  1. Konying, you keep mentioning handouts, is there a welfare system in Thailand that gives out such handouts?

If there isn't why would Thais expect to be given one?

Actually yes there is, you should know, after all you are an expertthumbsup.gif

Yes, hand outs, there is a good reason why Thaksin was and is so popular with them, or did you miss that decade in Thailand?

You know those populace policies, what did you think it was?

A wage hike without any returns is not a hand out?

How do you think wage rise will affect farmers who work for themselves? and what do you think is going to happen to small businesses when they forced to pay higher wages to same unskilled people who lack not only skills but desire to work and any productivity.

  2. Mr. Konying,

and bag of rice is not stealing?blink.png.pagespeed.ce.AQgCnSOpp_axVntua

Do you posses any common sense at all?

You should ask yourself if you do you posses a sort of common sense at all? My parents in law are rice farmers and they're not thieves.

Once the rice harvest is over, the majority pick chilies for others, if they don't have land to grow them. They earn 2- 3 baht for one kg.

Do you have an idea how long that takes to do that in the boiling sun?

Their life's really miserable. So the guy's really asking you a sincere question: "How much do you now about farming in Thailand?"

Were they or are they forced to be farmers?

What an insane question. They're both nearly 70 and just continued what their parents did.

Would you even have an idea about the quality of the schools in Isaan villages nowadays and consider how schools and life were more than 50

years ago, when they became farmers, then you wouldn't ask such a question.

Right , so once again its everyone else's fault.

SO seeing as their parents were poor they decided to follow the same path?

So when they were poor at 25 they did not think to do something else?

    How about at 40?

But its everyone else's fault for their choices in life,

    Speaking of insanerolleyes.gifthumbsup.gif

  3. Konying obviously knows nothing at all about farming in Thailand, doesn't know much about the common people, has no common sense at all, knows nothing about surviving on a pittance, and can't even answer a straightforward question, just tries the old diversionary tactic of answering a question with another one. He must be a politician!!!

    cheesy.gif

Or he is not a lazy ass who does nothing but waits around for hand outs blaming everyone else for his "lack of money"

As if farming concept in Thailand is different to any other country.rolleyes.gif

The only difference is, in other countries farmers work 365 days per year

Common people? who are they? the lazy ones spending their days looking for ways not to work? I have come across plenty, most likely know at least 100 times more than you, having owned a business for over 12 years and seeing hundreds come through.

I also know a number of common people who have been working in the same jobs for 17+ years and own houses, cars and raise kids.

I also know just as many who work without days off and doing OT on daily basis, doubling their salaries and not waiting for hand outs.

Now.... how many do you know on minimum wage to have been in the same job for over 1 year? and how many of those take up second job or do OT or work on days off?coffee1.gif

  4. Moral of the story:

I guess the moral of the story is, we more than often read on TV about bad things Thai people do and Thai bashing, but there are some great people, who do help others, including a sweaty, tired, foreigner without wanting money or anything else in return.

Thailand is full of wonderful people.

    But.

You had around about 150 Kg of dog and did not get them to pull the bike blink.pngblink.png

You do understand dogs are not horses or Bulls ?

    Of course I don't.

    attachicon.gifCamCart.jpg

But I do understand that if I had 150KG of dog. I would not be pushing a bike with said dogs in the sidecar. thumbsup.gifthumbsup.gif

So glad you are on the ballfacepalm.gif

So while in the park, in the middle of nowhere, i could construct one of this,With my lighter and teeth cut down a few trees, possibly make a rope and a harness, actually 6 harnesses, then make a hook out of ...... then saddle all in, train them up to pull in one direction at the same time.

Gee... i only wish i had your innovative brain or your number so you could suggest this to mefacepalm.gif

  6. Thailand is of course full or lovely, kind and wonderful people... This is normal for most of us here.

In fact, I find Thailand not much different from anywhere else, there is always someone ready to offer kind assistance where needed. Its great that for the most part people are inherently good.

Much like anywhere else Thailand also has its negative side; often discussed on this forum and much like anywhere else in the world.

The fact that specific attention has been drawn to these kind acts suggests they may not be the norm, thus creating an ironic and somewhat paradoxical thread... i.e. by outlining on this forum that there are great people here in Thailand also suggests some form of rarity in that its not a daily occurrence to meet great and lovely people (which of course is wrong).

Example: Great food - we are used it, but never feel the need to write about it unless its exceptional or terrible - Thus Great food is the norm in Thailand.

Anyway - Yes, I get the point of the Op: There are too many negative posts and he wishes to address the balance and offer positive examples.

    Yep you nailed it.

Whenever someone has a bad experience or been scammed or mistreated , they always make a post, but hardly ever people make posts about positive experiences.

