  1. Sakon Nakhon 46 (Satisfactory). Lovely walk out in the countryside this morning. Yes indeed, there's more to Thailand than Bangkok.
  2. Perhaps all those who have come up with usual and not unexpected crop of cynical and negative comments should read this from the full article. 'The Pattaya News wishes Bert a happy and safe retirement. He has assisted our team with numerous stories and British nationals in trouble in Pattaya and his professionalism and friendliness will be missed but he now has retirement to enjoy. Have a great retirement Bert!' There are times, and this is one of them when this forum really does sicken me!
  3. It's amazing how you've managed to work out what causes BPH whilst the scientific/medical world is still trying to work it out. What's your secret? Some of your comments I agree with such as good diet, exercise and losing weight. But your 'magic bullet', drinking your own urine? Come off it! I know that in times passed this was one of the quack remedies for various ailments, but so were the remedies of purging and bleeding weren't they.
  4. Yes I agree, 21 degrees Celsius is an unreasonable target. The room unit could even ice up in these humid conditions. Why do you want it that cool O/P?
  5. And it's all too prevalent in this country. IMO alcohol is much more serious a problem than traffic accidents. It's the root cause of many RTAs of course but there are many more domestic incidences that never come to the attention of any authorities until they reach the serious level that we have read about here. The issues of domestic violence are not taken seriously enough in this country. Not by a long way.
  6. BPH is prevalent in up to 90% of us by the time we reach 85 years, so 'hoping' is not a very viable option. Accepting reality and taking action to mitigate its affect is the best option. I was aware that a problem was likely back in my mid 60s, but did little about it until it really became a nuisance. With hindsight, I know now that I should have acted earlier. There is a lot of really helpful information out there on the web and it really worth anyone's time to get to 'know your prostate' as early as possible in life. Don't wait until it's too late. I'm pretty sure that most men don't even know what a prostate is, let alone what its function is. As far as BPH is concerned, ignorance is NOT bliss!
  7. No, you just need proof that you are married to a Thai national.
  8. In that case Lt-Col (lady) Dr Naphawan Panya needs to replace her helmet right now.
  9. At first I didn't understand your blunt (to the point of rudeness) response, until I realized my error. I should. have course said 'excess funds', not 'access funds'. Does that make sense to you now?
  10. I didn't attempt to correct the sentence, I simply quoted it. In fact to correct it would contravene forum rules. The crux of my discussion is that the original sentence still makes sense anyway.
  11. My bad. I should have said excess funds. Well spotted.
  12. When I first started riding motorcycles back in the UK, (a very long time ago) riding was indeed the terminology used. And I'm pretty sure that it still is. I would also suspect that it's the same throughout the English speaking world. When we see 'driving a motorcycle' it is probably when a translation has taken place and the translator (human or AI) does not have sufficient linguistic nuance to differentiate between 'riding' and 'driving'. Basically, if it's mechanical conveyance, you drive it, no matter how many wheels it has. I long since stopped raising my eyebrows over such minor details.
  13. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the grammar at all. 'many elderly Thais will be spending the holiday alone just as they do for the rest of the year'. The latter part of that sentence refers to the the individuals, not the holidays.
  14. Why do you doubt that? 'Thailand’s elderly population is now growing by about one million per year. The size of Thai family units, meanwhile, is getting smaller. On average, there are now only three people per Thai household'. Thailand's birthrate has been falling for many years and this is the inevitable result. It's happening in many countries worldwide.
  15. Yes it does seem to have a chequered history doesn't it. That's according to legend of course. According to legend 4 artifacts (bone fragments) from the Buddha somehow found their way into the chedi at Wat Phrathat Phanom Woramahawihan in That Thanom. Work that one out. ????
  16. Yes that is the same (one and only actually) Emerald Buddha, although recovered from Laos would probably be a more appropriate phrase as it was taken there from Chiang Mai in the first place.
  17. I hope it all worked out well for you. I've read of a couple of cases on a local forum wherein the hospital came to a stage repayment plan because the patients didn't have the readies available. I think some folks worry too much about this issue.
  18. Obviously I don't mean the same pair! I mean the same type of lens. I did explore the possibility of having surgery, but my +7.5 astigmic eyes were somewhat beyond their capability.
  19. Hospitals will not refuse you treatment if you can show that you have funds available. In fact, in accordance with the Hippocratic Oath, they should never refuse you treatment anyway.
  20. This is why it is so wise to keep access funds in a passbook only term account. No on line connection, no card, strictly over the counter service only with passbook and ID. Why people keep their money so readily accessible is beyond my understanding.
  21. I had 5 minutes to spare whilst finishing my morning coffee and very good it was too. Made with loving care. ???? (ditto this morning)
  22. So I've discovered what the O/P is talking about, despite his very misleading headline. 'Auto' my backside! He's on about very Cheap Charlie manually adjustable specs such as those you can find on Lazada W/S if search for 'adjustable glasses'. Thanks, but no thanks @3NUMBAS, Like @KannikaP above. I'll stick to my very reliable varifocals that have served me well for at least 30 years.
  23. It would appear that auto focus lenses are still in the early stages of development (read about them here) So where on earth did the O/P get hold of 5 pairs of the 'best-selling adjustable glasses' from?
  24. When I wrote that I did have in mind the fact that worry can induce anxiety and that, in turn can result in elevated blood pressure. It's a well known 'vicious circle'. Anyway I'm sure the O/P has had enough reassurance by now that he doesn't actually have a problem. ????
  25. I was also asked for those details when we went to obtain a yellow house book and pink ID. It was the first time in many years that I'd been asked for those details.
