Inflation Hits 1.32% in January, Fueled by Energy and Food Costs
atpeace replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This is news? Inflation is low and expected to remain low. 1.32% vs almost 3% in the USA for example. Funny article... -
So when EV trucks get over 1000kms between charges? Probably will be a reality in the next 5-10 years. As for me, I would be happy with a 400 km real world range. The Rivian R1T and that weird Tesla truck already have larger payloads than any of the ICE trucks I see on the road here. They get around 600 km per charge. They cost a fortune but just saying 🙂

I'll make a lid when finished using eva gym matts. I have enough battery excess to run the overflow at night if needed. My only concern is the well drying up but the pump is currently 15 meters below the water line. First year using a well so have no idea how much the water drops during the hot dry months that are coming. Sturdy ladder to get out? I was planning on just pulling myself out which would be easy enough now and hopefully for at least a few more years. My wife is a few years older than me but extremely athletic and would be able do it easier than me 🙂 I'll check out the grout recommendation. Thanks for the advice!

The Thai workers doing the work just told me they have to go to another job for 4 days. Was hoping to finish tomorrow but no rush🙂

Thanks and I'll take pics when finished. The DIY filtration will be an interesting project and getting many ideas from YouTube. Were you emptying your pool often? I could do every other day which should eliminate most the filth. During the hot months I am already pumping from the well more than this quantity of water into the pond every day so I would use the tiny pool as the storage tank that could be dumped into the pond as needed.
-
Chorine is always an option and I tend to think you are correct if I emptied every 3-5 days. Maybe emptying ever other day would work. I could drain at night and set the pump timer to fill it up after. My ice bath stays clean for at least a week (gone 3 weeks 🙂 ) and it is only circulating when I'm in it and while the pump from the cooler is dumping water into it. It stays covered and around 17c except for the 10 minutes I drop it to around 9c. Not apples to apples but interesting... I could clean the inside glossy tiles (30cmx30cm) with bleach once a week when empty. Hoping this would eliminate the algae buildup and would take me less than 5 minutes.

I decided yesterday to build a tiny pool to cool off in after my HOT runs outside. I have a well and solar so water and energy cost aren't an issue. It will be 120 cm deep and basically a 180 cm x180 cm box in a shaded area adjacent to the patio. . It will have a small water fall and a 160 watt aerator running at most times hoping that will keep the water from stagnating and will probably lower the temp a couple degrees. I am constantly topping off our 15mx15m fish pond so plan on just dumping the pool water every few days into the pond and refilling with clean water. The pool/bathtub will be completely tiled(porcelain glazed ) with a slippery surface that won't attract as much bacteria as non-slip tiles. Hard to slip in a tiny pool if it water covers most of the body so safety isn't a concern. I plan on buying this 160w aerator and just feeding the oxygen lines into the pool. I will also build a DIY filter (basically pumping water through aquarium filters and gravel) that will be placed behind the tiny waterfall. I t will be finished tomorrow is my guess, minus the waterfall and filtering system. Is this going to work??? Might end up being a nice fish pond 🙂

Do covid-19 mRNA vaccines cause Turbo-cancers?
atpeace replied to Red Phoenix's topic in Covid/Vaccine
I really don't care much at this point if the vaccines were a net positive or negative. I simply wanted to be allowed to have a semi normal life while in Thailand without being forced to get jabbed. I finally got vaccinated multiple times just so I could participate in events I enjoy. I get that many feared for their life but I wasn't concerned in the slightest. I'm extremely fit and wish I could have simply avoided situations that I deemed risky. Great that the herd of evil do gooders here on AseanNow can't cancel posters as they did 3 years ago. Follow the science - barf. -
You are correct IMO in that ICE cars are much better for trips over 200 kilometers ( probably 250to 280). I drive well over 250 kilometers about once a month and it can be frustrating at times the with the EV. Usually I just remind myself to calm down and why rush. I'm retired, have the luxury of time, and usually traveling solo. As one poster stated, It take 20 minutes to charge from 30-80% is far from accurate in my experience and you will be looking for another charger in a little over 100 kilometers after charging to 80%. Charger not working, chargers full, extremely slow charger, no electronic chargers on your route(detour time!) to name a few of the challenges. I enjoy my EV and it fits my lifestyle very well. By far the best car I've ever owned. Just took the Hilux on a 60 kilometer trip and simply don't like it anymore. Still debating if I need both. Can't wait till they come out with a Truck that cost around a million baht.