Also to the contrary believe of many that shops like to rip off foreigners, in this case shop offered free service , after seeing what I look like having pushed 300kg for about 45 mins. ;)

Another important factor is that this happened in Pattaya and as you know Pattaya bashing has no limits. So despite all the hookers, thieves and scammers there are decent people in Pattaya

  7. I'd love to see the minimum wage /Thai bashers get by on 300!baht a day, whilst still paying for accommodation out of that too!!

You think it's cheap to rent accommodation in the cities where the "better" jobs are? After food and accommodation is deducted most of the Thai girls I know who are not bar girls on the minimum wage, are left with sometimes just 100 baht.

Sit in your ivory towers lads, unless you've ever tried living on such a low income, you're not really in a position to pass judgement, it makes you sound like snobs.

Utter nonsense . Most if not all people start on minimum wage. Ones with brain either get better skills and better jobs or stay in the same job getting yearly pay rise and bonuses . The lazy and useless ones change jobs every month and demand hand outs

Are you upside down, because the words seem to be coming from the wrong end. Nowhere near all people start on minimum wage. And they're certainly not kept on it. Why do people like you think the world is here to keep yanks in massive backsides.

Really ? So people after school or uni start on middle level management salary ?

Do try to think with head above shoulders , not the other one

  8. If i recall correctly last minimum wage was not enough, so it was hiked to 300, now its also not enough.

So once its hiked again, again it will not be enough.

Said it before and will say it again, stay in the same job for longer than 3 months, do little more than play on the phone and laze around, and you will not be getting minimum wage.

As for usual willyumii drivel, if those work conditions are not suitable, can always either go to labor department or change jobs.

Not to mention minimum wage workers also get free meal and out of 12 hours at work, will be lucky to actually work for half that.

Farmers get to steal take home lots of products and work for few month a year if that.

PS. May be if they stopped drinking 100 baht worth of thai whisky on nightly basis, they might have an extra 100 to spend on food

Just what are you accusing the farmers of stealing?

A bag of rice every few months when it is ready for harvest?

Some unprocessed tapioca that can not be eaten?

Or maybe a few stalks of unprocessed sugar cane?

These are the crops grown here and you can see they are not something anyone would want to "steal".

Do you know anything about farming in Thailand?

It must be nice to know so much and still not care about anyone but yourself.

P.S. a bottle of whiskey Thai is only 50 baht!cheesy.gif

and bag of rice is not stealing?blink.png

  9. Thanks for the tips. I know about the Yamaha Tricity but I need something even more stable for the wife, who has a bad leg. I will ask in the shops you have suggested but am worried that the bike does not handle well - especially in turns..
Some even say they're (the ones with the extended rear axle) downright dangerous to drive?

The 2 shops i mentioned, they specialize in this, so i do not think you will have any problems with handling or turns.

The cheaper ones may not be balances, but these 2 shops do everything right to make sure its 100%

As usual Konying is in the farang fog, with factual errors galore

Oh mighty one, do share your wealth of knowledge gained from extensive experience working in Thai with Thai.

Let me guess you fluent in Thai also and have lots of Thai friends? Married to a wonderful business lady, half your age from good wealthy familygiggle.gif

I shall tell my wife and her friends to get their fingers out, and graft more then!!

Yes my wife works getting her hands dirty 5 days a week so she doesn't feel like she's relying on me.

She wants to work in Korat but after she pays for a room, as she would have to live there rather than travelling 2 hours each way in a bus she has to pay for plus petrol costs to get to the bus stop!!

I will presume you don't live in a rural area of the country?

The local chicken factories are full of migrant workers too, and please tell me this, would you like to work in a job you don't want to do, but have to, just to make ends meet?

You're a snob, and a Thai bashing one at that. You've been bashing them on the other thread too, do you even live in Thailand and if you do, why? As you seem to have a hatred for the poor

Well if you know your wife, that makes you an expert on Thai labor nationwide.whistling.gif

I have never seen minimum wage farm workers or any department store workers given free meals!!!

All the village farm labourers in my village take their own, which they pay for, the friends we have in Korat who work there buy their own lunches too.

You love to bash Thais, I'd love to see you toil in a field for 8-12 hours a day and be handed 300 baht for it.

I guess you have been all over Thailand and seen every single work group out there to make the comments about their drinking habits too??

Yet again utter nonsense. Have you ever worked in Thailand?? The answer is no.

Ever worked with Thai? Answer is no.

If no free meals provided , 30 or 50 baht daily allowance is given.

As for drinking habits , try drinking little less , you might see more.

  16. Go see Rudy at Mai Thai on Soi Bukhao and he can convert any bike for you, though he is not the cheapest.https://www.facebook.com/maithaimotorbikes?fref=ts

Have another guy on Theaparsit Road, called Oziemoto.https://www.facebook.com/ozimoto?fref=ts

I would also try Toms shop on Theapparsit road, inside MP gas station, ( he would be the cheaper one ) but not too sure if he can or will do.

