  1. Gaslighting again... I have not admited to being over - I admit that after running the calculations yesterday its 'possible' I may have been over in the past when driving after a couple of beers. And yes, I help out my friends... that comes at the cost of compromise.. It seems given a similar option you'd tell your 'friends' (if you have any) to take a hike... so.. 'that moral compass'... I'm secure enough to admit that my morality is far from solid, though the stench of your true nature remains evident.
  2. It is. I know people who have both. They've had no advantage over me anytime or any where. Where do you think there is added convenience? Numerous occasions - mentioned plenty of times on various threads... I've made my statemet which I do not need to justify in this thread, my comments have been made in plenty of other threads on this subject. My comment will get deleted if go deeper into this as Jack has made it clear this thread is not about the usefulness.
  3. I have to admit to not fully understanding the risks, but I understand the concern... But , I also consider the response to walk out of the store because the phone had been connected to the 'store WiFi' to be an over-reaction. What concens me more - is using QR codes for charging EV charging stations... I'm thinking of getting a separate phone just for EV use (charging station Apps) so I dont have to use QR codes on the same device my banking etc is on - Different topic of course. My point above: Is there truly a risk to the 'digitial integrity of the phone' becasue an iStudio employee checked the WiFi function of the phone (in Thai) ???
  4. Numerous reasons... 1) Some countries I travel to have no agreements with True 2) Roaming charges to 'some' of the countries I travel to (i.e. middle east) are extortionate 3) I use a lot of data - so it runs out quickly - thus connecting to WiFi resolves this issue 4) I connect to WiFi quite a lot. BUT.. based on your comment - am I correct in drawing the assumption that you only ever connect to your home WiFi network or rely on your mobile data ?
  5. I would appear as though it was the individual than the story policy... There is no logical reason for them not to allow you to 'check the phone' yourself in English. Doing so in Thai, as you pointed out is not helpful to you but this is the logic. In Internatoinal Companies over here I've had IT guys set up my computer (windows) all in Thai... there was a complete logic disconnect that the installation needed to be in English !!... so I think the critical thought standards of some of these 'tech folk' is somewhat absent. Exactly... it kind of makes a mokery of 'testing' the item. Its also a true indication of the standards of customer service here... While many people rave about high customer service here because a waitress smiles at them etc... the true litmus test is when something goes wrong... There is a gulf in standards between various different companies - its the same in the car industry here, as it is in the tech industry... I've found myself very pleasantly surprised at times when I was expecting the run around. I've also found myself incredibly frustraited at times when expecting a simple response.
  6. Risk of what exactly... perhaps thats my lack of knowledge - so pls explain what risk there is to a new device ? You can go back to a factory re-set after you know everything is functional. Additionally, once you have set up your phone, are you not going to be connecting to various different WiFi networks anyway ? in hotels etc when travelling ? Also, I thought the risk with 'public WiFi systems' or 'unknown WiFi' systems is when you are actively using 'banking Apps etc' over that network which 'could' then become intercepted.
  7. Part of this seems logical... the latter part seems madness.... Also... The store 'screwed up'... What they usually do is take payment, then open and check the item. This happened to me with an iPad... I purchased the iPad (paid for it and expected to walk straight out with it), the staff wanted to opened it and check it was 'working' etc... no issues there, they connected it to the internet confirming the WiFi was working.. no issues there again... all ok. BUT.. I did ask, what would have happened if there was a fault ?... They said they'd have to sent it to Apple for fixing. I asked, in such a senario would they issue me with another iPad ?... No !!! - that was the one I purchased !! So... as I understand it - when they open the iPad (or iPhone or other product) to check that it is working - it does not mean they will immediately issue you with a 'new one' if it has a fault. THUS: what I would do in future, is to get them to open and check it first and take your course of action and walk out if there is a fault. BUT, I also see your walking out just becasue they'd connected the iPhone to their WiFi as somewhat of an over-reaction, I don't see any security risk there. ---------- Slightly separately - the last couple of apple items I have purchased (iPad for Wife and Son and Macbook for me) - I purchased through the AppleStore and they were delivered directly to my home... So if they were faulty, I'd have had to send them to Apple anyway, so iStudio as an authorised 'reseller' is just doing the same... (at least I think thats the term - Authorised reseller).
