I saw a post on here a few weeks/months back where a "well respected" man in the medical profession was saying that families shouldn't talk at meal times! Also, a little bit later it was announced that live music would be allowed in restaurants - up to a maximum of 5 musicians and they all had to wear masks except the singer! I guess the Beach Boys or the Eagles would have a hard time getting their harmonies across!!!

Everybody should surely know by now that the reason why Nana and similar places of entertainment are deserted is as explained in the article - all the bars are closed because they can not sell alcohol - end of story, and with no end in sight to the alcohol ban from this Government, it is anybody's guess as to what will happen to Nana and similar "entertainment" centres in Pattaya etc. This is why, as other posters have put it, Covid has come as a gilt edged opportunity for the teetotal PM to force his curriculum on the public. By banning protests, large gatherings etc under the guise of a danger to health because of Covid, he has effectively negated the need for any kind of intervention by the Army, and to the outside world all must seem well in "Even More Amazing Thailand". It's not a laughing matter, really, but it is pretty amusing reading all the usual poo from TAT about how many millions of tourists are going to be coming to Thailand once it's opened up to tourists (I thought it was,by the way!) while the PM seems to be doing his darnedest to stop them from coming by enforcing an alcohol ban in the very places that tourists are likely to want to go!

Most people in the UK have been vaccinated, so if they catch Covid very few of them are seriously ill, whereas Thailand is still playing "catchup" with its Government's vaccination programme, and ill or not, you are whisked off to hospital - possibly taking up beds that are needed by people who are seriously ill - and not necessarily just Covid. And answer me this - what is the logic behind being required to wear a "muzzle" while riding a motor bike ?

Bars should be allowed to reopen, opposition MP argues

And can someone please tell me how wearing a mask on a motor bike stops the spread of Covid? -
Thailand takes tentative first steps into new era of post-pandemic tourism

"Thailand’s main tourist attractions remain half empty" Obviously not a statement from TAT! That would have read:- "Thailand’s main tourist attractions remain half full" -

Both of which are as far as I know, extremely rare in comparison to Covid! -
THE WEEK THAT WAS Getting back to normal - not the New Normal just NORMAL!

"I’ve seen this training while getting a licence. It involves sleeping while a carnage-cum-nasty video plays on an old TV." As someone said the other day :- "My wife has just passed her driving test - now she needs to learn how to drive!" The theory part of the test is above adequate , but the driving test itself is a farce - conducted in a small area about the size of a football field - no driving on the open road. (That would probably put the examiners at risk!) Apparently even driving lessons (where I live) are conducted on the back roads, and none at all on the main roads! And why not have red "L Plates" to signify "Learner Driver"? They could even have different colour plates or "N Plates" to signify "Novice Driver" for those who have just passed their driving "Test". As it stands now, it is little wonder that Thailand's roads are amongst the worst in the world for accidents. -
Thailand’s nightlife venues to reopen on Jan 16, subject to assessment

From the above article:- "In addition, by 1st December, Thailand will also consider allowing the consumption of alcoholic beverages in restaurants as well as the operation of pub, bars and other entertainment venues." You obviously didn't read the important "consider" word! They've considered and approved alcohol in restaurants, but considered and not approved alcohol in pubs, bars and other entertainment venues -

The obsession continues because a large % of Thailand's GDP depends on tourism, and tourism depends on booze and bars despite what teetotallers would have you believe! -
Old news - this was reported a couple of weeks ago about the same time that Chiang Mai reported that the hotels had ZERO booking from foreign tourists. I think that the main problem facing Thailand is that the rules and regulations regarding entry seem to change every day, so no one is going to book a holiday so as long as this chopping and changing (flip flopping) continues, no one is going to risk losing their holiday or having it ruined by overnight changes of plans by the government of the country they are due to visit. Another problem is that many countries have returned to near normal in spite of having large numbers of Covid cases daily (e.g. the UK) They have learned to "live with it", and keeping the bars and places of entertainment closed is another reason for holidaymakers not to come to a country whose reputation as a fun place to visit is no longer appllicable.

20,000 tourists enter Thailand since Nov 1 - most from USA
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
From 12 hours ago :- "Since November 1st, when Thailand reopened the country to foreign arrivals, 16,595 have entered Thailand......................." This post:- "On Sunday, the Department of Disease Control (DDC) said that a total of 20,092 tourists had entered the country since November 1,................" I'm just waiting for TAT to announce their figures - any bets on 30,000 +? -

Thailand expects one million foreign visitors between November and March
sambum replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Hope some of them are "directed" to go to Chang Mai! Yesterday's "Top Story" :- "Chiang Mai has ZERO bookings from foreign tourists The chief of Thailand's northern hoteliers' association was forced to admit on Sunday that there were no foreign bookings at their hotels."
