And this is why such dogs are banned in the UK and other civilised countries - when will Thailand follow suit with a similar ban - or does Buddhism come first?

It's been mentioned before, so not being pedantic, but officially it's an "Extension of Stay", and whether it's based on retirement or marriage to a Thai national, it's an extension renewable every year. However, I do agree with your suggestion - it's a pain having to go to Immigration every year to give them piles of photocopies of various documents - many of which are exact copies of the ones that you gave them the previous year(s).

I took out medical insurance many years ago, and had to go to a specialist dental hospital in Bangkok for treatment which eventually ended in a root filling and crown. The insurance company paid for it, but a few years later, I had the same problem with another tooth, and they said they wouldn't pay for it as I had "made a similar claim before". So you're only covered for toothache once in your lifetime?
