  1. I have been here 11 years and resided in virtually every area of Pattaya. I was impressed, primarily with developer ads re Jontiem and moved there 1

year ago. Jontiem is terrible - no cinema, no fast food places, ( none ! ),

no clinics/hospitals/Doctors, shabby, and far from Central Pattaya where

everything many people want is located & everything overpriced because it

is JONTIEM. Cost me a bundle to get in/out but it's worth it to finally be PAROLLED ! P. S. - and now they managed to screw up the beach as well !

What makes Jomtien unique...is that it is not Pattaya with all the noise and mayhem...

There is a doctor and clinic on Jomtien 2nd road just past the corner 7/11...

The 10 baht ride to Pattaya was always interesting...and one could actually walk to Pattaya as I did on more than one occasion...

View Talay 2B is behind View Talay 2A and is a little quieter has a nice pool and is convenient to most everything...should be able to get a nice condo in your price range...

    Enjoy!

DIstances for me are not an issue, having walked the Camino de Santiago (Frances) earlier this year I enjoy a good walk. If it takes an hour to walk to the cinema I look at that as two birds with one stone, exercise and entertainment.

Can always stop for refreshments on the way! thumbsup.gif

Seems as per my initial google searches, View Talay residences seem to be a popular choice.

Starting life here eyes wide shut is good, like to have a conclusion off you in say one year when the eyes finally open,it is hard going for sure, especially if you pick up baggage along the way

  2. I fully endorse this post about applying for a Retirement Extension, when 50 years old. The Jomtien Immigrationn office is frequently praised here on TVF, and I would recommend this as it seems you would have little difficulty with the financial requirements.

I have recently bought Health Insurance at the Age of 69, and I will PM you the details of a company I found competetive and very helpful.

I too would like to know of insurance cover for 69 year old, especially "being very helpful" at taking the money, just wonder how good they are at giving it out to a 69 year old, unless its AIA, take in 50,000 baht pay out 50 baht

  3. As for the Elite card, some will recommend and some will not, the over all sentiments

will be that it is a waist of money

I can always make more money. I can't make more time.

The Elite Card saves me from the various hassles of a longtime stay in Thailand, and the time wasted because of those hassles - especially as I'm under 50.

In fact, once I'm 50, I may just go ahead with the Elite Card so I don't have to dork around with all the red tape and hassle associated with a retirement visa.

It's so good just to be able to enter and exit Thailand as I like, without endless interrogations and reams of paperwork. I'm very rarely in Thailand for 90 days or more at a time; but when I am, I get a courier service to take my passport to the Thailand Elite office, they take care of the reporting for me, and the courier service brings it back once the reporting is tabulated.

If your finances permit, I'd recommend looking into it. If they don't permit, I'd question why you think it's a good idea to live in Thailand in the first place. Without some degree of insulation from the general hassle, there's no way I could take staying in Thailand for any extended period of time. It just isn't worth it, life's too short.

And I just don't understand why anyone would want to live in Pattaya, under any circumstances. If I were told I'd have to spend just a week there or never come back to Thailand again, I'd walk away from Thailand in a heartbeat.

Not just Pattaya .anywhere in Thailand generally. The clue must come in the never ending empty condos up for rent /sale,houses too. Thailand has changed considerably over the last few years, not worth the intention of upping stakes and moving here for keeps (in my opinion) but others may differ ,especially the ones who are stuck here with house/wife/family God help them

  4. "Bye pass, triple or whatever were cheap", as in good bye we'll not be seeing you again? Seems like good value. laugh.png

Now I know you have had a stent,an expensive one too ,surgery in Thailand no doubt, rip off of rip offs,,same surgeons operate both in India and UK usually 5 month turn-arounds, cheap means money saving in different environmentclap2.gif

    ill say,extremely good value

In truth, my non-medicated stent in 2007 at Bumrungrad under Dr Aram cost me a total of 174K Baht - it compared favorably to the 12.5K Pounds I was offered by Spire Group UK on a private basis. https://www.bumrungrad.com/doctors/Aram-Chusid

More than likely you have had/will be having problems in other coronary circulation, maybe the purse strings will manage a further dose in Thailand magnificent purse massaging surgeries,so for you ,you can exclude India

  6. I had heart surgery in Khon Kaen, and within 10 days @ home. 02-2015

triple bypass+1 .....fraction of the costs in Bangkok Hospital Udon......standard 15 days in patient.....million plus +

Mind you the facilities were first class, and so was my in patient treatment....follow up is que in line..........you need to take a day for a 10 minutes regular consult .