  17. Just thought for a change, instead of bashing ALL Thai people, i like to share my experience today.

Might be a little long, but hopefully a pleasant read.

    Background:

I take my 6 dogs for daily walks in the park. I have a bike with sidecar, pretty big custom made sidecar and drive dog to the park.

Today, just like any other day, i did my morning drive and walk with no problems at all, besides one baby dog getting into the biggest mud hole he could find and change color :)

Evening walk getting there was fine, besides the same baby dog finding the same mud hole and turning into a little piglet

As i have loaded the gang back and about to drive back, my bike would not start.

Petrol was full, battery was ok, spark plug connected, i checked all i could, but no luck.

    The story:

So now, i have a dilemma as its getting dark, i am away from everywhere, in the park and no shop near by.

I started to push the bike with dogs in it.

Just to give an idea, total weight of dogs would be around 150kg, plus the bike and a side car, so i am easily pushing anywhere from 300kg up.

First its through the rough grounds of the park, on to the back soi's with no road, but pot holes, then onto another soi and then little uphill.

Total distance, at least 1.5 km.

As anyone can imagine, i am sweating, its heavy, its tiring, soi dogs chasing us, cars are beeping and there i am soldiering on. :)

I walked past many people, who looked at me and continued doing whatever they were doing.

Lots of cars and bikes passed by without a single word only beeps for me to move faster or get off the road.

    Punchline

All over sudden out of the blue a couple shows up, Thai guy and girl, with a tank of petrol.

They said they saw me pushing, and thought i ran out of petrol, so they went and bought me some.

I told them petrol was not a problem and i did not know what the problem was.

They stopped the traffic, (now i am in soi 5, corner with Theaparsit road) to help me cross the road

Girl helped push while guy held cars back(i know funny, rightgiggle.gif )

Once we were on the other side, girl ran over to some shop and bought me some water (i could hardly breath or walk)

Guy went and bought some rope and towed me with his Fino to the nearest garage.

Yes, they bought me water, they bought rope and did everything possible to help.

Once we were in the shop, i was beyond thankful, i do not think i would have made it to the shop alone.

I tried to give them money, which they refused. They refused to take money for the water or the rope, or anything else at all.

These were just 2 great people who saw someone was in trouble and went out of their way to help

    The repairs:

So now the mechanics are looking at the bike trying to figure out what was wrong.

Dogs are super excited as many people are talking with them and playing with them.

The baby pig dog is jumping like a kangaroo to get as much attention as possible.

Finally, they figure out what was wrong, appears one of the wires came off.

    Fixed!!

Now i need to pay the bill, yet another shock, Owner states no need, as i had just done the hard work (pushing)

No problem, FREE and gives me another bottle of water.

To be honest i was in shock, i mean really in shock.

I gave mechanics tip, and was on my way home.

    Moral of the story:

I guess the moral of the story is, we more than often read on TV about bad things Thai people do and Thai bashing, but there are some great people, who do help others, including a sweaty, tired, foreigner without wanting money or anything else in return.

Big thank you to those people today and can only hope more people come across people like i did today.

PS. From now on, i will fix all my bikes ONLY in that shop, i think this guy deserves my business and morewai.gif

  18. Need more contractors please smile.png

The guy from N210, came out and never returned sad.png

So very sorry Konying I just dont understand why.

Would you like me to find out why he didn't return, My wife Wan could easily ring him.

Of course there is no excuse for not contacting you other than maybe a language difficulty because I Know hsi English is very limited

Whatever you wish me to do I will do in contacting him, on the other hand it maybe you do not wish to contact him but I am so disappointed because in the last ten years of knowing him I have never heard a bad word about him with regards to either hs business or his character

Do not even worry about it. it has nothing to do with you and not your fault at all.

There was no language problem as he spoke to my staff not me.

He made it out as if it was a really hard job, but the staff who he was speaking to was married to a builder, so she asked how it was a hard job and basically laid it out for him step by step.

He was in a bit of a shock and asked how she knew, she told him because she was married to a builder.

He left without a quote, and said he would come to give a quote, but clearly he could not quote it as a "hard job" so never heard from him since.

Please do not take it personal and do not think you are responsible in anyway what so ever, Thank you again for your help.

Will just keep on trying others, so more contacts would be great smile.png

PS. The "hard job" just to explain is to cement and then tile front of my business. The land is not on even ground, so would require measuring to make sure new cement is all same level.

Usually would take about an hour of prep work to install metal or wood and attach rope, all leveled, then spread it out, let it dry and top up where needed to make sure all on the same level.

The next is to add another room to already existing room, so basically another 3 walls and a ceiling, plus connecting pipes and drainage for the toilet and shower

None of it is "hard work" but does require some skills
