  1. When he left the UK he was 53. It is highly unlikely that that he would have amassed any meaningful pension pots at that age. And how on Earth would he lay claim to them anyway, living as he was, a fugitive from justice living under an assumed name? From the O/P's account it seems that he launched himself into business here from the get go and that's what he survived on.
  2. Didn't you read the full story? The passport Burrows used was that of one of his victim's father. He was hardly likely to aid and abet Burrow's flight from justice was he.
  3. You need to do a bit of homework on that one. https://www.egat.co.th/home/en/the-worlds-largest-hydro-floating-solar-hybrid/
  4. The distance is no problem. I've done that and more on my Earox 155cc quite a few times. But I don't know the roads down that way, however I see you've have plenty of local advice regarding the routes.
  5. I have never had to have anyone to sign to say they have known me for several years and I've lost count of how many passports that is. A passport that has been reported stolen would immediately be cancelled so you're right, it does seem somewhat incredulous. But there is one possible explanation, that the real 'Peter Smith' never reported it missing in the first place. If he wasn't much of a travelling man he may never have noticed.
  6. Yes you are right regarding the level in the USA, but he isn't in the USA is he, he's in Thailand. The only sensible amount of alcohol to drink when driving is none. It's not a matter of how 'drunk' one is, it's about the negative impact that alcohol has on ones ability to drive safely. And that is much higher than people think.
  7. The one drink to avoid is alcohol! 'Alcoholic drinks make you lose up to four times more water than they provide, leading to dehydration in a hurry'.
  8. Your wife obtain one at any Amphur. All she needs is her Thai ID card.
  9. All the waste plastic and cardboard is also collected in our village and then it's taken off in a well overloaded pick up truck to the recycle centre in town and sold. There's obviously money in rubbish, or they wouldn't do it. A strange juxtaposition don't you think?
  10. The one question that comes to mind regarding your post is: 'why the hell do we all keep raising to the bait?' Just ignore the stupid idiot.
  11. Nearly drowning in the Lancaster canal. All us kids in the street being squeezed into an old ladies parlour to watch the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II on a tiny black and white TV.
  12. I've been using the monthly income method for my marriage extension ever since the demise of the embassy income letters. I've never encountered any of the problems that you mention. As long as I can show that 40k minimum P/M has been deposited, they're happy with that. They've shown no interest in the dates. I've never had to use it, but I do know that with a marriage extension, the criteria is actually an average of 40k per month. So if a payment was delayed and spilled over into the next month it shouldn't be a problem. I do live up country where things are a lot more relaxed as far immigration goes. At least that's the impression I get from some of the tales I've read on here.
  13. It's all to do with the way the currencies are performing against each other. If the THB is trending downward quickly, Wise will want the deal closed quickly as well, otherwise they could end up paying out more THB than is strictly necessary. So they will only allow a short window of opportunity to complete the transaction. If, on the other hand the THB is trending upward, they'll be happy to allow a longer period for you to make the transfer. It could work out to their advantage. I have always placed the money I wish to transfer into my Multi Currency account first, then I carry out the transfer in one complete action. Job done.
  14. You did read the full article that I referred you to I trust? I doubt it. 'Units of the Thahan Phran have been sent to the deep south to curb the South Thailand insurgency since 2004'.
  15. Do your homework. The para-military Rangers are NOT mercenaries and it is insulting to call them thus. The Thahan Phran (ทหารพราน; literally "hunter soldiers"; AKA Thai Rangers) AKA the Royal Thai Paramilitary Force is a paramilitary light infantry force which patrols the borders of Thailand and is an auxiliary of the Royal Thai Army https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thahan_Phran
  16. Whenever you initiate a transfer procedure, Wise has incurred a cost. If you then cancel that transfer that cost it a loss to them. Which is why on every transfer, prior to confirming, you are asked to tick a box which says 'I may have to pay a higher fee on future transfers if I cancel'. The evidence is right before your eyes. Have a nice day.
  17. I agree. I like to do a 3 mile walk everyday. Right now I'm up at dawn, a brew of coffee then I hit the trail. It's the only time to be out there whilst it's this hot.
  18. I don't know where you got the idea from regarding the origins of BMI, but it has, none the less, long been discredited. Even the person who dreamed it up, a Belgian named Lambert Adolphe Jacques Quetelet, said that: 'it could not and should not be used to indicate the level of fatness in an individual'. A more recent version called 'Smart BMI' is now being regarded as a more reliable metric to use. According the the original BMI, I am obese. I'm not and never have been, not even close. But when I use Smart BMI I'm normal. Ah, that's better! Top 10 Reasons Why The BMI Is Bogus Calculate your BMI the smart way
  19. Oh if only life were that simple, but sorry you're wrong. It is within HMRC where the problem lies. DWP inform those folks at HMRC when you start drawing your state pension and at what rate, but they then leave it to them to figure out the annual increase, using the 'Consumer Price Index'. As both departments use the same figure, they will, of course remain in step. And the system works, at least it does for the vast majority of pensioners. But not for us, we're a small minority that buck the system and it seems that HMRC does not have a way of catering for this anomaly. It's up to us to 'put the record straight'. I finally cracked this about 10 years ago, following 3 years of correcting my pension rate on-line and eventually receiving a refund by cheque. (I lived in Egypt at the time and had to mail it back to my UK bank of course) I solved the problem in the end by sending HMRC a good old fashioned snail mail letter. That worked and my pension rate was finally pegged and has not been tampered with for the last 10 years.
  20. Thanks for the info, but I'm on a regular marriage extension using income and I've no plans to change anything.
  21. Just to get things into context, a policeman's first reaction to any incident is usually the result of a 'mark 1 eyeball examination'.
  22. You're reading my post either the wrong way round or out of context with the one I responded to. (or I wrote it badly 🙄)
  23. I think this is the only way unless one wishes to revert to getting a regular extension, but it's a very expensive option.
