For the first time in 5+ years living here, I have experienced outright discrimination and bigotry twice this week from Thais in Hua Hin. At a dermatologist a Thai woman glared and got up and moved to the other side of the room with her child when we sat down. Then, a really messy ladyboy (ridden hard and put away wet) grabbed a mask (laying on a table) and hurriedly put it on (Rolling her eyes) as we passed outside the supermarket (as if we posed a health threat to her).
Having never been made to feel unwelcome before, Hua Hin is becoming unhinged.
We are are not young unkept drifters , we are an elderly, well groomed and dressed retired couple of means.
It doesn’t bode well for when the situation begins to pull at the threads of Thailand’s infrastructure and capacity. -
Likely mistook it for lube

Approximately, how much evidence do the police need to investigate and press charges?

The Thai Minister of Health doesn't have any concept of the concept of unknown unknowns. The department seemingly bumbles from one catastrophe to another. One can reasonably question the effectiveness and qualifications of leadership.

“In the last 10 years, 36 parties have been dissolved in Thailand, including Thai Rak Thai Party in 2007 and Thai Raksa Chart Party in 2019”
That is a shockingly large number of dissolutions, I was unaware of this. I thought, this was the kind of thing that only happens in authoritarian regimes like Cambodia?

Every Time I hear his man speak, some form of xenophobic rant seems to spew.

The only certainty is that any responsibility for economic recession will be blamed on the Corona Virus and that the cascade of other failures causing it will be disregarded. Those who are truly responsible will not take responsibility nor will they be held accountable. It will all be forgotten after the next coup..., or the coup following that one, or....

Submarines! Submarines! We need more Chinese submarines... Oh and another hospital fundraising run by Toon Bodyslam

When you climb into bed with the Chinese Government, to be their concubine, you can't complain about catching fleas. Thailand's government has sought this "cozy" relationship with China, now the Thai people will realize who the government prioritizes over the citizens.
At least the officials can rest comfortable knowing they can leave under cover in their shiny new submarines.

The Thai government does not want Ractopamine in it's food supply, but paraquat and RoundUp and other proven carcinogens are just fine to feed Thai consumers? <deleted>?

Tat will use this as the reason the tourist Industry is down, ignoring all the losses prior to the virus’s arrival. It will be the catch-all excuse for every negative downturn.

Is it possible nothing will happen? Will it be added to the huge pile already swept under the rug?

As the Thai economy tanks these protests will ramp up.
My fear is, if that the economy tanks and protests ramp up, the government will bring out it's new American tanks

I do not love everything about Thailand ... but I think Thai Visa has become an "over the top" dark corner where xenophobic, racist, and unfair comparisons drive the site. I am trying harder to chill out and take responsibility ... no one puts a gun to my head and makes me read the replies ... but it is like driving past a car accident ... you sort of "have" to look.
By the way ... here is a new word for you: "Analogy"
I agree that Tv forums are overly filled with negative comments, and I usually avoid making them. I was not agreeing with the previous commenter, but pointing out your suggestion to leave is too simplistic and fails to address any problems at all. It is, as you complained earlier, “an unfair comparison”.
I know you were trying to make an analogy, but you failed. Comparing something as complex as a nation, a culture, and a government, to visiting a restaurant is simply a bad analogy. But the prefix of the term seems fitting in describing your personality.-

Your comparison of a Nation to a restaurant is illogical, but hey dude I get your point... Only say nice things about Thailand and pretend any shortcomings don't exist. That way the country won't have to develop or progress. Sabai sabai

Maybe it's because your going to moan about how much BETTER Thailand is when you get there.

If it's such a bad place why waste your time living here. Life is too short to have to put up with staying somewhere you hate, why not try the Philippines or Cambodia.
There are plenty of other places you can look at without waking up each day and having so much hate instilled in your day. Your adding of emoticons such as this one only solidifies this hatred.
Be happy each day .... not sad ... ????
I think Steven must be drinking the “happy” Koolaid.
