  1. How many ways are there to spell a name? Peter/Petter, Walter/Ralter and Mack/Mach. They make for a total of 2^3=8 combinations. If you combine the fact his first name can be spelled with or without a dash, you get an even higher number of 2^4=16 different names. Fwiw, just my 2 cents.
  2. As someone living in the region, I can recommend a visit to the three southern border provinces. If only to experience a unique part of Thailand.
  3. I see a lot of 'solutions' being proposed here, but don't you think we should ask the locals what they want? Both Muslims and Buddhists of course. Do not repeat the mistake of 1909.
  4. Has UTP ever been anything but dead? And the local honchos keep talking crap about it becoming a third Bangkok gateway. Really? ????
  5. Living in Narathiwat, checkpoints are hardly a nuisance. You just lower your speed, but as a foreigner, you're rarely ever stopped by the soldiers, barely losing time on your travels.
  6. Alhamdulilah. May our brothers and sisters learn the language of the Holy Qur'an and further their education in Saudi Arabia or other Arab nations.
  7. The spirit or consciousness is the interaction of neurons, just like life is the interaction of chemical processes. I'm afraid there's not much more to it, though I wish and hope I can experience rebirth, somehow, somewhere.
  8. I did, but still nothing. No TCT icon, empty mailbox in the app, no mail received on my regular address. I'd like to hear about some more positive experiences from others.
  9. It's true that Chinese Thai names are often long, with syllables like 'wang', 'chong', 'butr' en 'silp' thrown into the mix. My friend is true hi-so Chinese Thai, with a last name that reflects his heritage: Prawongkanchanalinongphrasilp. Don't know why people would ever choose that name, but, hey, those funny Chinese.????
  10. I cannot see any app by the Teacher Council in the OnePlatform app . Only general information.
  11. I am happy to see the Prachachat Party being involved in the coalition-making process. It's really the only party for Malay Muslims and the one party that wishes for the Deep South to get full autonomy from the Bangkok-based regime. I believe MF will work together with Mr. Wan Noor to facilitate a transition to peace and subsequent autonomy. Only PT could be a problem, as I don't think they are democratic enough to accept decentralization and elected governors, for example. Hopefully, we in the Deep South will at least be able to live in a peaceful environment.
  12. I've never been there yet, but certainly looking to visit in the non-burning season.
  13. Phrae, Phayao, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Chanthaburi, Samut Songkhram, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Ranong, Phatthalung, Narathiwat, Betong, to name a few all over the country.
  14. Same thing at Narathiwat Airport, with direct flights to Jeddah and Hofuf. Huge crowds at the airport to see off or welcome their pilgrim relatives. Avoid the airport at all costs those days!
  15. Do you live among Muslims? I do, and I have never experienced any animosity, nor do I feel danger as a Christian. Only respect and understanding. All my friends are Malay Muslims and so are my colleagues. Please don't let your preconceptions cloud your judgment. Most Muslims wish to lead normal lives and do not desire acts of terror or forced conversions of non-believers or people of The Book (Christians and Jews). Sure, there are always extremists, but you can also find Christian, Buddhist, Zionist or Hindu extremists in lots of places.
  16. But how do you distinguish those from the 'good' ones? Most Islamic schools, pondoks and mosques teach and preach good values and not hatred.
  17. Freedom of religion and of education? That's something no one should want to abolish.
  18. True. My gf is a senior government official. For her to not vote, would be detrimental to her career. At the very least it would result in relocation to an undesirable province.
  19. Talking specifically about new TCT modules. I signed up before the end of March '23, but haven't heard anything yet. My fourth waiver will expire next year. I am not a licensed teacher, nor do I have an education degree. Getting a bit worried about my future in the LoS.
  20. If the military have the guts to ban the two leading anti-government parties or commit to a coup post-election, I predict a large percentage of the resilient Thai people will finally have had enough. The martyrs of the Revolution will surely drown in a river of their own blood at the Democracy Monument and the hearts of the nation will be opened and usher in a new era of prosperity.
