  1. https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/politics/article/3312781/cambodia-file-complaint-icj-over-thai-border-dispute-left-1-soldier-dead https://www.nationthailand.com/blogs/news/asean/40050724
  2. Ridiculous overkill regarding a border dispute that the ICJ has ruled against them, and now they are just nitpicking on land areas around it. It's not protecting borders, it's bullying a much smaller neighbour.
  3. Why should they be on their knees when ' right ' is on their side?
  4. My other half has a 10 year tourist visa for the UK. It was around £1000. But the same as I have done in Thailand we have done for her in the UK. We have obtained the correct legal visas
  5. It has always been The Netherlands. They have not changed the name.
  6. You can't vote for Tommy, he has no political standing. So what are you talking about? Furthermore my post is not anti immigration , my post is about what I saw whilst in the UK.
  7. The population of New Zealand is 5.2 million, population of Australia is 26 million, Canada 40 million. Then look at the size versus population of these countries, compared to the UK. UK population officially is 68 million. 17% born outside, roughly 10 million. No comparison. You are comparing apples to oranges.
  8. A ridiculous comparison. Nearly every member of this board and the wider expat community has followed rules to stay here. They have come through immigration, they have met the statutory requirements to stay here, they are checked and vetted, there are 90-day reports, there are penalties for overstay including IDC, they have identification and passports which can be checked. The vast majority are contributing to Thailand financially through tourism, buying condos and cars, paying for children's education, looking after extended families, and not leeching from the country or system. That beats rolling up in a dinghy, throwing your documents into the sea, and bringing in undocumented terrorists, jihadists, economic migrants, etc Your comparison is a nonsense.
  9. And you don't think the people are now massively regretting it, hence the street protest outside Downing Street and marches nationwide. This Labour government will not last full term.
  10. You're splitting hairs, I think it was fairly obvious what I meant. I obviously didn't mean the whole of the UK
  11. It was for me as the first time I have used them.
  12. Happens all the time in the local Lotus up here trying to use phone apps and failing. Even worse when they get that 10,000 baht or whatever as a government allowance and then the fun and games begins when the cashier is trying to process the payments. I use my UK tap card or QR code through local bank. I even did the TDAC in paper back up so as not to annoy the immigration officer when I returned by messing with a phone.
  13. A month. I went to Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Bradford, Halifax, Oldham, Sheffield and Huddersfield. Also, To see friends and a bit of sightseeing I went to Harrogate, Aysgarth, Richmond, Whitby and Pickering. Supermarkets were Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury, Home Bargains, Aldi. I was doing some business in some places, and others were for my pleasure. So yes, I covered a reasonable amount of ground.
  14. That's an unrealistic assumption . Of course people carry cash. Or are you saying what I saw with my own eyes didn't happen? Beggars are everywhere in the towns and cities, especially by ATM machines and supermarket entrances.
  15. That's fine when talking about holiday choices, it's irrelevant when talking about returning to your birthplace, which has changed beyond recognition.
  16. I had no problems at all with Qatar Airways, it was a great flight both ways on all four legs of the journey.
  17. Thanks, My mate fits security cameras and fire alarms in these HMOs and knows the owner well, who has about 30 of these places. He deals with the lower end of the market, and he told my mate this is what he has been offered to take in migrants, and he's doing it.
  18. Housing benefit and what councils are prepared to pay to get themselves out of a sticky situation, when they have nowhere to put them, is not part of the equation. That is how bad it is in the North of England, where they ditch the migrants.
  19. What an ill thought out ignorant silly post. You haven't seen or been to where I just have but feel obliged to comment and make sweeping statements on the UK as an American. What a clown. What do you mean by' Sorry, your funds are low?' Another moronic, unfounded load of $hite. Migrants in hotels in Thailand? ........................... You mean guests in the country entering by legitimate means and paying for hotel rooms? If you've nothing to contribute, which you clearly haven't, go find a hobby and leave forums to grown-ups.
  20. I agree with you, but it's hard when I am ex forces and still have two sons living and working there, plus remaining close family bonds to see this devastation happen.