    Overall......Khon Kaen for sure.

Getting close to my heart too,got borderline reading recently on one chamber, but weight loss and more exercise for time being, but did look at couple of sites and that million seems expensive, more expensive valves came in about another $5000

Bye pass, triple or whatever were cheap[ too.. The heart valves can be repaired too looked at the blurb

Affordable Heart surgery packages in India.docx

  7. I know absolutely nothing about this, but have heard that many people go to India for surgical procedures. From what I hear, their prices compare very favourably to over here. Just a thought.

If he wants it done specifically in Thailand up to him, but Id type in Google "heart valve replacement in India" see how they compare

  8. East side of India (cheapest to get to) Chennai,or Calcutta, look for hospitals, the state ones are good,as I stated earlier look for a GP give him a few bucks for advice that you want good service without buying the hospital it will be in the region of one tenth at least of Thailand's prices.

Other side KLES or Visionmultispeciality, Goa just go ,can call using Skype, but better if you walk in Just Google clinics/hospitals in whatever city you want air Asia do some good deals in monsoon season there

Want that up the ass test too, bowel cancer, took 3 lumps out last time, doc said as I drifted off two for the price of one,did the two (down the throat) for around $50 both, hope it went down the throat first

I believe India to be cheaper than Thailand but "at least ten times cheaper" I think is a bit of a stretch.... smile.png

Get a quote or two,you already know the Indian quote, get one especially from the BH chain, could be one fifteenth

Are you comparing sure you are comparing like with like? Govt to govt, private th private etc

I've been to Thai govt hospitals that were ridiculously cheap as well as those that are ridiculously expensive and some in between..... Although sometimes flying to India wouldn't have been an option anyway in the case of emergencies

" near neighbour was going under the knife here in Pattaya for hernia at 200,000 baht, rang that hospital in Calcutta and quoted 60.000 baht, guess where he is going now probably cheaper at KLES,anyway give the surgeons a ring can call them direct on listed numbers."

    Should read 60,000 rupees,not baht... about £600 #31

Here are options, and Ive not included cheap govt.Thai hospitals.Cheap Thai hospitals to farangs generally where surgery was concerned would be "no can" Already dealt with incapacitation

Ive seen some of the prices banded around here for cataracts too here in Thailand the prices are in orbit compared to India, try Visionmultispeciality,Mapusa Goa

  9. loppylugs1 , since you seem to know a lot about India health services , can you give us a few websites that might have prices and top notch hospitals ?

and is there a city with cheap airfare from Thailand that is not as crazy at New Delhi or Mumbai ,

    thanks

  10. Heart ,hip,prostate...capital of the world as for all these procedures. Anyway apart from being two hours away I'd add this one,the seasoned medical tourist seems to admire, the Danish woman stated earlier ended up in this one to complete her recovery This is the favourite, another hour added to journey, but got one hell of a good reputation and £100 cheaper(£500) than the £600 quoted in Calcutta and £5000 cheaper than quoted in Thailand for prostate

KLES just on Goa border, about 3 hours from airport ,(they send limo to collect) but get those glasses another poster was complain g about at 30.000 baht, get them near there for less than two thousand baht (Danguish).. replacement knee plus prostate saving £11.000 having it done in India over Thailand

Near neighbour was going under the knife here in Pattaya for hernia at 200,000 baht, rang that hospital in Calcutta and quoted 60.000 baht, guess where he is going now probably cheaper at KLES,anyway give the surgeons a ring can call them direct on listed numbers.

Interesting note, few weeks ago I did inquire at the supposed no1 ranking for Thai hospitals in medical tourism, its a bluff, Thailand counts the hospital visits or enquirers as a statistic, not so India, the operation is counted as the statistic

About 4 or 5 different air routes for Goa,holiday season almost on them anyway ,best wait until March or so Im going in January, but I know my way around there slightly.

