  1. Frankly, I am horrified (if not surprised) by the racist, xenophobic votes and posts here. We were all privileged to be born in well-off countries with world access, male, and English speakers. We've never had the threat of bombs dropping, levelling our houses, schools, and hospitals and drone attacks of our weddings and funerals.

Sure there may be a few fanatics among the refugees who perhaps could be revved up to become terrorists. But 99.999999999% are just people like you trying to make the best life for their families in a safe place.

Honestly, your lack of compassion for a problem our well-off countries, particularly the US, have created is appalling. If it were your family & community which was so threatened, you, too, would trek thousands of miles to safety. Show some respect for your fellow humans!

How come about 94% (-+3% from year to year) coming to Sweden do not have any kind of ID or anything else when it comes to documentation about who they are?

About half of all the colonizers now "resettling" into Sweden will not have any kind of employment after 1 decade in Sweden. Not surprising at all considering that you get more money through benifits than working a lower wage job. If you are really "lucky" you entire Sweden when you are 64 years old and "retire" the next year and get MORE pension than a swedish person who has worked for 45 years.

  2. I taught my wife how to operate the vehicles controls (meaning she could actually drive the vehicle from a - b on a private bit of land) but she went to a driving school in Korat to learn how to pass the driving test, wich she did and then when she was legal to drive on the open road I then taught her how to drive properly to my standards.

But it definitely helped having the driving school to get her through the test no matter what the pessimists say.

    HL

I did the so called "test" about a year ago in Ubon... to call it a "test" is an insult. It's harder to place correctly shaped round, square or triangle toy in the right "hole" as an 2 year old.

The "test" was basicly: stop about 20-30 cm from the curb, drive straight 5-7 meter between the curb and a line of cones, reverse the same thing, drive to a stop sign, wait for your turn to parallel park. Note that the parking area was like 15 meters long so you could fit a goddamn bus in it. Even so atleast one of the dumbasses failed in reversing into it.

  3. It's like someone already write: either you place a long chain of gun boats in the mediterranean that sink any and all vessels trying to enter Europe... ooorrrrrr.... you change it so that not a single person, not even if you have valid asylum reason (like 2% of them), will get a single cent in any kind of benefits until they are citizens of that nation and to be citizen of an european nation you have to have clean criminal record for 10 years straight, 8 years of taxed income and do a language and history test.

    And voila!

There would be about 600 refugess coming to Europe EACH YEAR.

  4. I would rather ask a random "khwai" on a random field for driving advice and lessons before asking any thai about any kind of advice how to operate any kind of vehicle incl. bicycle.

  5. Not a single person from... lets say Syria and Afghanistan is a real refugee. Every single of them has travelled through Europe (many safe countries) to get to Sweden (or Germany).

Reason is extremely simple: in Sweden a person that has a so called "asylum residence permit" will get enough money without any kind of effort to live a quite comfortable life. For instance a single mother with three children and an apartment will get more money (taxfree) and without effort into her bank account than a majority of the workers in Sweden (about 22 000 SEK net).

  6. The pickup ran over the guys shoulder not his head….it would have been crushed otherwise.

Samui is a <deleted> nightmare for pedestrians…I get the shits just driving a bike there.

The farang made one mistake…which is you always walk facing oncoming traffic not with your back turned to it.

Obviously you have either no idea that the part where a humans ear is located is actually on the head or you haven't seen the original video at Liveleak. If you have actually seen it on Liveleak... ask me and i'll give you a few good links where you can study the human anatomy and body parts.

  7. Enoon: and let's not forget the Franco-Ottoman alliance that lasted two and half centuries until Napoleon.

But maybe something good will actually come from this horrible terrorist attack on Paris... Schengen will actually be abolished and border checks will once again be reality for Europe. It's just absurd that anyone can basicly walk from southern tip of Portugal to northern most tip of Finland without anyone checking who the hell you are while passing borders.

  8. Coconut oil may help boost energy levels and endurance. It isn't stored in the body like other fats. It actually breaks down much quicker in the liver and is used like a carbohydrate. Athletes and bodybuilders often use it as a natural supplement in sports drinks and smoothies.

