  1. Thailand does have juvenile detection centres, as reported right here It took me less time to discover that than it did for me to type this post. Can't you use Google search?
  2. You cooked this for her, she didn't eat it and you're surprised! My Thai wife certainly wouldn't thank you for it either. Wake up man, this is Thailand. That's just about the most boring meal you could place before a Thai, or me for that matter. Anyway, it's been almost 24 hours since you posted and there've been 73 responses. How come we haven't heard a single word from you since your original post? I'm beginning to think all this is all a wind up.
  3. You might noy be interested in why an animal should die at a relatively young age, which this one has, but environmentalists and marine biologists usually are, hence an autopsy.
  4. I live in a village surrounded by poverty. I need no reminders of its affects thank you. None of them have A/C, few have fans and I haven't heard of a single case of death by heatstroke.
  5. That's a bit dramatic isn't it? Folks with 100 THB bills are certainly not basking in A/C for most of their day. It fact most. most of them probably don't even run a fan. 100 Baht will just about get them some lighting!
  6. Yes there have been scams related to electricity bills reported on here recently. Delete the message and forget about it. Our bills comes in on the 21st/22nd of the month and gives a 'due payment' date 10 days thereafter. I don't always pay strictly on time, but I don't leave it for much longer either. It's a hard lesson for the good folks of Trang, but the word will quickly get round. Pay up on time.
  7. Well if he's the same guy that I've found on Linkedin, he certainly seems to have his smarts about him. Better qualified than I ever was. Former President of Reading University Kickboxing Society | Bsc. Economics graduate from the University of Reading United Kingdom. He doesn't strike me as the sort of guy who'd just strike out without having some sort of game plan. Good luck to the young fella. I hope Thailand delivers what he's striving for. https://uk.linkedin.com/in/riyan-ruparelia-279b99172
  8. Having lived here for 10 years now, my observations suggest that most of the moaning and groaning emanate not from those of us living our quiet, contented lives in the villages, but from the farang infested ghettos of Bangkok, Pattaya, Phuket and Chiang Mai.
  9. I use my Krungsri debit to pay a regular subscription to a vendor in the USD, in the USA and have always found the exchange rate to be quite acceptable. So where do you get this information from?
  10. To get into Thai Watsadu in Sakon Nakhon you have to cross a segregated cycle lane that was laid down during the cycling frieze period. Remember 'Bike for mum' and Bike for Dad?' A while ago whilst crossing the road to access the entrance I had a very close encounter with a motorcyclist, riding against the traffic flow and in the clearly demarcated cycle lane. One in which I don't think I've ever seen a cyclist by the way. And this was in quiet, sleepy Issan, not on the frantic streets of Bangkok. In Holland, cyclists have priority on the highways. Our well meaning Dutch friends have a lot to learn about the mindset the average Thai road user if they ever hope to introduce their ideas here.
  11. Just did it yesterday. Payment arrived in my Krungsri account in about 10 seconds.
  12. Never. There are sometimes short delays due to 'technical issues', but certainly not several days! One factor I have discovered is, that unless you specifically need to use 'Funds for long term stay in Thailand', don't. It can and does hold up your payment. I always use 'General monthly living expenses' and I've never had a problem since I switched to using it.
  13. The primary mission of Wise is to facilitate the transfer of funds from the 'hard currency' zones to the less developed parts of the world. They never have, and probably never will, facilitate movements in the other direction, nor between developing countries. If you think otherwise you obviously do not understand how Wise operates. To rant about Wise in the way that you have is like moaning about a math's tutor who is unable to teach classic history.
  14. You can't 'accidently' stumble into making a 'fast and easy transfer' because you have to provide the card details. That should be a red flag for just about everyone. I always move the funds to be transferred into my Multi Currency account first. That way there's no chance of a misstep.
  15. Immigration have been accepting this arrangement from myself and many, many others for years, ever since the demise of the embassy income letters in 2019 if I remember rightly. I present the PDF downloads from Wise along with letters from my pension providers. The I/O has always accepted them. AFAIK all they require is some proof of a sustainable income. Pensions fall into that category obviously. At my last extension I tried it it on and just gave them a one page listing from my HMRC tax account showing the 3 pensions that I receive. That was accepted without question.
  16. In line with just about every other country in the world!
  17. Well that's one way to describe the rampant corruption that pervades the immigration service in certain quarters.
  18. Judging by the emojis, I seem to have caused some confusion with this post and I can see why now. What I should have said was a page from my HMRC on-line tax account, giving details of my 3 pensions along with the transfer slips downloaded from Wise'. Does that make sense now ya'll?
  19. All my credits are sent via Wise and therefor from a personal account. All I gave immigration last time around was a page from my HMRC on-line tax account, giving details of my 3 pensions. That was enough to keep them happy. No way would I put 800k in an account and have immigration dictate to me what I can, or rather cannot do with my own money.
  20. And Korat is an improvement on Chiang Mai is it? Wow it must have been really bad up there!
  21. There are plenty of them around our village now, many of them being driven by kids of primary school age. I have pointed out to the Phu Ya Ban (AKA my wife's nephew) regarding the hazards of the kids riding out on the main road leading to the local school. But as always, it's the usual Thai response, 'it's up to them'.
  22. No you won't need an IDP. I've driven in Australia using a UK license a few times and on one occasion I used a a Saudi Arabian one.
  23. Those that you're talking about are generally what one could term 'economic migrants' and they will almost inevitably be swapping an area of low pollution for an area of high pollution, as indeed they do from our region in the north east. Very few people would get the opportunity to make the move in reverse, which is what I'm talking about. Us expats are not generally so constrained. In fact many could even leave the country altogether if they so wish.
