  1. I think it's no problem to get SS if you're working at a private school. You can make the arrangement yourself with someone from the school helping you.
  2. Don't Thai laws prohibit polygamy? This news article confuses me, even though I live in Narathiwat, apparently the marriage hotspot for Malaysians, myself.
  3. Exactly. Immigration is actively enforcing the rules now and doing checks on WPs and passports. If you can't produce those on very short order, your ass is going to the detention center. Working without a WP, especially at a formal school, is a huge gamble, and I would never do it. Like I said l, I'd rather live in Siberia (with temperatures dipping below -60 °C), or in war-torn Myanmar, than stay in Thailand illegally. It just ain't worth it.
  4. Because of the stupid changes of rules by the teacher council, soon the only qualified foreign teachers will be Filipinos and other cheap NNES. You reap what you sew.
  5. St.Roberts is no longer recognized by TCT. Furthermore, my school does not wanna go through the process of hiring me in a non-teaching role. Also, a school in Yakutsk, Siberia, has again expressed interest in hiring me, and so has a school in Naypyidaw, Myanmar. So I have my picks of new schools already. Both schools would pay significantly more too.
  6. "Announced on 24 July 2023" 🙄
  7. Do I need to register my new address first?
  8. Thx cuz. I will go to immi soon.
  9. I have never had to submit a TM30 before. My immigration office never mentioned it. Why would this suddenly change? I am not the owner of the new home. My partner is.
  10. I have just changed address but I'm still living in the same town. Should I notify immigration immediately or can I wait until my visa extension is due, late July? If the former: can it be done online too?
  11. No more rats in Hat Yai than elsewhere in LoS. Why the bias mikebell?
  12. Not enough money to fill a brown envelope in Yala apparently.
  13. Capt. Steven Ponter, aka HammerMan. Not just any old geezer.
  14. All these ferry routes are dead in the water. Captain Steve has recently retired, so no chance of any restart in the near future.
  15. I often walk right next to where the bomb went off. Scary to think it could happen at any time. Inshallah my loved ones and I will be spared from disaster.
  16. Wait a minute. Can I already pay across the border in, let's say Malaysia, using my Thai account, by scanning their QR codes?
  17. Yes, the insurgency has its temporary flare-ups. Hopefully, one day a comprehensive peace agreement or long-standing cease-fire between all parties involved will be achieved. But I'm not hopeful.
  18. Frothing at the mouth again about muslims? Mashallah, can't expect anything else from a darn Brit alhamdulilah. Inshallah you will one day see the light. Barakallah to you.
  19. Why would they? It's a local conflict.
  20. I never worry. Foreigners haven't been deliberately targeted in 20 years of conflict. Besides, if it's my time, then it's my time. Only God knows when that is.
  21. Though it's become much quieter, with fewer incidents, the conflict has never quite stopped since 2004. I live in Narathiwat btw, so I experience the insurgency firsthand.
  22. Guess that's gonna be the plan: just see how far I come, and hold a taxi whenever I get stuck.
  23. Not the day of arrival or departure. Just dropping off a car at the terminal in the early evening, after dark. I love walking and my hotel will probably be close, in the King Kaew Rd./ Lat Krabang area, so why not? Not doing it to save money, but just for the heck of it.
