I have read several times that UKPO will accept Thai bank debit cards now, but check first with the bank that the card has been authorized for international use.

Fastest mail delivery service Thailand to UK?
Moonlover replied to stefan2519's topic in General Topics
And I thought that registered mail to the same address at 250 THB was expensive! And it usually takes about the same amount of time. What's slowing down outward mail to the UK is that BA, who would normally carry our mail is not currently flying a direct service to BKK, so alternative carriers have to be found. -
WISE - Any Questions Asked
Moonlover replied to Neeranam's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I've tried that and it doesn't work! You need to go a few Baht below the 50k limit before they will accept it. Probably to allow for unexpected fluctuations. -
It may well be used for that purpose and I'm sure that it will impress the newbie riders in the classroom Neither would I object to its use for that purpose even though I know that it's not what it seems. Those newbie in class wouldn't know any different, neither would they analyze the video in any detail. But I've been around and riding for much longer. To me that's an inexperienced rider who panicked when he saw the truck approaching around the bend. He closed the throttle (whilst in a curve, naughty naughty) and induced a minor speed wobble. He then panicked some more and tried to correct it, but he had no hope of doing so. He was just lucky in that he collided with a firetruck. I don't think we need discuss this any further, I'm sure we will simply stand our ground. Take care and safe riding. (I presume you still do)

I haven't researched current agency prices (not yet) but I've read plenty of posts on the forum that say they paid far less than that.

This one duh!

Sorry but you're wrong there. I watched the whole video several times, looking for the real reason for this accident, because I do not believe it is solely down to 'counter steering'. And I finally spotted it. Take a look at my screen shot. When the rider spotted the truck he took his hand off the throttle! Closing the throttle whilst cornering is very unwise. It can destabilase the bike which in turn alarms the rider coursing him to panic and overreact. I don't think he was counter steering the wrong way at all, he was fighting to regain control of his motorcycle. IMO If he'd kept the throttle open and held his line he'd have been quite safe.

It would appear that it is legal to make your own beer, but only for home consumption, not for sale. From ChatGPT: 'Yes, it is legal to make your own beer in Thailand for personal consumption. However, it is illegal to sell or distribute homemade beer without obtaining the appropriate license. It is also important to note that the legal drinking age in Thailand is 20 years old'. So what are you waiting for?

I shall be 80 when my next renewal comes up. You certainly wouldn't be able to tempt me to do 2 trips all the way from Sakon Nakhon to a city I can't stand anyway, If I have to pay an 5,000 THB to have someone do it for me, it'll be worth every satang.
-
I'll agree with that one. I did the 2 trips to VFS from Udon Thani when I last renewed mine. That was before the agencies leapt on the bandwagon. I certainly wouldn't do it again.

Motorcycling is very popular in Russia as it was in the USSR before those heady days. Have you never seen Putin riding with his biking pals, the Night Wolves? I saw a large group of Russian bikers when I visited Sevastopol back in the days when one could. They were regular visitors apparently. Perhaps they were Putin's emissaries in disguise. https://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-brands/russian-motorcycle-brands/

Money Transfer.
Moonlover replied to NoshowJones's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Absolutely agree with you, plus one other factor. There will be no receiving fee made by the the Thai bank for a Wise transaction, which I believe is something like 500 THB. -
Go to this web site and follow the instructions. It's all clearly explained. There is the option of using an agent if you so wish, but the above guide still applies with the exception of the personal visits to VFS in Bangkok.

Totally agree with you, I've done it! Slowing down in a bend will also induce the wrong counter steer and many inexperienced riders have done that to their cost. Even worse they might even brake when they realize they're going too fast and that is the worst thing of all to do. I'm not arguing against 'counter steering', I was simply challenging an earlier comment that the rider didn't know how to do it. All riders know how to counter steer, whether they've heard the term or not.

Best place in Hua Hin to buy a new motorbike?
Moonlover replied to rudi49jr's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am
True but you'll find that the smaller dealers will only cover routine servicing. The main dealers will have more comprehensive maintenance facilities. Have said that these modern bikes seem to be bomb prove, so you're not likely to need more than the usual oil and air filters changes and a bit of oil on the chain. -
Far too high for that purpose. The light on the traps I see around the village are only a meter or so above the catchment pond.
-
My neighbour installed one a while back, but he wasn't confident that the metal pole was sturdy enough to hold the light up so he shored it up with a bamboo pole. That's villagers for ya.

I've read several times on this forum that us old folk shouldn't be riding motorcycles at our age because our reflexes are too slow! I think that is nonsense. On the contrary I believe that riding a motorcycle regularly actually helps to keep one reflexes sharp. It's the well known principle of 'use them or loose them'. I'm 77 and still ride my Aerox regularly and my sharp reflexes have bailed me a few times on these sometimes crazy roads. That includes, by the way @Harsh Jones, using counter steering to get myself out of trouble.

It's an interesting video but it is not about steering through a bend, it's about hazard avoidance. Something that every motorcyclist needs to know of course. I stand by what I said, a motorcyclist would not steer the wrong way when going into a bend. He wouldn't have got round the very first bend he encountered if he did not intuitively know how to counter steer. In fact the commentor says that in so many words. Quote: If you ride a motorcycle, you already know this'.
