  1. Planning a trip through Loei up to Chiang Kahn later this month and apart from scenery / sightseeing areas on the way, is there anything worthwhile to see in the actual township of Loei? Was planning a day having a look around but if it is the same as every other Isaan town probably give it a miss. Is it a spread out or compact (walk around) city...Any decent restaurants etc? Appreciate any info
  2. Probably the most realistic reply yet. Remember in Thailand when people are requesting money or anything you are uncomfortable with aka trips etc...it is ok to say no. If she is an Isaan girl it seems love / money / sex are all part of the mixed up deal. Its just seems to be the way it is here. Wealth transferral...yours to hers. Not to say she's a bad person. You just got to draw a line in the sand and she will either accept it or she won't. Certainly don't make a doormat of yourself though. It becomes a never ending money pit with no end. By all means go to the country with her if you want. Doesn't mean you have to shower her family in money. They will only think u stupid if u do anyway. Lay down the ground rules before u go. She should be protecting you from money grubbers, not throwing u to the wolves. Would suggest you stay in a hotel by the way if one near. Give u a breather at night not to mention air con. Best of luck
  3. Yes I did but let it go lol. And it's never a good look ????
  4. Google buffalo attacks / deaths in Thailand. Facts are facts. They normally are shy and docile but there are exceptions. Mainly adolescent hormonal males. If the animal is displaying aggression and the guy senses danger...don't go back. Its common sense. Water buffalo in Africa are a very aggressive, smart and formidable animal responsible for many deaths
  5. Sounds strange. I would say an informal visit to see if you were working in the business. Maybe one of your local competition fingered you. Difficult situation when the shove papers (in Thai) in front of u and demand ur signature. You don't want to incur their wrath and start a dick swinging contest u won't win but u also don't want to incriminate urself. I've noticed older Thais, particularly police don't seem to have much regard for westerners. Was talking to an older cop once and wife said later he was referring to me as "money man" in a derogatory way.
  6. Wow, that's a game changer then. Only problem is when I do the yearly parental visa often takes 6 weeks + for approval and will need to be there in person to get my passport stamped. A brief one or two week visit ok but doubt I could do more than that. Other option I guess pay an agent to do it for me when the time ticks around. Hopefully they can do it without the actual passport and only copies to submit
  7. It is possible, and do 90 days online....but its also quite possible they will see at some point you are stamped as out of the country. And you need put that info and latest entry stamp on your 90 days and application. It may not matter? Not sure on what the rules are re having a yearly visa and being out of the country 95% of that year
  8. Probably a dumb question...been on a parent visa for 5 years. Was a real pain to get the first one...many trips to immigration with sponsors from our moo baan, photos with people from our moo baan. Was quite awkward because we dont really know anyone here and asking strangers to sign stuff, pose for photos in my home etc. After the initial one piece of cake every year. Anyway, quite possible I will have to go back home for a year or two. Is there anyway you can keep your visa going or if I let it lapse and come back a couple of years later, still living in the same house...will they make me do all the original run around again? The parental visa is virtually the same as marry visa. Just wondering if anyone had a similar experience
  9. I think Kieth Richards would be the first to admit they were totally influenced by American blues. I wouldn't say ripped off though as their end product is much different. The Stones in particularly did a lot for the old school black blues guys and brought their music to a wider audience, not to mention a much better pay packet. Much of what is written in that article total rubbish. Rock and roll definitely originated in the US but only became mainstream when the white Americans also copied from Afro.Americans lol. A softened down white version. So for white Americans or Brits claiming one stole the others music is ludicrous. Thank god all.artists are influenced by those who came before and create something completely fresh ????
  10. I think you can liken it to a pit bull / Rottweiler. Are they generally aggressive? No....are they capable of real damage yes...If one is displaying aggression towards you....run Forrest run and don't go back. In the case of a Thai water Buffalo and the damage it can inflict. Multiply x 20. As for a person outrunning one....You would have to be a black Olympian and then some.... Weighing around 400 to 900 kilograms, water buffalo have been stereotyped as slow and lumbering beasts. Perhaps that’s true in the fields but you will be surprised – and terrified – at the beasts’ terrific speed but poor sense of direction at Chon Buri Buffalo Racing Festival.
  11. Buffalos can be aggressive and are what must be a 600km + ball of armor muscles and horns. There are many recorded attacks and deaths in Thailand. On foot and unprotected would be very unwise to go near it again.
  12. My wife had a restaurant and things seemed to get worse about 6 months AFTER covid. Covid period was slower but ok. And most of her customers were educated middle income people with stable jobs. I couldn't work it out as their income probably still the same. But after thought I realized many of these people in debt up to their necks and what little disposable income they had every month would be eaten up by inflation....particularly electricity and fuel rising so much not to mention everything else. I guess would be a similar situation all over the world though I doubt household debt would be as extreme here. What is annoying though are the completely polar opposite headlines in the news. One side....obviously various departments responsible for economics here talking themselves up with what they claim is going to happen by the end of the year....and then there are the factual reports which are the complete opposite.