I bet you're going to love it. Bought my first 3 months ago and already want to upgrade. Bought a Neta because I wasn't convinced an EV would be better than my diesel truck. For my retired lifestyle EVs are perfect if you can charge at home. Even better if you have solar. Having a battery in my car that can power my home AC and lights during a power outage is also nice.

Thank God the burning has stopped......
atpeace replied to Will B Good's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
That is a blog post with just what they think causes pollution. Been in Thailand for 25 years now and there have been a few times the pollution was imported but 90% of it is caused very close to wherever you live. Still sitting at PM 2.5 of 2 at the moment but once the winds stop, it will be up over 100 within 12 hours. When is pollution its worse? When the wind isn't blowing, as in Bangkok the last few weeks, and it can accumulate which has nothing to do with pollution from other countries. -

It can make a huge impact. I live on the Laos borders and it does blow over but 90% is local where I'm at. 150++ PM 2.5 yesterday and the winds picked up heading from Laos to Thailand. The PM 2.5 for the last 24 hours has been below 10 and currently 1. It is Thailand plain and simple and yes a little crosses over borders. -
Looks like the HEPA filter I just put in my AC. 1 hour later and the PM 2.5 dropped only 18 points in that hour compared to outside the room. I taped to the curved filters that are inserted into the AC. Maybe tape to the top of the AC where the air comes in? Or it might just take longer than my stand alone air purifier.
-
I have a HEPA filter and could duck tape it to the air intake on the top of the AC. Bet it would drop the PM 2.5 from around 80 to less than 30 in an hour. Any body want to take that bet? had a few drinks tonight so will not be climbing a ladder but tomorrow I will experiment.

Need a Thai person to negotiate a used-car purchase
atpeace replied to Ebumbu's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
It can be easy and it surely was for you. Most sellers don't know the process is what I found. Also, living far from major cities complicates visiting the bank and returning to pick up the book. In a couple instances the banks also required appointments which you can't make until you make the decision to buy. Also not all banks provide the book in your name. You are expected to go to the land office and do that. For me it never would have been a simple 30 minute process and most cases would have added days to the process of buying a car. -

Interesting. Finding the Thai expert would be hard. I'm sure there are but finding one you can trust? Do you live in Bangkok? What model and type of car? To answer your question about One2Car - they are fine but you can get a better understanding of price using FB market place as well. Many to most cars listed on FB are posted by dealerships. I bet you could find a solid 2022 Toyota Yaris for example that would fit your budget. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/112843885396090/search?minPrice=300000&maxPrice=350000&query=toyota yaris&exact=false If I were you, I would look online for a week and talk to dealerships only. I bet a viable option considering your lack of mobility will avail itself. I would help out if you lived near me but the odds of you living where I am are very slim. -

I have a truck I bought used and bought a used EV a few months ago. Just went to FB marketplace and one2Car. Not too difficult and repairs are cheap here in Thailand. Something goes wrong with the car and usually not too expensive to have it fixed. Last purchase a few months ago I arranged a few appointments after landing in Bangkok at 12pm. Bought the car I liked at 3PM with cash and was on the road to NE Thailand by 4:30 after completing the paperwork. Did it alone and found it much easier than bringing a Thai along where you will be left out of the communication and find yourself constantly asking what was just said. If buying from a Thai( not a dealership) it is complicated. I tried -555. All had loans on the car and the process became overly complicated to impossible.