It can also give your metabolism a boost which, when used along with a healthy diet, could help with weight loss. Now the boost in energy you get from coconut isn't like the kick you get from caffeine, it's more subtle than that, but it's longer lasting. Unlike caffeine, the effects of the oil can last for many hours and you don't develop a dependence or addiction to it.

Who doesn't want a little more energy in their day, right? You can add a little to a cup of warm herbal tea, cocoa, juice, a smoothie, or oatmeal to boost your energy each morning.

You see, coconut goes straight to the liver and is used immediately as fuel and is not stored in the body as fat!!

    This is hilarious...

Even if that last sentence was true (which it isn't) the other stuff you eat, the so called "healthy food", would actually be stored as body fat. Only time bodybuilders for instance use coconut oil or "MCT oil" is when they are cutting to get leaner. And even then it's almost always a ketogenic diet as a bodybuilder and ketogenic diet as a bodybuilder is very rare. Almost all diets i have heard of for bodybuilders when they are cutting is about 50-70 grams of fat each day, not more.

You don't seem to understand that the human body uses whichever energy source it has that is the easiest and most effective as fuel for the body. If it happens to be MCT at a point it will use that first and store everything else as body fat. This is also the reason why ketogenic diet actually work as the body is forced to start using stored body fat as energy by producing ketones as a substitute for glucose.

  9. I then hope you don't eat anything and only drink water... because anything else will raise your blood sugar levels (you know, glycose).

Yes, it's not really as simple as "calories in and out" as there are different reactions in the body depending on what kind of calories you eat/drink but i guarantee you that anyone overeating "for a period of time" will gain fat on their body and anyone undereating "for a period of time" will lose fat from their body. To deny this is just bizarre.

You are well out of your depth I'm afraid.

It is more to do with what you are consuming and not necessarily how much.

If you eat 10g of HFCS and 10 g of coconut oil - which will cause weight gain? NB: one of the two will actually cause weight loss

I'm not even ankle "deep in water" yet.

Your coconut oil example is just bizarre... try drinking ONLY coconut oil and water for 3500-4000 kcal each and every day for 90 days and let's see how much weight you lose.

I can tell that you don't have a scientific mind!!

So either you know that the person would eventually get fatter even with coconut oil and refuse to admit it or you have no idea what you are on about. And of course, i should point out that the person drinking 3500-4000 kcal of coconut oil for 90 days only has about 2500 kcal caloric need a day.

Let's take a more "realistic" situation. Person X eats exactly like you say with "healthy foods". Caloric need is about 2500 kcal to maintain body weight. Each day, besides the "healthy food", person X also drinks 3000 kcal of coconut oil divided into three different times (breakfast, lunch, dinner). Are you actually saying that this person would not gain any bodyfat at all? That he might even lose weight because hey... it's coconut oil?

  10. The solution is in four words. Eat less, move more. Getting this implemented is a completely other matter.

    Way too simple minded.

You can eat more, much more of HEALTH PROMOTING foods. Such as fresh vegetables.

Simple minded? What absolute garbage you sprout. All food contain calories. Your body is like your bank account. If you put in more than you take out your balance (weight) increases. Stop talking about things you know nothing of.

You have to understand... on this forum there are superhumans that defy any and all laws of energy because they "tell" their body so. So in their mind a product with zero calories magically turns into calories and eating "vegetables" is actually zero calories.

  11. From the CBC news

"Artificial sweeteners may exacerbate, rather than prevent, metabolic disorders such as Type 2 diabetes, a study suggests.

Calorie-free artificial sweeteners are often chosen by dieters in part because they are thought not to raise blood sugar levels.

In Wednesday’s issue of the journal Nature, researchers report that artificial sweeteners increase the blood sugar levels in both mice and humans by interfering with microbes in the gut. Increased blood sugar levels are an early indicator of Type 2 diabetes and metabolic disease".

