Industrial Commission exposes Chinese steel mill’s law violations
Strange that it takes an incident like a crane collapse to expose so many law violations. Aren’t there any government agencies doing due diligence or inspections on these companies or all they all asleep on the job? I bet nothing will change and the dust will settle shortly.

Jail time to return for Cannabis players as PM describes the trade as a threat to Thailand
On the one hand he talks about liberalizing the law on one drug, alcohol (which benefits a few rich monopolistic families) and on the other he wants to tighten the law on cannabis (which only benefits the SMEs). I wonder why?

Breaking - Yellow Line Monorail - No Service!
The design of the power supply system has been successfully used on other monorails in the world. Maybe they need to be looking at the quality of installation onto the guideway, and its inspection and certification. I hope it’s an isolated occurrence and there will be no more teething troubles.

Police reform may be easier than everyone thinks
The police usually reflect the society in which they serve. To root out police corruption there must be will from the society, its politicians and citizens, to change. It took many years using ICAC in Hong Kong to change, and that was when it was ruled by an external power. Until the Thai people say enough is enough, and elect leaders strong enough to implement change, nothing will improve. Once corruption is entrenched in everyday life, it is extremely difficult to remove. In some countries it even took Revolution, but eg Russia, it has returned.

Russian fighting it out with hotel guests and Police.
Because like all police equipment and uniform, it has to be supplied and paid for by the officers themselves. Proper Tasers are expensive, so like Body Worn Video, are very unlikely to arrive here.

Breaking - Yellow Line Monorail - No Service!
That is a pity, especially for those passengers who have started to rely on the service. Whilst the trains are proven in service elsewhere, this is the first time a Thai company has constructed a monorail guideway system. will be interesting to see what the actual problem is and whether it affects the Pink Line, using the same rolling stock/guideway system as well.

Thai women dodge death as drunk driver turns beauty clinic into crash zone (video)
Think she has to arrange for some anti ram raid posts to be installed outside, common in the UK.

Police Officer Suffers from Depression After Enduring Abuse During Training
Initial uniform does include two or three medal ribbons, no one knows what for. And the stress of training does lead to depression among some candidates, other students sometimes accompany them for treatment at hospital.

Best place to become a professional in Thai cuisine and study to be a Baker/Pastry Chef
My wife did several courses at Le Cordon Bleu, did very well and was very satisfied overall. But education there is an investment, I haven’t seen much return yet.

Shortage of berry soup and yoghurt in Finland if Thai berry-pickers banned
Usual greed from the labour suppliers and Finnish farmers. Same problem, with Eastern European workers, existed in the East of England and they had to license and regulate the gang masters to control it. Brexit also had an effect making entry more difficult.

Adverts on ASEAN NOW
It is becoming impossible to read articles because adverts, some without X to close are popping up continuously. I realise adverts fund the site but it would be a better user experience if the pop ups were limited and easily closed when irrelevant. Thanks

Gastroscopy Endoscopy
The most common cause of acid reflux/heartburn is GERD, look it up. The valve at the top of your stomach weakens in middle age and allows acid to leak back into your gullet/oesophagus. Also some nasty bacteria called h.pylori can exacerbate it, as can alcohol, lying flat when you sleep. Here’s a link to GERD and Omeprazole often used to treat it. https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/omeprazole-oral-route/description/drg-20066836#:~:text=Descriptions,back up into the esophagus.

Thai woman flies to Thailand from Taiwan to stab cheating husband
Stanley knife is a really horrible weapon, although the cuts will at least have clean edges, easier to stitch. I understand her anger, but it won’t make her husband love her again. It would have been better just to dump him and not risk a prison sentence.

Thailand police foil illegal immigration operation, 66 nabbed
Where is the incentive for the RTP to make this sort of effort? They will probably just seize and sell the pickups, if that. I would be more concerned for the fate of the trafficked people. Will they be treated as refugees or criminals?

Worker fatally electrocuted outside Bangkok mall, others injured
Unfortunately poor training and disregard for health and safety lead to many instances of Thais working on live circuits instead of isolating them. I have witnessed this several times, including when a supervisor was demonstrating an installation method to his workers!

Navy stranded without submarine or frigate amid budget crunch
We will see over the next year what the threat was which required a strengthening of the Navy’s fleet. If there is no threat that is a year’s purchasing and operating budget that has been saved. Rinse and repeat.

Immigration police are in the process of recruiting an additional 300 staff to assist at airports, according to an informed source.

Sole searching: Thai man hits Buddha with flipflop after ex-wife return wish fails
In Bristol, UK, he would have pitched the statue into the docks whilst the police stood down, just like John Cabot’s statue.

Big layoffs ahead in the automotive workshop sector - hold on to your hats!
In low income/no road salt countries like Thailand, people will hang on to their ICE vehicles as long as they can. Governments cannot afford to implement scrappage schemes and there are plenty of 30/40 year old vehicles still in use. Charging infrastructure coverage will be patchy and maintained poorly like the rest of the infrastructure. Whilst there are markets like this, car manufacturers and parts suppliers will continue to supply the demand. I cannot see significant change in the next 20 years, especially when all the Chinese EVs start falling to pieces. ICE workshop jobs are safe.

Vietnamese Gang Arrested for Tourist Robbery
Should be theft, not robbery. The latter only when force or threat of force used. But it doesn’t sound so dramatic, does it?

Breakfast Sausage. TGM, JPM or Bucher?
I buy King brand frozen from Makro in 1kg packs. Couple of flavours and not ruinously expensive. Kids love them, long thin sausages.

Thai woman arrested for trafficking protected rat snakes
So the “quality Indian tourists” we were promised are actually paying for their holidays by smuggling Thai wildlife, great. Thais also putting greed over protection of their own ecology, a major reason why foreign tourists visit, what a surprise.

Declining conditions of Bangkok’s Klong Ong Ang raise concerns
Construction or renovation is never a problem in Thailand, as many benefit from the allocated budget. Maintenance is a different story, as the budget is either never allocated or is small, leading to lack of interest. You only have to look at the original Airport Rail Link where half the fleet had to be robbed for parts as someone never budgeted for maintenance spares.
