What? Giving away hundreds of dollars to Thai friends in Surin? Nah.
Typical ThaiVisa farang cynical response and avoiding the real issue. Several Bank Branches in Prasat, Surin, Buriram were visited only to be refused the transaction.
Would a return to the Gold Standard help all hoarders?

... yeah man, annoyingly paranoid, already started mid April in some places ... here's the respective announcement of Bangkok Bank for example:

And give the Bank 220B every withdrawal. It was free back in 2005.

Suspect it is a covid issue - nobody wants to handle foreign currency anymore - reports from those returning quarantine hotels and ordering room service have been cash bills only on table outside room, sprayed with disinfectant and then allowed to dry and then sprayed again and then taken in surgical gloves. Foreign currency is obviously foreign so must be suspect.
It would seem that decontamination processes are not available. So how dirty is the Baht, lol? Perhaps Rooster would enlighten us neanderthals in his next column!

"Covid-19: Thailand named best in the world in coronavirus pandemic recovery stats"
its a shame the UK doesn't recognise this ????
Is it because the UK Foreign Office employ robots at their Embassies who fail to communicate facts to the Home Office. Or is there some other ulterior motive in the UK Government failing to recognise the situation in Thailand. Perhaps 'Bodge' has not fully recovered from his infection!

I have a few hundred dollars which I gave to local Thai friends who tried to exchange them for Baht yesterday. ALL banks in Surin were visited and all refused to exchange the currency. They had to drive to Buriram Airport before the dollar was accepted.
Is anyone having the same problem elsewhere in Thailand?

Is there a surfeit of Royal Thai Police Generals? Does it really require a General to arrest three illegal Bangladesh immigrants crossing over from Cambodia. Perhaps the General just happened to be on site as the illegals came across the 'stream'! Obviously a very lucky or knowledgable copper, hence his rank!
Perhaps Rooster would provide some inside info in his next column. Which I have only recently discovered and enjoy reading.

Is there anybody selling avocado grafted plants in Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram or Surin?

You do not have to be a genius to recognise that China has been exploiting the the consequences of the virus since day one.
Which country has benefited the most from the pandemic?
Does the UN have the answer?

Does anyone know of a Company providing Health Insurance for a 80 year old?

July 1st would be my guess.
My flight was cancelled and the airline have offered me a return to Heathrow on the 1st July.

Over the last few weeks I have been observing the Flight Arrivals & Departures Board at BKK. I note that some airlines appear to be operating regular flights. Is CAAT monitoring compliance?

I do not believe the published figures regarding numbers infected and mortality. the WHO is basing its strategy to fight this virus on details collected by !?!? Politically manipulative is how I view data from a number of countries which I presume, (unless someone knows better) is then collected, collated and published by WHO. and published.

I am scheduled to depart BKK on 19th April and was planning to stop enroute from Surin at Korat, staying overnight to meet my GF's daughter who is living with her Grandparents and attending College there. A child I have known from the age of two. Will hotels be allowed to welcome guests if they pass the health checks at the hotel?

I lived in the south for many years on Samui. We encountered alot of people from the south, and they are famous for being hot headed, and losing their temper easily. You do not want to provoke them!
A battle over wood. What can one say? The juvenile spirit prevails.
I thought this was an Isaan forum, not the south.

so check the email size, make sure you also check your spam folder (if you haven't received the automatic reply email). also, as mentioned earlier - today (6.April) is a holiday in Thailand, the embassy is closed. At any rate, they're good, you will receive your letter and in case of a query they will contact you.
Two emails, docs attached are 3Mb. There has been no response at all.
I did not know it was a holiday today 6th April. Perhaps tomorrow will bring a response. I remain ever optimistic. Thanks for your reply.

I have sent two emails with all the required documents as PDF attachments. There has not been a peep out of them.
Meanwhile local IMO is insisting on seeing the Embassy letter before giving me a visa extension.
Has anyone actually received a reply from the embassy supplying the required memo to be presented to IMO?

And where do you think they would get the raw data from?
If the stats are made up to look good, who needs factual raw data?

We seem to be fairly consistent in the daily number of new cases and deaths, whereas in most other countries the increase is exponential. Is this the world's best medical hub or what?
Probably the worst hub for reporting new cases?

Travelling inland from other provinces to BKK airport. What public road transport options are still available from Surin?

Over 70 confined to home, no problem for me, been self confined now for 3 weeks.
No bread from big C, so i have started making my own, quite good actually, bit too crusty from my wife, but ok for me.
Made some tomato soup, all ingredients home produced, lovely bowl of soup, with crusty bread to dip in, delicious.
Colin I have been doing the same for yrs. Why Corvid to find a justification for living a natural life.?? Try oranges and lime and make some marmalade, or get some frozen strawberries and make some jam. Many unripe mangos are falling , use them to make a lovely mango chutney, or add to a chicken curry.

I note that the German Gov., is organising repatriation flights. What is the UK FCO doing?
I live in a very small rural community in Issan. I feel a lot safer here than I would in the UK. The hurdles travelling across Thailand to BKK, Flight to UK then public transport from LHR of over 3 hours before finally unlocking the front door seems an invitation to Covid.

My recent experience of purchasing anything in the UK, be it a simple newspaper or a pint of beer was that most customers paid with their swipe card. Real hard cash in the towns was becoming a rarity.
