  1. Wanted to go and check out Chiang Mai for so long. Looks like a very cool place. I often here the traffic etc compared to Bangkok. Is it really that bad? I hate that sort of scene particularly getting close to Bangkok with all the flyovers, turnoffs etc not to mention the traffic jams and traffic in the city. Is it anything like that in CM? Is it possible to park in the city? Can someone paint me a bit of a picture? Other question best time of year to come re pollution. Definitely don't want to be there in the burning season. Appreciate any info thanks.
  2. I definitely like to keep my vehicles serviced....and air on the side of caution. You say manual gearbox oil every 100,000k's? These guys are hitting me up for a gearbox / 4wd transfer oil change every 10,000k's. I think the cost of the gear oil alone 1500 baht
  3. Recently got a new TV and was delighted to see it connected automatically to the surround system with a HDMI cable using ARC, so the surround sound automatically came on with the TV, can adjust surround volume with TV remote etc. Was ok for about a month then out of the blue not connecting. All of the connection settings on the TV are o and set to ARC auto. I can see the HDMI is connected on the TV but according to the TV when troubleshooting the Surround sound is connected but turned off. I have tried three different HDMI cables including the one we got with the new Samsung TV. So what i want to do is go and look if anything had changed on the set up of the surround system but to do anything like that need to view the setup menu on a screen. TV no go so I plugged the HDMI cable from the sound system to my notebook but still not seeing the surround sound menu screen on my PC. Do I have to go and tell the computer to open a special screen for the HDMI input or something? I see plenty of videos on how I can connect my PC and view the PC screen on a TV but nothing about viewing a third party (surround sound) display on my PC? Any help appreciated.
  4. 2014 Dmax 4WD pick up....just nearing 120,000 km. Always had regular 10k services since new. Just wondering if that's still necesary? I am a great believer in regular service and oil changes but on the other hand could do without the 4000-6000 baht charge every 10000ks. I am sure the gearbox oil doesn't need changing that regularly. What does everyone else do with a vehicle around this age or what is the norm
  5. Oh damn. Nice guy and always helpful and straight forward. RIP buddy
  6. Will do. Still a bit skeptical as I know I was looking for a 14v supply some time ago and you just couldn't use one of the light electronic power supplies. I forget why but it had to be a copper wound job and they are expensive these days. Anyway, can't beat all those reviews. If it is ok I will turn around and buy the 9-24v also. I have quite a bit of vintage sound and vision gear and many have odd voltages. Thanks again my friend ????
  7. Thanks for your help mate. Just ordered one. Incredibly cheap under 200 baht too. And locally from Bangkok too. have 300+ positive reviews so it should be ok. I don't know how you found it. I searched Lazada high and low thins morning...Thai and English...but thanks a bunch. I just went back to check because usually these cheaper power supplies are AC secondary (not DC) and the DC ones usually wire wound and much more expensive. It is DC so happy days ????
  8. It wont work. The unit has its own internal smarts / electronics inside. Comes up with an error message and shuts down...over volt
  9. Struggling to find an 8volt 5 amp DC power adapter cheaply. There are plenty of 12 volt ones around Would it be safe to put a cheap component like a resistor or something on the DC side to reduce the voltage? I assume in series on the positive lead? (or parallel across + -) At 5 amps it is a reasonable amount of power so don't want anything to heat up too much or be a safety risk. Powering a LED panel video light so close to 8 volt should be ok. The unit has an 8 volt input socket for a power adapter
  10. I don't know if you seen the Netflix doco but yeah he lost heaps....his role in one of the biggest movie franchises ever (Pirates) for a start and many other potential loss of earnings. And what about the money and trauma in the years leading up to and during the trial. The man deserves a medal in my book. he put integrity and honor before all else. By the way technically and morally he won the case against Amber Heard......but lost the libel case against the Sun newspaper who was the organization that published her original story in the first place. I don't think anyone really "wins" these sort of cases financially or otherwise. All he did was defend himself. The damage was already done. I lived with a very similar type of women here in my early days of Thailand. I never laid a hand on her in 3 years but should have. This women just used to regularly lose her shet. Would go on for 3 days sometimes. After she would say she got a "short" in her brain. I can remember a night I had my baby son in my arms, my arms up protecting him and myself from her blows when she blanked out. the next morning I caught her in the bathroom taking selfies of the bruises on her forearms where her flailing blows hit my arms held up to protect me and my son. Truly disgusting person....In the end she got on a bus and left....and wanted to return the next day. I refused to let her. I was left with a 3 month old baby. She then went and intentionally contacted / befriended anyone in our estate and told them the reason she didn't take the baby with her was because I had basically abducted him and refused her access to him...as if in Thailand. The most ridiculous thing was that even though I did the right thing and stuck by / raised my son on my own...they seemed to believe her and being Thailand and me not speaking the language I was unable to defend myself. They didn't know she had also abandoned 3 other children to different fathers (nor did I until 2 years into the relationship). Not that I cared what others think but made us living there pretty uncomfortable. A couple of years after she broke into my house while I was out and demanded I come and meet her. I told her 6 times to leave peaceably and in the end had no choice but to contact the police. Next minute I am down the police station defending myself against her allegations and told by the cop I need to pay her 500k to remove her lol. She told him I had tried to strangle her that morning....I hadn't physically been within 5km of her for 2 years. At that point I got a lawyer involved and the police told her to leave my house and never come back. And what I have described probably the nicer events. She still haunts us in different ways 8 years later. Was cringeworthy for me watching the Amber Heard trial because I had lived through much of the same myself. Seems to be the MO of some women here to keep a checklist of perceived slights against them as some sort of blackmail that you wont leave them and more important to cover themselves from loss of face back home when yet another of their relationships inevitably fails. I said to one women why don't you try and just be a nicer person, contribute to the relationship a little more rather than all the a$$ covering games to cover yourself. Half of their movies, drama shows and music dedicated to the same subject
  11. Very very well said, never heard it quite articulated like that but so true. I been over most of the world and never seen a bigger group of misfits and oddballs than I have here in Thailand, possibly myself included. Areas like Pattaya are generally human cesspits. And I am not talking about the Thai's. At the same time condescending and self righteous, particularly AN users.
