Female teachers required to serve alcohol, dance at religious event
Scouse123 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Agreed, They should be doing soapy massages and a three course meal as well. -
I would stay out a month, but that's only what I would do personally. I would let the dust settle. It seems you have basically been playing the system, which many people do, but you unfortunately hit the wrong Immigration officer. It's a risk you take.

The Postman keeps trying to 'befriend' me.
Scouse123 replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
The Postie has heard all the stories about foreigners coming here and building houses, giving away pick ups and motorbikes so is just fancying his chances. Promotions at the Post Office are a bit thin on the ground at the moment. -
The OP originally stated he'd been refused at Phuket after being granted a tourist visa in Penang. I am not implying anything sinister or that he is a bad person or anything but he has attempted to drip feed the board by what actually happened. By this I mean after board members queried him, up pops the three day overstay when first stating he had absolutely nothing wrong in the passport. Then he mentioned further down the line in another post the IO was suggesting he didn't have funds to support himself, then there was the suggestion that he was living here, which he probably is to all intents and purposes. Furthermore, there is the situation of members asking him to post the actual refusal in the passport on here, so that it can be looked at, he has chosen to swerve this request made by multiple posters which suggests he obviously doesn't want you to see the visa and reasons for refusal. So it's obvious asking advice on here and not telling the whole story that posters will become suspicious. Moving next what he himself says, about why was he granted a visa in the first place, as though it is now the fault of the Thai Embassy in Penang? Well a visa can be double checked at immigration points, the same applies to those granted visas to the UK or Europe if an IO is suspicious. In the UK, and I have known it happen, where a person has been turned around and sent back basically accused of obtaining a visa by deception/under false pretenses OR obtaining a visa not used for its intended purpose. I wouldn't start waving the rules, regulations and Thai law around to an IO. AFAIK, An IO can refuse you at the border regardless of the fact you have a visa. I wouldn't personally attempt to be a smart-ass by trying a different immigration point in a day or so. I would stay away and have a month in Cambodia. Two refusals would not look good in a passport. But as they say, up to you!

Thai wife being bullied by family
Scouse123 replied to thefarangteacher's topic in Marriage and Divorce
The gossips know pushing these areas can cause conflict with the couple and lead to arguments and bust ups and they enjoy this. They are not fools and know they are causing friction. They get nothing out of it except the satisfaction of stirring the pot! If he buys a house , then its the next thing like Where's the new car? They get a buzz from it. They have nothing to do and causing problems is a pastime in Isaarn fuelled by their own inadequacy. They are notorious gossips. The OPs lady needs to toughen up and tell them she is well taken care of and happy and her financial situation is her own business It's good advice as that is whst mine did to handle the troublemakers, after talking to me and asking me how she should respond. -
Usually when booking the ticket. Qatar air does the same for priority or premium seats unless you are a Gold member, then its free for aisle and legroom seats. I have witnessed many problems on board with Qatari/ Arab guests, who board the plane and don't pay for priority seats and then the wives just try to move fare paying passengers around so that they can sit with their husbands and kids. This causes stress to cabin crew and distress to other passengers who must sit and listen to the arguments of these people trying to force their own way but don't want to pay the fees. The guy should be banned from Thai Airways and any alliance group of flight partners that THAI is a member of. Flying is stressful enough, we don't need clowns like this making it worse.

Well, the two EMS guys will be having a right laugh tonight whilst sat having their food with the family! I bet the guy hopes he doesn't bump into these two in Lotus whilst he's out getting the weekly shopping. You got to love the mirth on their faces, they are doing their best and struggling to stop themselves rolling around on the floor.

Hi, Just back from Khonkaen. According to the report my triglycerides were 97 last year and 117 this year Sheryl........... I believe this is well within limits. The Whole abdomen test went well. No causes for concern. The Gallstone is indeed a small gallstone and not a tumor. They said they could determine this as it had moved, if it had been a tumor it would have been attached to something. A slightly fatty liver I was told, slightly enlarged prostate but they said this is common for my age. There were no dense areas of concern, no masses, no tumors, and no suspicious looking areas of concern. So, diet to focus on now and a bit of healthy living, cut down calories food wise; as well as moderate exercise.

