  1. This is correct. I had to do it this year. Original account opened more than 20 years ago in Bangkok. Now residing in Jomtien and had to go to Bangkok to get my new debit card. However the passbook (bank book) when full, can be issued a new one at any Bangkok Bank branch. Just did that in Jomtien yesterday.. Of course others report having success. So probably like everything else here in Thailand, varies from Branch to Branch or province to province. Immigration springs to mind. Never forget...Thailand is Land of Inconsistency and Confusion. LOIAC.
  2. Agree. Going on 3 decades and very little has ever worked or functioned here as well or efficienctly with anything even close to USA or Europe. Of course they are not perfect, but a damn sight better than here. Thailand still 3rd World and still well behind the curve.
  3. Not. Haven't been wearing routinely for months. Keep one handy if anyone insists or denies entry, but they don't and won't because #1 they desperately want/need the money and don't want it to go elsewhere and #2 have had enough of the Covidiocy, even if still complying. Vast majority of foreigners are not masking in Jomtien nor Chiang Mai, where just spent 3 weeks. Most Thais are wearing them, but "looser" with and about them now. It's over. This place is so ridiculous and all for show. Makes the upper idiots feel important and in control. Time for everyone to silently speak up and lose the freakin' masks.
  4. Not enough wine? Twas a joke. That said...plot on this thread was lost LONG ago????
  5. Have proven The Big Bang over and over again. Last night for example! ????
  6. I've been here LONG too. 27 years to be precise. Can't speak for the others but not Hope For Strays. I actually know them, especially Joe, personally and they do great things and are always sacrificing for the dogs. But hey, not my prob. Go ahead and murder your best little buddy. Is that what you want to hear? I still say you can't and won't. Hope not anyway. Life is a risk for all inhabitants everyday. A life of liberty is better than a life of slavery and a healthy, free life is favorable to being put down prematurely by an overprotective, overthinking dominator. Good luck with your non-existent, hypothetical problem.
  7. That's the point. My opinion of it isn't gonna somehow magically make it better or worse. It's not my problem, it's THAILAND'S problem. The stifling, disastrous and lengthy overreactions by this, and most countries, has been devastating and inexcusable. Still not my problem and because I've enjoyed the results has no magical influence. And doesn't change anything. Nor does the sorry Thai state of affairs and terrible economy change my view or my feeling. I've been supporting this economy for the better part of 30 years. Finally getting some return on investment again after more than a decade, especially with the weakness in the bulletproof baht. BTW...I know a Thai Airways trolley dolly who lost her job. I do compensate her for her "Smooth As Silk" services. ???? ????
  8. All it takes for me is to see that posters name and I'm OUT ????. Tho I do happen to somewhat agree with that first sentence, sans the Judeo part, you qouted. White Evangelicals is more accurate and a big part of MAGA and support for The Orange Con-man. Surveys of early voters and exit polls this year showed between 76 and 81% of white evangelical and "born again" voters supporting Trump, according to the National Election Pool and AP/Votecast. "We essentially have White evangelicals, somewhere around 8 in 10, supporting the president, standing by their candidate, standing by their man," says Jones. https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2021/08/30/most-white-americans-who-regularly-attend-worship-services-voted-for-trump-in-2020/ https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/nov/06/white-evangelical-christians-supported-trump
  9. Take him to a shelter and make a very generous donation. Animal Army, Soi Dogs or Hope For Strays, among others. Could you really kill your perfectly healthy best little friend??? I couldn't and doubtful you could either.
  10. Previously the savings were worth it with Grab & Bolt, but miniscule or none now. Should be able to get a taxi from the queue for B1500. May save B100-200 with Bolt, but not Grab. Hardly worth it.
  11. Have to admit, before the internal shutdown last year, but no tourists...it was GLORIOUS. Reminded me of early and mid-90s when my brother and I and, at very most, a handful of others were the only customers in Tilac or Pretty Lady or Rainbow 1. Sometimes we were the only customers. Far outnumbered by the pretty young things (and they all were back then), where as it's been the opposite for the past 2 decades. 10 dudes to every PYT. No skin off my nose if Thailand insists on shooting itself in the foot. Fact is...I prefer it. Open internally, but difficult for tourists to enter = Let the good times roll!!! ????
  12. Hardly shocking as nearly daily event with these worthless, violent and murderous Thai man-infant jackwagons. Loathsome, horrible, awful, disgusting, detestable...yes. Shocking...nah.
  13. While initial prognosis looks rather bleak, birds are surprisingly tough and resilient. They are capable of incredible recovery. Hopefully that will be the case with this one. Please keep us informed, regardless of the outcome.
  14. Of course this is absolutely correct and this very thing has been explained in myriad ways over the life of this thread. More than a few times by little ol' me. Even my postscript, ever since joining TV/AN (and long before this thread), delivers this very message. Somehow rational, reasonable, basic common sense still falls on deaf ears and blind eyes. Common sense is, apparently, not so common after all. Willful ignorance, unfortunately, in abundance. Hitchens Razor: That which can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence. - Christopher Hitchens ????
  15. Seriously? I've absolutely no idea what unrelated tangent (planet) you're off on. To cordially reiterate... YOU correctly and rightfully held someone to a burden of proof for a claim. Then when YOU are held to that same standard...you dodge, whine and run. Why? And more importantly, why are you not subject to the same standard to which you held Ivor? It's a very fair, simple and nonconfrontational question. Yet for some inexplicable reason, you find it insulting, argumentative and unfair. 555 I don't get it, but typical and totally not surprising after 3+ years of this very thing.
  16. The above you rightfully asked of @ivor bigun Then later you made the following claim... So now you've done the same and stated the above as fact. Why haven't you applied that very same standard to yourself? Since you didn't...then back at ya. How were you able to determine this? Where's your evidence?
  17. To clarify...y'all have nothing new under the sun to offer up. Referring to your postscript. It's totally fits and I concur.
  18. Full agreement with the above...except for me being a lifelong atheist. However my point was not about the evidence or lack thereof. It was about you claiming science as being unchanging or immoveable (won't budge). This is a false equivalency and inaccurate.
  19. Incorrect. Science will budge and even change when better evidence (or even any evidence) is presented. Faith based on dogma (usually) will not.
  20. How would they? Which is exactly the point. Couldn't this purely vague defense be made about literally anything? (Rhetorical of course. Yes is the only answer) Gets nowhere. Proves nothing. Round and round this BS goes for the 2nd and 3rd full circle in 3 years. Same ol' non-arguments with same ol' non-evidence. Hopefully there won't be a 4th. Nothing new under the sun. For once we are in FULL agreement.