  12. Seems more and more these days these woke groups or women can call misogyny, abuse etc and the guy is immediately guilty and in many cases has his career, reputation or both instantly destroyed without investigation. Good on Johnny Depp for standing up to that vile cow even though it cost him millions and destroyed his career. Always that shadow of doubt even though he was clearly the abused during the trial. Known a few here try it on. Mainly a face saving move to cover their embarrassment of yet another failed relationship. Plaster stuff all over FB accusing you of the very things they did lol. And should you retort in anyway even meekly a threat to call Police or they actually do. It will all turn around...always does. Hope it's sooner than later. Makes me sick
  13. I tried taxis 45 years ago. Few blokes told me good money to be made. Pushed on for a couple of months working it all out making very ordinary money. Finally cracked a few days cab full all day and result still under basic wage. Apart from that I hate driving
  14. So only for medical use but going to control.retail outlets lol. So what will the retail be selling ???????? Insult to a persons intelligence reading the news in Thailand
  15. I always thought Bunnings would be a cruisy gig if you weren't after big bucks. I remember it was the retirees go to, particularly a lot of the older guys who lost their retirement plan on the stock market with various recessions. Does it pay a livable single wage? Do they still recruit seniors?
  16. I think whether you are on the old age pension or not a moot point. The point is you have to be a resident of Australia for 2 years before receiving portability, not on the pension for 2 years. So say your qualifying age is 67yo. You go back at 65 and get a job as a bus driver. The day you turn 67yo you can apply for the OAP then should get automatic portability and back to Thailand the next week (I think). Or alternatively you could return at 67yo....go straight on the OAP or not....instead get a job....either way you still need o stay in Australia for the 2 years before you can come back to Thailand with your OAP
  17. Did he list any of her health service qualifications apart from helping him in election campaigns? You couldn't make this stuff up ????????????????
  18. I love Thailand and Thais but the above true for not all, but many. Particularly the under 35s. But that could apply all over the world these days with "samart phones" making people dumb. Let me add to your list... illogical, irrational thinking, an inability to use any cognitive reasoning and a tendency to start tasks in the middle or end, finishing (or usually not finishing) at the start ????
  19. It lol? I take 2...3 if I am really crook. Get well soon old mate ☺
  20. Me, missus and 2 kids been sick for 3 weeks. Same as you said...scratchy throat first day or so....then a bad cough but little congestion....very high fever lasts one night or so....aching joints and generally feeling like you been hit ny a truck. I always seem to get a couple of doses of any flus etc in Thailand but Mrs and one of the kids on their second round and reckon they are worse than the first dose. Other kid on his 3rd run. I got it the once and trying to stay out the way of them but hard when you are all in a small air con room watching TV. Thais in particular, or any Thais I have lived with are very careless re not spreading it around, sharing utensils. Really hard when you have school age kids breaking the cycle and not keep reinfecting each other. And same remedy....Tiffy. It is a wonderful flu pill and have some really wonderful dreams / nightmares taking it before bed lol
  21. "Tax resident" and their definition of same may be the key here. I would assume something they are doing to combat offshore laundering? If they are simply going to tax pensions or people transferring money over here I will be out of here in 6 months. Surely even Thailand wouldn't have the audacity to do that. Must be looking for extra $$$ to fund there 10000 baht per person election promise / giveaway
  22. That's like a question a 5yo would ask their mum? Or are u lonely and seeking a conversation? I seriously wonder how some of u survived past puberty let alone can live in a foreign country.
  23. It just occured to me, I been separated and out of contact with my Australian wife for 10 years. I might even have a separation cert dating back to then when we did property settlement, but neither of us officially divorced. A quick check of my immigration movements would show I been out of the country 10 years and she wasn't. Will thus effect Centrelink / pension payments in anyway if we are not divorced? I know some guys married to Thai women here and even thought the woman is penniless and doesn't work, they are on a married pension with a significant reduction
  24. So say you go back for the two years home detention....given that when you can't go back you can't check or ask questions re portability... lest you give the game away and admit you are only back 2 years so you can move back to Thailand with your pension. How can you guarantee after the two years that you will qualify for portability. Unless you got a job and even maybe then, the cost of living in Australia for 2 years and supporting a family here , not to mention the waste of time....would be an enormous loss for nothing. Any stories of people getting pipped at the post? Or providing you keep your nose clean, play all by the rules and everything should be ok?
  25. I wonder how if paid direct into the bank how they exchange? I guess CL would transfer AUS$ currency and then exchanged at the banks TT rate (not the advertised rate). You could knock another 2000 baht off the 46k I guess