Could mean Phnom Penn..???? -
Hi, Just checked the LDLs and they were at 143 and shouldn't be above 130. HDL is 47 and shouldn't be over 40. There's a few dietary changes on the way, cheese and ice cream for example followed by diet to lose some weight. It ain't sky high but I am prepared to help myself. Mediterranean diet will be OK as I like that kind of food anyway so it's no hardship and I'll be buying one of those air fryers for chicken, fish and potatoes. I don't eat Big Macs, pizza, hotdogs, burgers, donuts, not my kind of stuff. Soft drinks only with 0 calories. I'm not massive on fried food. Exercise I will increase it, especially cardio at home, a bit of aerobics etc. I am a decent walker but weather lately has not been good for that. Oh, And I've now quit all alcohol for the last six weeks, so I wonder what my readings might have been if I hadn't done that. Anyway, nothing too drastic but a wake up call.

I will avoid stereotyping to the best of my ability and just talk about where I live, which is a typical Isaarn village. We have a compound and no immediate neighbors. Rubber trees to my left and sugar cane to my right. Opposite us is government land, where a few makeshift dwellings have appeared and small allotments. There are very few around my village that actually work. I do know some young student boys who work at the local hotel part time ( but still eight or nine hours) for 100 baht per shift, If I did that as a foreigner to a Thai, I would be arrested for labour laws. We have the old grandmas and grandpas as does every village, that sit around on flat wood benches eating, doing nothing and watching the world go by. A good few of them have ' good for nothing ' sons usually mid thirties and early forties that have hardly done a days work in their life. By and large, they have alcohol or drug problems. They disappear from time to time, usually when the out of town police have visited and had a sweep and performed urine tests, we are then rid of them for a few months whilst they spend time in the prison. On many occasions I have offered work to locals when they have asked for money, nothing difficult as that is beyond them, like cutting lawns or washing the car. They are NOT interested. They want to borrow only, which means give to them. We do have some guys who pretend to be wealthy and I have seen them in the local hookers bar, of which we have one in our locality with girls from Laos working there After their evening is over, they either disappear to a short time room or get into their heavily financed pickup or Fortuner and drive back and park this new car outside a ' filthy shack' in the village. It's comical seeing brand new cars outside of shanty houses. It's the face thing! the only thing the girls in the bar see is the car, not the living quarters. I would sooner have a 3 wheel tuk tuk and a nice house but they just don't see it that way. Even those on the outskirts of the village with big houses, (usually bigger cops, senior government or some of the larger store owners), have big houses with big walls and manicured lawns, but when you enter the houses, there is no furniture except for the odd stool and the obligatory 50" TV and a table to charge the all important cell phones. Time and again, locals and my other half's alleged friends have come to our house seeking to borrow money. They are all jobless of course. it is their pastime when they are not busy trying to sell somebody's friend of a friend's land so they can earn commission. Other than that, they spend their time gossiping about other villagers, playing the illegal lottery, playing hi lo and drinking Lao Kao, whilst moaning about their sad existence. However, this is how they choose to live. It irritates me so I find it easier not to communicate with them except for good morning, good evening and a big smile. It's as close as I want to be to most of them after all these years. Nobody here wants to be ambitious and nobody wants to work. But everyone wants to borrow with no job or ability to repay.

Because that's how they like it, working in the informal ' gig economy ' no responsibilities, come and go as you please. Always good to get one or maximum two weeks decent work out of them, after that and having received their wages, they become useless. Their only hope is when the bus comes to collect workers and take them to Bangkok, and then the problem is getting them to get on it. They are not looking for a steady income, they are looking for ' right now's problems ' and when those problems are gone then so is the work ethic.

I would chip in 5,000 baht and that's the end of it. You said they ain't skint, there are various ' pools of money ' that people donate through their lives towards their funerals in the villages and then there will be the envelope donations etc. You are acknowledging and contributing without playing ' billy big boots ' or a fool. Total costs should not exceed 50,000 baht for a reasonable village send off without being too flash but doing it properly. They are pretty much like weddings in the money respect, it's like how far do you want to go!
