number of complaints about that resort caused me to divert them to the better facility on TNPY. now that the resort on TNPN has been taken over by the same group that owns 3 or 4 different 5 star hotels on samui maybe i can take them back to TNPN again.

i wouldn't go there for peace and quiet. it's becoming the place to be for group beach parties.

THAT group owns 1 resort on Samui and manages another....and what would 'the better' facility on TNPY be?

the group i'm referring to owns one property between bang por and bang makham, another in bophut and another of a very similar name in chaweng, in addition to managing the property in TNPN. the better facility i was referring to is managed by a company that manages nearly a dozen hotels and resorts on samui and pha ngan and i referred to it as "better" specifically due to their ability to effectively manage larger, affluent groups with reasonably high expectations.

i'm quite certain that the TNPN facility will improve their mgmt and service staff now that they've been taken over. at least i hope so since it's nice to have two properties to offer over there.

I am not aware of the one in Bang Por, the one in Chaweng is NOT owned and yes, I hope with 'A' managing now in TNPN, the 'C' company will have real competition.

'A' resort was never meant for large groups anyway as far as I know.

Interesting reading, we always used to say go to Yai for quiet and Noi for the nightlife because it had the Hideaway, Jungle bar and Pong's place down the end. My mates still have their bar in the middle of the beach , bar Flip Flop and I know they are still there. Might go down just for old time's sake to have a look. Used to only be the Panviman as far as resorts went and I think the last time I was there in 05 and they were building Panviman 2. If it is that pricey probably only stay a few days , or and ( I know this sounds strange ) stay around Tong Sala somewhere, got wife and two kids now so it might be good to be be close to facilities. Can always get about on a bike in the daytime to go to the beach. Is Amsterdam Bar still there up on the hill outside Thong Sala ? great views from there and pretty cheap and good rooms too.

I believe Bert has moved Flip Flop over to Yai now. ;)

Really, so what happened there ? Does he still run it with Roman or have they gone separate ways or are there two Flip Flops ? Do you know Why ? A lot of questions I know but going to see Bert would be the first thing I would do on arrival. I love that big Dutch bastard !!

    General Norieaga says " have a Jaeger " ( meister )

Both are on TNPY now, the old places has been flattened and nothing has happened yet. Belongs to a big shot in BKK...., they closed in April last year if I remember correctly.....(BTW still serving the Jaegermeister)

  4. I have the blue house book -- the house is in my name. Is this acceptable?

If your name is in the house book yes.

I will not be able to be at Samui on the date of my license expire.......can I go earlier or how many days/weeks after without having to take the test again ??

DO NOT go later than 4 weeks after it expires, rather go a week earlier.

  5. Renewed my 5 year last week. (car only). It was expired around 10 days already.

Arrived early (before 9am preferable). Produce copy of work permit (counter signed) and copy of passport with valid visa (also counter signed). Did not need immigration letter or doc cert or pic.

9.30am move upstairs to second floor. Thais first.

For extensions like mine you need to do the color test (say the color of the dots the girl points out), the reaction test,(off the power on the brake within less than 1/2 sec.) a horizontal depth perception test (move the left stick per remote control that it alligns with the stationary right stick) and last was something I never had to do and its hard to explain. Put your chin on a metal frame and look at a yellow dot, then the girl presses a series of lights (red and green) which are left and right just within your frame of vision. Just repeat what colours she pressed.

Then go downstairs, pay 655 Baht.(You get a proper receipt) Sit down, get up again and have your pic taken by a high tec computer and a not so hi tec lady. Sit down. Get up again and receive your driving licence card (same like credit card, with magnetic strip and all info in Thai and in English. Valid for 6 years). Pay 10 Baht if you require a plastic pouch. Leave building 10.15am.

  6. Just to put in a point as i am starting to get a bit of grilling for posting negitive all the time. The Samui channel before was ok. When they just had the Thai woman ( katrae ? ) doing the shows. She was pretty good at presenting. Its just gone way way down hill since they let these 3 try do what ever it is they are trying to do.

    Its painful watching. :o

Samui Channel was never really taking off, it was okay, yes, but that's about it....These 3 German yahoos won't be able to change this......and Mr. Horse (Horscht) is the biggest yahoo of all of them....

  7. there's a decent stainless worksop on the ring road, Chaweng.

Opposite side to the caltex garage & up a little (north). Not far from the bank of ayudhya.

There's another one opposte the family mart on the corner of the old monkey theatre soi.

    Thank you, much appreciated.

  8. Yeah, the water was deep. I had to wade my way out.

However, there is really just a small area in front and around the market because it's especially lowland at these places. It's the water from the nearby lakes which overflows into the area in front and around the seafood market.

If you go towards the Chinese temple, it's dry because of the higher grounds.

Also from the seafood market heading towards the ring road, the flood starts only just a bit from Ruang Thong pharmacy. It's mostly dry all the way to the ring road.

So there is still black-out in the area. Hmm.. good thing there were a bit electricity in the evening because I got stuff in my freezer and is worried of spoilage.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I need to go out foraging today. Anyone know if the roads from Plai Lam to Tesco via Bang Rak and Bhoput are passable and if Chaweng Tesco open?? Thanks

To be honest, I would not drive out today (unless you have a tank).....there is more rain and flooding to come!!!

  9. need up to date reports. if any things u see with your eyes then post them. storm due to hit in the next few hours. thats if u have an internert connection.

herd the waved are nearly 4 meters on the thai news and some people are stuck on koh Anthong

In Chaweng this morning waves approx. 3 meters......serious flooding at Iyara intersection, Banana Fan Sea area still okay, flights delayed and cancelled, Seatran not running today.

  10. So if I want to have a walk and have that real tropical beach experience with nothing but palms and trees on the back of the beach instead of a boulevard/hotels/bars/restaurants, which part of which beach preferably near Bo Phut/Chaweng would have the longest strip of sand where you won't have to see human structures when you take your eyes of the water?

I presume there are cheap songthaews driving around the entire island like here so beaches further away would be interesting as well.

YOU ARE ASKING SO MANY QUESTIONS, THAT I KNOW WHEN YOU COME HERE, YOU WON,T LIKE IT.

SO I THINK ITS BEST YOU DON,T COME, AND GO TO HUA HIN INSTEAD.

AND BORE THAT THREAD WITH ALL YOUR SILLY QUESTIONS,

THAT YOU DO NOT READ THE THREADS PEOPLE HAVE TOOK THE TIME TO ANSWER FOR YOU

AND I THINK THIS IS A WIND UP ANYWAY.

Thats what i think too. Total wind up. ;)
