  1. Income earned from businesses in Thailand should be taxable, just like all the 49% "owned" companies in Thailand that pay tax here.
  2. Well that's a bit of a surprise as I didn't think he had one!
  3. A good and informative bit of news that we have been waiting for. I need to study this more carefully but it seems harsh to say the least at first glance. Where are expats retirees suposed to get the money from if not abroad? All of this money goes into the Thai economy and it looks like another bullet in the foot for Thailand. Who can live here for US$4,450 a year when 600,000 baht less 15% tax looks like a life of minimalist sobriety and thrift.
  4. What an utter load of nonsense. Ask the families and friends of The 2,500 from Thaksin's "war on drugs" what they think of this dreadful crawling to man who should have been in jail for life from the day after the coup.
  5. It is now covered in flight costs for those departing by plane. I expect this will happen to the new arrival tax soon too.
  6. Is the new entery fee going towards funding this? I doubt you will get 1m baht cover for 300 baht on a 90 day stay. I have a feeling UK politician Dianne Abbott must be Phu Thai's financial adviser.
  7. Some of the financial rules are difficult for some to adhere to. Not everyone has a private "pension" that pays a regular amount every month or every year (like dividend paymnets) but might otherwise meet all the criteria. Money in a Thai bank not making innterest is another consideration just as is land-property ownership. Living long term here is not going to be easy with new taxation on all money from overseas and health insurance for the over 65s could simply make moving elsewhere in SE Asia the only option.
  8. You could fly to France and get a rubber boat to the UK, then you don't need a passport or ID or money and they put you in a hotel and give you pocket money, but you can work as a delivery driver.
  9. Above is the picture caption. Doesn't anybody check the articles for mistakes before publishing?
  10. Yes, over 25k a night is very expensive for a Thai. I bet the criminal in the Police Hospital suite doesn't pay anything.
  11. Exactly, my best mate did this about three years ago and was treated for cancer. He had lived here for about 30 years and never more than a few weeks in the UK every year. He had a NI number and an address. Sadly he died in April this year.
  12. The old claim "There is no prostitution in Thailand" is wearing a bit thin. That coupled with entry tax on top of departure tax and the threat of foreign income tax on anyone who stays longer than six months in a year does harm to all tourisism. If you add tour bus crashes, ferry sinkings, taxi scams, general rip offs and double pricing at government parks it's Amazing there are still any tourists. I love all the predicted income forecasts we get from the various tourist comittees, do they throw dice to decide how may billions the latest brainwave will make.
  13. I never suggested he "couldn't" pay, in fact that is my point. The government scheme is 40 baht and it followed on from what he created.
  14. And this is a guy who paid no tax on selling his telecoms company to Singapore. Another "poor" dollar multi millonaire who can't pay his medical bills. He should be on his own 40 baht system, but you don't get a suite on that.
  15. Maybe he was scared he would be charged 35% tax for using an ATM to get money from Aussie so he brought cash. As that old saying goes: "Send your money on holiday to Thailand and stay at home yourself".
  16. The sickest thing about Thaksin is between his ears. Ask the relatives of the 2,500.
  17. So if it wasn't reported and they didn't want it publicized where did Tanakorn Panyadee get the story?
  18. Reading between the lines I would guess Police General Permpoon is looking forward to some grant money to provide equipment for online English lessons in regional schools. I just hope they stick to the language and not the woke nonsense kids are brianwashed with in UK schools these days.
  19. A good point. I do spend as much time criticising both the government and the opposition in the UK, but not on Asean Now of course. The trouble here though is also a matter of 2,500 lives which people seem to have forgotten.
  20. Welcome to the Land Of Smirks. Please pay your entry tax at the kiosk and then proceed to the tax desk to pay duty on all money you have brought into our country. We will check your health care insurance to ensure you are covered for covid, traffic accidents and gunshot wounds. Have a nice holiday.
  21. I will say this again as I always do when wages are the topic: It is time people were paid by the hour in Thailand. Salaries can only demamd what the market will stand for the skills on offer.
  22. (I repeat) A strange comment among several that don't fit the facts since the Thais voted for MFP not PTP, and got PTP thanks to the Senate vote. The Senate was appointed and is controled by the previous government who took power in a coup.

  24. First I have to say all the Weed shops don't look good to Family Tourists and given all the "other" entertainment available quite openly it will not encourage them to holiday in Thailand. For myself i just get tired with the virtue signaling weed heads who go on and on about how much better it is for you and how, unlike alcohol, it doesn't kill people. The sale to adults should be allowed but with a restriction on how much you can buy in any given 30 days. A "weed licence" should be available at a reasonable price from clinics and hospitals with an electronic record of how much credit is left and have the purshaser's ID number or passport number as a means of stopping people having multiple record cards. I am not against dope but I believe it encourages people to try other drugs.
