  1. Let me set the record straight. Firstly, being a British taxpayer is not dependent on my current place of residence. I’ve contributed to the UK system for many years, and I still do. That gives me every right to voice my opinions about the state of the country — especially when they come from direct observation and personal experience. Secondly, my comments were not an “attack” on people who use food banks. I described what I saw with my own eyes and what was shared with me by someone who lives and works in the UK. If you disagree with that perspective, you are entitled to your view — but it doesn’t make mine invalid or dishonest. To suggest I was broadly labelling all food bank users as drug users is disingenuous. I never said or implied that. I acknowledged a very real concern — that in some cases, people may exploit a system meant to help the vulnerable. That doesn’t deny the existence of real, hardworking people who rely on food banks. In fact, I find it tragic that this is necessary in a developed country like the UK. Also, drawing comparisons with slums in Thailand to somehow invalidate my observations is both irrelevant and a deflection. Every country has its challenges — but I was commenting on the decline in living standards in the UK, which is a legitimate concern shared by many, including those who still live there. You’re free to disagree with my views. But misrepresenting them to make a point weakens your own argument. If we want to have a genuine discussion about the problems the UK faces, let’s do so honestly, without twisting words or making personal attacks, especially in regard to my son.
  2. No, The HMO owner says that is what he has been offered, and he owns HMOs, not hotels. He said the councils were in dire straits as they had run out of hotels to put them.
  3. I completely agree, The way some posters here react, you’d think I was celebrating the decline of specific areas, which I most certainly am not—my own family still lives there. Many of those commenting either haven’t been to the North of England or haven’t visited the UK in recent years. In my post, I mentioned that visiting North Yorkshire felt like stepping into a different world—it was refreshing and an absolute pleasure. Unfortunately, many towns and cities in the North have seen significant decline. Inner urban areas are struggling with underinvestment, high street decay, and a lack of meaningful opportunities. It's disheartening to see so many once-thriving communities now facing social and economic hardship. Those from more affluent parts of the South may not have witnessed these changes firsthand. That doesn't make these observations any less real. There is growing frustration among working taxpayers nationwide. When people feel ignored or overwhelmed by rapid change without adequate support or consultation, unrest becomes a very real risk. So while not everyone commenting may be familiar with these areas or experiences, that doesn’t make the concerns any less valid.
  4. So now the respondent can't win, you ask for links, he provides them, and then you want to trash the source of the link, which is a Daily newspaper in the UK. Here is an independent report on the Daily Express that finds them no better or worse than any other source. https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/daily-express/
  5. In my view, that was simply a catch-all answer to your question, because they ' profiled ' you without justification.
  6. They are according to my sources. However, you are disputing a friend of mine's comments, who works for a primary HMO owner, who told him that. He had nothing to gain by making it up, and suggested I look into it. I have since heard from others that they leave the premises in a disgusting state. Although the government offers to bring the places back up to standard, they don't use quality materials on a like-for-like basis, opting instead for very cheap alternatives. When I disagree with the government's policy on housing these migrants, my conscience would not allow me to go down that route to make money.
  7. No BS about it, if there was an election tomorrow, they would get annihilated.
  8. It's not up to you if you want me there or not. I am a working British taxpayer, so it's a daft comment, and you say it as if you have the power to prevent me from coming and reporting what I see on a message board. What a silly thing to say. The ones I saw whilst in the car with my son didn't look like nurses to me!!
  9. A driver stopped me in the car park by the Nana hotel as I was passing a small food stall and offered me a flat fee for the airport at 500 baht and would pick me up at the Novotel, which he did. For a taxi, just walk into the Nana hotel car park, they always loiter there looking for fares. I booked him for the following day.
  10. Nothing says “thank you for my romantic success” quite like flinging your underwear into the sea. Truly, the goddess must be uplifted in more ways than one.