  13. Would be impossible to understand the real economic position of Thailand. Stories of tourism, exports etc going gangbusters then the next story you read the opposite. I live North East Thailand and have seen whole streets that used to be lined with businesses and restaurants now nearly all shut. With domestic borrowings at near 90% GDP, I'm surprised how the country continues on. Other countries ring alarm bells at 60%
  14. Best to measure your head for a helmet. As the other guy said all manfacturers will have a different idea of sizes like XL, XXL etc. But they should have a measurement in cm, 57, 58 etc. Google about measuring your head for a helmet, you won't go wrong
  15. I saw some comments in another post about CBD oil and information was a bit unclear on what strength (milligrams?) you need to order for a good night sleep. I have heard people say you put one drop on your tongue before bed. There were also comments that it was available on Lazada. Can anyone point me in the right direction and maybe some more info on a good brand / strength? There is a little weed shop / kiosk near home I was wondering if those sort of shops sell it
  16. Firstly have a clinical reason for needing a pill. Please....no motherly advice like change diet, get some exercise or some herbal thing Melatonin not effective For my wife actually. She is on a particular medication that keeps her awake She did tell the doctor and she sent her home with about 10 packets of highly addictive Benzo's (Valium) with no instruction apart from you can take up to 4 a day. Can anyone recommend a good over the counter, general sleeping pill? Nothing too heavy. One that wont knock you around too much the next day Generally the Thais take the little cheap allergy pills and they knock you out for sure But feel rough as guts the next day. Any help appreciated
  17. Weighing up a few options ATM whether to move back to Australia permanently or go and do the 2 year stint of living there so I can bring my pension over here. I am a ways off atm...my pension age is 67 yo so I would move back at 65, wait out the 2 years and come back at 67yo, hopefully with pension available to me living in Thailand. Just wondering what my options are in those 2 years leading up to receiving the pension. It would seem unlikely I would find work at 65yo. Is the dole a livable allowance and would it in fact be available to me? I am quite happy to live modestly for a couple of years. I have money in the bank but will have a family here in Thailand to support while I am away so the less I need to draw from savings the better position I will be able to leave them in when I eventually croak. Anyone have any insights, experience or suggestions?
  18. Been looking at these for a while. Are they any better than the glass turbo ovens? We're family of 4...they dont look big enough for say a big batch of chicken wings
  19. Mrs planning on selling second hand stuff online and apparently big border market selling used foreign goods this area As per Thailand she will go off half cocked lol and waste a 6 hour round trip. She will probably only have one day in the area. Just trying to find out a little more info for her re: is there more than one market and which is the best one to go to? Is there any day better than others to go ideally good selection of stock and not too busy I hear weekends very busy Would appreciate any info if anyone has any insights
  20. Haven't transferred any money here (from Australia) for a couple of years but before used wise and found them excellent. Seen quite a few grumbles and problems pop up in the forums, though never really read them. Are they still ok and reliable? Transferring money from Australia to Thailand Any help appreciated
  21. Been here about 4 years now and used Lazada extensively as I live up country and many things either too expensive or just not available. Generally up until 6 months ago had good experience with them. Last 3 transactions have gone pear shaped big time. I ordered some scooter tyres, really good price. Seller appeared to be reputable etc. Waited a week no show. Waited a few more days and contacted Lazada. Best response wait a few more days. Went on and on and they finally called the seller themselves and admitted they were not answering the phone or responding. The credit process started which turned out to be a series of robotic replies. Long story short took me about 6 weeks to finally get my money back. The worst thing was the same seller was still advertising their products on Lazada! They had done nothing. My whole experience with Lazada was they didn't really care too much. Recently bought 2 watches from different (Local Thai) Lazada sellers. Not huge money...about 2500 baht a piece, not ridiculously cheap but about 35% off retail and cheaper than other online sellers. Cheap enough to be believable. Just started the return process with both as both watches (Casio G shock) are fakes. I expect a similar ridiculous wait to have my money returned. The Lazada system asked me to do a review of my purchases which was pretty straight forward...watches are counterfeit. System not accept 5555, so I couldn't even do a negative review. I mean I know SE Asia is the king of copy, and thats fine. I've bought copy watches myself and most are excellent quality. But I knew what I was buying and the price was matched to the product. Selling counterfeit as the real deal in my book a whole different kettle of fish. Anyone else had similar experiences with Lazada lately?
  22. Paying anywhere between 190 - 250 baht for these. Just wondering if anyone has found better option? Maybe buying online or from a hospital? Any help appreciated
  23. I'm in Chaiyaphum and getting jack of this 40 degrees everyday and 34 degrees 8.00pm at night. I can't seem to clarify if the wet is supposed to start after Songkrahn or September. Wife keeps saying next week. The forecasts here are never right. I'm using accuweather which seems to be some cruel play on words.
  24. Ok guys. Off to KK with the missus tomorrow. Anyone know a good clean budget hotel in central KK? Also somewhere for a nice steak and a good farang breakfast. Anything else worth seeing their? Hear there's a good market.