Radiance Imaging suite Donna Paula ,just outside Panjim Goa capital for MRIs ,independent or in house.Prescription medicine a slight fraction in price over Thailand too. Like Topsy the medical bills here keep rising,so do the insurance premiums

whilst there get Indian smart phone,a notch or two down from Apple but a quarter of the price, likewise shirts made to measure and get a shave from a roadside barber about 30 cents US nothing like it

Ill be writing to a few hospitals there to advertise their wares over in Thailand, even on this site even,a few flyers left in BHP left in reception might raise a few eyebrows too,get the medical mafia startled

  11. The cost of a State Pension top up is based on a person’s age and takes average life expectancy into account. For a 65-year-old, an extra £10 of pension a week will cost £8,900, whereas for a 75-year-old the contribution rate for the same amount of pension is £6,740.

you would have to live about 18 years past pension age just to get the 'investment' back. Ten quid a week for 8.900 does not sound like a bargain to me.

Nor me,after tax the break even figure is 89 years old.

anyway taken off you when the old nags home opens its doors to you

  12. this is a very interesting topic, i just wish there were more experienced posters here.

So what i am interested in - is actually not the THAI based insurance companies, because i wouldnt trust them for one and doubt they are cheaper here.

For those of us staying here long term, surely getting travel insurance back in our home country for say 6 month periods will actually be cheaper and more geared up towards getting us out of dodge should a serious problem occur, which we probably would not want to be in any Thai hospital should heart surgery or a stroke occur.

Secondly i would much appreciate knowing more about the credit card insurance options, as a backup. What good credit cards actually provide insurance?

Getting out of Dodge, there are ways round it.

Need to get stabilised after accident, govt.hospitals OK for that, then flight to (2 hours to accident and emergency dept) (Christian hosp.for one)Calcutta for broken bones etc, fraction of the price and far better than Thai hospitals.

Again heart or anything surgery wise India. comparing cost, friend received false knee, plus prostate surgery ,costing £11,000 less in better class hospital in India than Thailand.

Medivac, try Air India, buy 3 seats they will take you,as stretcher case,or fly business class

Some uk members will remember a few years the government of the day had an idea to send some not so urgent cases to India for treatment ,ie ,hips and knee replacements , there quality must be good if the uk health service thought about it .

I could sit at my computer and find a hospital in India that could ,say do a hip replacement ,a few e-mails ,may be a phone call ,and a week latter ,I could have made most of the arrangements .

But if I had just got hit by a buss ,lying in a Thai hospital ,with the cost adding up ,how would I find a hospital in India ?,may be a dumb question ,if you in a situation as our poor Irishman was ,can not speak Thai, how did/would you do it . very interested .

Will make a note about Indian hospitals .

    Thanks .

Not a dumb question 2 hours away are the finest and cheapest hospitals the world has to offer, not the thread to do it here, put the question in Heath topic section and Ill answer in more detail

  13. Ploughmans special, not just big,but huge, cheeses ham beef, just about everything in too , large amounts.

That guy running it sure wants some praise, the cod and parsley sauce ,boiled potatoes and peas the other week was a delight ,huge piece of fish All around 185 baht

  14. If his coverage had expired, well he should have been up to snuff on that. When I first started traveling to Thailand, I bought Travel insurance. It seemed reasonable. However, as I read the details, I never ever found a policy that direct paid the hospital. I would have to file claims for reimbursement. I am from the USA and I have complete medical insurance here Blue Cross Blue Shield. They won't direct pay hospitals outside of the network so I would have to file claims with them for reimbursement. So there didn't seem to be any point in getting overseas medical insurance when I travel on holiday to Thailand any more. But for all those backpackers, and retirees and expats that try to dodge the medical insurance premium costs, this is a good article.

Try #208 There is enough Obama medicare escapees there anyway

  15. American, but its the same newish e-Visa program for both the UK and USA.

Is there some reason you think the Brits would have an especially hard time getting the e-visa compared to all the other countries eligible?

Historically the UK gave Indian Nationals an incredibly hard time with visas and passports which might explain why the UK was added to the list after all other nations.

Historically more Indians went to the UK and got "lost" did not return,so UK tripled the visa fee likewise India did the same but found to its usual self it was cutting its own throat.

Think one month visa fee has come down with a bump too in last week or so. Go for a 12 month medical visa easy enough.

I'm off soon there to get medical check ups done