  11. In my view, the North of England has increasingly and unfairly been burdened with the challenges of rapid migration and limited support infrastructure. This includes both asylum seekers and economic migrants, many of whom have arrived without adequate long-term integration plans in place from the government. Alongside this, some local communities — including sections of the White working class — appear to have lost hope, contributing to a broader sense of decline in certain areas. Someone from the South — for instance, from Hayling Island in Hampshire — may not fully grasp the daily realities or the social and economic shifts happening in towns across the North. But that doesn't mean these issues aren't real or worth discussing. Regarding your immigrant quota, those who work and contribute in Hayling Island, I can assure you that is not the case up North with hotels full of non-working migrants. My family has deep roots in the region. My sons, siblings, and extended family live and work there — they're part of the community, with homes, jobs, and children of their own. I'm still actively involved myself, including through building housing locally, so this isn't a nostalgic or detached perspective. I'm witnessing real, accelerating decline. Where should they move to? You think it would be that easy to uproot? I'd also like to see the police return to their core function: policing crime. With serious issues like knife and gun violence rising in some areas, it can feel frustrating to see resources diverted to activities that, while symbolic, don't address the growing concerns of safety and law enforcement. Prioritising public protection must come first.
  12. I took some visitors there the other month and there were no donations required. In Isaarn, which covers a vast area with many provinces, you have to get out there and get proactive to see what's going on. There's no Soi 6 or Nana plaza up here, and long may that continue. We do have women's bars, but they aren't in your face screaming "' Hello' hansom man " It's very peaceful and laid back where I live and if a person wants more action, there is Khonkaen, Maha Sarakham, Nakhon Panom, Buri Ram to name but a few. I have just gone 63, and I enjoy my house, the new Gym that has opened, we have a great lake in the centre of town with a running track around it and picnic areas, The lake has some very good clean hotels there at 500 baht a night, it Has restaurants on the lake with live entertainment. We have the rocket festivals, there are all the other festivals throughout the year from Songkran to Loy Krathong, Roi Et airport is the gateway to be in Bangkok in an hour and the ability to fly anywhere in Asia. We live in a great climate, it's laid back. It beats Wigan or Liverpool on a wet Wednesday!.....😁
  13. Well, You are right there, most of them spend more time undoing the policies of the previous government than they do focussing on the important things of the day. Blair was the one who swamped the country with uncontrolled immigration.
  14. I've been up here in isaarn since 2006, believe me, there was NOTHING here then. I like it. And I came from a full on life with businesses in Pattaya.
  15. Backpedalling and trying to justify your nonsense post, which was entirely without basis. The thread was certainly not racist. Point out the racism in the post? Or is it, you just don't like factual reports? Why would my misery have begun on July 4th 2024? BTW, Where does it say in my post as you incorrectly asserted that I flew into Heathrow and was met by a Pakistani immigration officer? You are just a clown who cannot read, aren't you? You then refuse to acknowledge your mistake like a typical Labour lefty
  16. Hi, I did actually list further down in another post in this thread all the towns and cities I visited, but they were all in The North and all were in close proximity to one another by car.
  17. It seems to be OK going the other way, I sent additional information to HMPO on May 27th, and they received it June 4th. Thailand Post track and trace but not EMS
  18. 1. Yes, wine, I bought it cheap and drank plenty of it. 2. I didn't buy spirits. 3. Salads and veg I ate plenty. 4. I have private insurance both in Thailand and the UK. 5. I drive on both sets of roads, I drive a lot in Thailand without a problem. 6. Doesn't apply to me. 7.I am already registered for tax in Thailand AND England. 8. I am not a digital nomad. 9. I don't go to lady bars, I am with current partner 29 years.
  19. Then you have commented and opened your mouth without reading the post properly . You didn't stop reading the post, you didn't read it at all. 1. I didn't fly into Heathrow and nowhere in my post have I suggested that, nor in my post was I allowed into Heathrow by a Pakistani immigration officer. I flew in to MANCHESTER. So, why are you telling blatant lies? 2. I flew into Manchester from Doha. 3. I do not hate the UK in any shape or form, I have two sons and Siblings there, and I still do business there in house building. Where do you get off on here telling outrageous untruths?
  20. Nothing to do with being outmatched, Cambodia has the international community on its side and one thing these thin skinned politicians hate, is losing face when its obvious they are in the wrong.
  21. I am well aware of that. And those migrants are usually staying long-term to work and settle there, which is a far more complex and costly process.