Artificial sweeteners may set the stage for diabetes in some people by hampering how their bodies handle sugar, scientists say. (Sam Hodgson/Reuters)

The increase in consumption of artificial sweeteners coincides with the obesity and diabetes epidemics

and from the Scientific American journal

"Last year, though, a team of Israeli scientists put together a stronger case. The researchers concluded from studies of mice that ingesting artificial sweeteners might lead to—of all things—obesity and related ailments such as diabetes. This study was not the first to note this link in animals, but it was the first to find evidence of a plausible cause: the sweeteners appear to change the population of intestinal bacteria that direct metabolism, the conversion of food to energy or stored fuel. And this result suggests the connection might also exist in humans".

It isn't simply the balance of calories in calories out!! There are trillions of chemical reactions going on in the body at any given time.

I could quote 100's of tests and studies that point to the same thing - I even went as far as explaining this in an earlier post.

Wrong again! certain substances such as turmeric, cinnamon, chromium picolinate, bitter melon extract (gourd) are very effective at reducing your blood sugar level.

I know this because I was pre-diabetic at one time and turned it around in 2 weeks. I also, gave some advice to 2 friends who became diabetic within weeks of each other (they were diagnosed as being so) and easily reversed their diabetes type 2 in less than a month. Considering that so called diabetes experts and doctors claim it to be irreversible it just shows how much they know. Now, if they claimed that it was irreversible treating it with conventional drugs like Metformin then they have a valid point!!

Your link was about INCREASE in blood sugar, nothing about decreasing it. Stop trying to mix apples and trains here just to try to "prove" your zealot view.

  14. The most bang for the BAHT in combating the global obesity epidemic which now includes Thailand is to PREVENT children from becoming obese in the first place. Sure exercise is important for that, but the general scientific consensus now is that what we EAT is much more important. Once children become obese, based on current medical tactics for weight loss, it is known the vast majority will become obese adults and have a lifetime struggle. In other words, even when they lose weight, they will probably gain it back, and more, again and again.

In my opinion prevention of obesity in children should be a top priority for the government here. But I'd say that about most countries now. But Thailand with it's sugar madness is especially vulnerable of a continued rapid increase in obesity.

"The government" (any in the world) doesn't give jack shit about the you, your children or the people. The only function and need "the government" has is to preserve it's own power and expanding it. To rely on "the government" for anything is absurd and naive at the same time.

Only way to prevent obesity in children is to make sure that parents are informed about general nutrition.

It does when it has to foot the bill for obesity or diabetes. There is a cost to society in having a populous that is fit or unfit.

No it doesn't, it's the people who foot the bill for obesity and diabetes, not "the government".

  16. Milk, unsweetened green tea, Gatorade, water, diet drinks...

Gatorade has about the same sugar content as the soft drinks though.

Coke light and Coke zero are the two choices for the people like me who wants something sweet to drink but are constantly fretting about calorie intake.

    Wrong my friend!!

Zero and light drinks cause more obesity than sugar - don't believe me, then check the literature from independent scientists and health officials (not the drink producers though as they are manipulative liars).

If you are going to live unhealthily then don't deceive yourself by taking the zero calorie route.

I know someone who drinks several cans of pepsi max/diet coke everyday for the last decade. Still as fat as ever.

Personally I'm cutting down one sugar and carbohydrates in general, especially in the evenings an tending towards a paleo diet now - mostly fish / meats + vegetables and some fruit.

So what if someone has drank diet coke several decades and is still fat, it doesn't prove anything at all. It only means that he/she is still eating more calories than he/she burns or that he/she did before eat way too many calories, got fat, and now is eating at his/her "maintenance level".

  17. Don't get fooled by that.

Sugar free versions are worse than sugar containing and increase obesity rates - in particular, those containing Splenda, Aspartame, ACE-K, Neotame and Saccharin. Not only do they cause neuro-generative disease but they can cause cancer. Having said that, sugar is the leading cause of cancer and feeds the cancer once you have been afflicted by it.

So you are saying that the human body just ignores the laws of physics and magically turn 0 calories into "very high calories"?

No, that is not what he's saying.

Don't assume it's only about calories.

Because science is way beyond that simplistic thinking.

I'm not an oncologist but i do remember something about cancer feeding on carbohydrates (or well, the breakdown of it).
