I pretty much expected this type of reply. I have been here long enough to know how it works thanks. I am talking about this guy, who seems to have little respect and left his wife with nothing. Food: Som Tam, Drink: bottled water, Chanting: as little as possible, Box: minimum spec. 50K seems a bit much for a Billy few mates skinflint funeral.

A piece of wisdom I learned many years ago (I think from my dad) is: "Never lend any more than you can afford to lose." Personally, I would offer her 10K towards the cost and tell her she should raise the rest of money best she can from other friends and family. Anyway, how much is a Thai funeral these days?

The wonders of modern technology. Even BMW don't cut off the fan before the battery goes dead, meaning the driver was locked in an almost sealed container in 30+ degrees of heat. Well done the filling station staff. The "notification system" is a mess on here. You get "replies" that are not to anything you wrote. Posts that have nothing to do with the main topic are notified, just two of the regulars having the usual trivial argument. It is time (since we have new owners again) for an overhaul.

Should Biden be added to Rushmore?
George FmplesdaCosteedback replied to Cryingdick's topic in Political Soapbox
It should be either FDR for WWII (yes I know he died before it ended) or Ronald Regan for bringing about the end of the Cold War (even if the wall came down when Bush Snr was Potus). -
Another name change will be in the pipeline after MFP was dissolved and its leaders got 10 year bans. I hope they have learned: "to beat the system you must play by its own rules". In the UK there was an election last month. The main opposition party "Labour" (socialists) had said very little about what they would do when elected. They got in with 32% of the vote, but over 120 seat majority. That isn't very democratic in what is supposed to be the Mother of Parliaments. Now there are riots on the streets as migration is not to be cut but increased and illegal entry into the country is not to be a hindrance to gaining "leave to stay" and eventually a citizenship.

Years ago I took my son to Pattaya several times for a family weekend because even back then there were lots of facilities for kids, but mostly outside of Pattaya town. The trouble is you can't hide "walking street" which is definitely not aimed at family entertainment. When the kids are in bed with supervision adults can have fun but the obsession with "Hubs" is just another catchword that is out of date.

Ex-Pats targeted on Sky Train
George FmplesdaCosteedback replied to DaLa's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
I am most disappointed to hear this news. MRT were always very good at asking if I was "old" and allowing me half fare, never so on BTS. This isn't only going to effect expats it will also effect older tourists. Another bullet in the foot for a small profit I think. -
You can't buy beer after midnight on Sunday until 11 am on Monday (between 2pm and 5pm closed again, then open as normal). Small shops without electronic tills might still sell "on the quiet" if you didn't stock up for two and a half days, but not many of them have a fancy wine selection and spirits are pretty limited. I hope all the new tourists understand why this carries on into Monday.

This is inaccurate: it was ignored and not enforced after a change of government some time later and remained on the books but not part of the regular "alcohol" laws. It was re-enforced at the insistence of the anti-alcohol lobby when Thaksin first took power in 2001. Buddhist and some election days (when the sale of alcohol is banned all day) aside there is no good reason it should not be abolished.
