  1. Sad to see my home province being in such a state. I'm overseas now, but will return to Narathiwat next week. Hopefully, there won't be any follow-up incidents in the short term.
  2. I can only say: stay on the west coast, i.e. Krabi, Trang, Satun. The east coast is soaking wet in November and December. Source: just believe me.
  3. I had great speed with the AIS package I bought last year. It was very expensive though and I'm looking to get better value for money. I have an old Xiaomi Android phone btw. Not sure if it can even accommodate an eSim. 4G is the maximum speed for sure.
  4. Here's the deal: I'll be traveling to Western Europe (2 different countrues) in October and I'm wondering whether to get a Ready2Fly package or a Sim2Fly SIM card (eSIM or regular SIM). I'll be there for 18 days including arrival and departure dates, and I need at least 5 GB 4G internet, plus some affordable phone call minutes. The R2F bundles of my carrier, AIS, are pretty expensive when including phone calls. Last year I paid about 3800 baht for their "Hot" package. This year I've been looking into a Sim2Fly SIM card. What do you think suits my needs best?
  5. Here in Mueang District we have barely seen any rain over the last five days. Our plants could surely use some.
  6. You left out Pattani, Yala, Betong, Narathiwat and Sg. Kolok.
  7. Same here. I teach in Thailand and it's the end of the first school term. As usual, I always seem to get sick right after classes have finished. This time is no exception.
  8. I hope that one day a comprehensive ferry service across the Gulf of Thailand is going to happen, but it won't be with the current operators or fleet, I'm afraid.
  9. Outside of Pattaya they're just called for what they are: brothels. All gentlemen live in Pattaya; you know that already.
  10. You can always try. I got my fourth waiver after six full years. If you can show sufficient personal development and a desire to get your educational credits, I'm pretty sure you can get number four.
  11. Another dead ferry service. I told Captain Steve multiple times that perhaps it would be best to enjoy his old age and retire, instead of wasting his millions on non-viable ferry routes.
  12. There are no flights between Trang and UTP, so she will have to fly to Bangkok DMK.
  13. If you cannot resist attractive students, then please, don't become a teacher. If you cannot resist someone younger than 18, perhaps it's time to seek professional help.
  14. I'm still trying to find out how the heck to get qualified in Thailand as a foreigner. Surprised to learn about an exam, as I had read this exam was been cancelled earlier this year and replaced by an online course offered by the Teacher Council of Thailand (TCT).
  15. I teach that age group. If a girl would try touching me like that, I'd politely decline and tell her she shouldn't do that to anyone, let alone her 40+ year old male farang teacher.
  16. All girls wear hijab and long sleeved clothes. None of the men at school, even their classmates, are allowed to touch them anywhere. It's strictly enforced. But, as I said, I'd never touch any minor girl, or student of mine, anywhere. Goes against my ethics.
  17. As a fellow teacher in Thailand, this disgusts me. You should never lay your hands in any way on your students, no matter their age. I teach 12 to 15 year olds at an Islamic school and I cannot for the life of me imagine even touching the girls. I feel bad already if there's any skin-to-skin contact and try to avoid it. Even if I taught 18+ year olds, I'd stay far away. With a minor, it's even worse. At the very least, this guy should be deported and blacklisted.
  18. Songkhla would be my choice, but make sure you speak some Thai there.
  19. I've not been there yet for any dental work, but I may choose to do so. It still takes about three hours each way to travel there, but if it's really good I'd be willing to go for it. After all, I trust a university hospital more than a random clinic in my small town.
  20. The Darwin Awards for 2023, South-East Asia edition, just added new nominees.
  21. ...some are, just like some Brits are beer-guzzling mongers, but not all of them.
  22. Please guys, create your own topic if you wanna discuss these matters. I don't care about your retirement, as I'm still working and will be working for the next 14-20 years at least.
  23. Yes, I have read it, and I qualify for the teacher licence according to this outdated list. In practice, however, I do NOT qualify because the graduate diploma in teaching I possess is no longer recognized. Basically, if that diploma wasn't acquired from a recognized shortlist (very short) of institutions, then the TCT does not recognize it. This leaves me with the only current viable route being the modules offered by the TCT themselves. If they don't dispatch any info about it, what am I supposed to do?
  24. Fyi, I have a temporary license. Just need to get qualified after 7 long years in Thailand already. It ain't the 90s anymore, I know. One can't just keep teaching in this country on waivers forever. And I know what you must be thinking: "why doesn't this guy just go back to his home country to study for an education degree?" Well, I can tell you that ain't worth it anymore. I'm in my 40s, living in a far-flung corner of Thailand with wife, house and cats and I ain't got no desire to completely uproot my life. I just wanna get enough done to get me that 5-year professional teachers license, and maybe, just maybe, I'll go for an MEd sometime in the future. Last year I completed a Filipino teacher course, but that diploma proved to be worth less than the paper it was printed on. Yeah, I got skills and I demonstrated them, but if Thai bureaucracy doesn't recognize them, then what's a man gotta do?? Money is not really driving me, more so living a quiet life and being the best teacher I can be for my students, you know what I'm saying? Therefore, I don't need any people's condescending me. Just advise me on the current TCT mess I - and many others - are in. Thanks bro.
  25. C'mon people, please answer my question. I am interested in doing the TCT modules for non-licensed teachers, in order to get a professional license. Who is in the same boat as me? There must be someone on AN who knows about it and has registered too. The payment deadline of August 30 is looming and the TCT is not responsive.