  8. Its a 'Thailand think' or rather... its a 'thing' that occurs here becasue the 'warranty' issue is so longwinded... Its not like the West where we can simply return an item for any reason with xx days etc.... We just had failire of part of an item... (battery charger)... we we're asked to send the whole product back, rather than just the faulty charger part... we were told it was going to take months, it was easier just to separately buy a new charger !!
  9. When you have issues with one or two people it might be them. When you have issues with many it is really time to take a good hard look at yourself. And when you can't read.... No personal issues - except with those who brag about drink driving... If that happens to be a lot of people, then so be it - that has little to do with any distorion of my moral compass but plenty to do with my disliking of scum.
  10. There is no personal agenda with you Ralf… just seeking clarity on your comments.
  11. So you are unable to be clear - you won’t clarify whether you drink drive or not. You won’t clarify if you drive after 10-12 beers or not. You are being deliberately vague when the subject of the op is specifically about drunk / drink driving which leaves the reader of your comment open to make their own interpretation because of the clarity you have failed to offer. Do you [Ralf] drive after more than 2 beers ? 4 beers ? 10-12 beers ?
  12. I've never missed having one. That's the point. How could it add convenience if I've never been in a situation where having either would have been more convenient? If you've never had one, knowing whether or not the card could add a layer of conveneince to your life is something you'd never know.
  13. There's a difference between needing something, as in, you can't do without it (i.e. a passport) and something adding a layer of convenience.... i.e. the Yellow house book and Pink ID - both add convenience.
  14. where did you say you didnt ?
  15. Yes, but you self assessed that you were fine to go and you got home no problem The rate they set is way too low. Arguable and moot... over the limit is over the limit. In my case, I've had two beers and drive (2x 330ml cans - usually anywhere between 3.5 and 5% ABV)... I recall going to a bar with the wife - the BiB were there as part of a DUI education exercise, it was a bit of fun and we could test ourselves on the breathalysers - I'd had 2 beers and was still under the limit... but 3 or 4 hours later on, when I'd drunk a lot more and and merrily pished up I was well over the limit (3 or 4x if I recall correctly)... I understand the point you made earlier on in the thread that the 'limit is set on based on the lowest common denominator'... BUT, its still A BAC level, and if your metabolism is higher and your body breaks down alcohol more quickly, then you will not be over the limit after 2 beers in an hour etc... The 'rate they set' is based on scientific fact followed by governments world wide... If you are over the DUI limit, you are impaired, whatever your body size and tollerance of alcohol. I have a Thai mate who states he can drive well while drunk because he is so familiar with driving while drunk.... his opinion is equally as flawed as yours. Impared is imparied - you are arguing that as you are aware you are impared you take extra caution which is a non-sequitur becasue you are already impaired !!!
  16. They were incorrect due to 'the terminology' on the back of the licence when it has been acquired using the Pink ID. The staff at the DLT have lazily taken on their interpretation of that terminoloty which when translated states: Restrictions / Restrictions in case of driving outside of the area, use it together with the permit to leave the area. This is due the Pink ID also having limitations on travel for those without an 'alien ID card' [ a Passport ]. In this case the 'permit to leave the area' is your passport - thus, there is no area restriction on your Thai Driving licence if acquired using the Pink ID, when accompanied with your Passport the Thai Driving Licence is a 'natoinwide licence'...
  17. A lot of such issues depend on whether your bank account is was opened using your Yellow House Book and Pink ID as ID, or if your account is linked to the number on your pink ID. IF you opened your bank account with your passport, you cannot use your Pink ID when accessing that account (oddly, 'sometimes' even when making a deposit - but that varies from teller to teller). I have 3 Thai Bank accounts with different Banks. 2 of them opened with a Pink ID - I never have an issue using that Pink ID to carry out transactoins. However, the other account was opened only with my Passport (25 years ago) - thus only my passport is accepted when carrying out a transaction at this bank.
  18. Someone who speaks / reads Thai could possibly best answer what it states on the back of the card,... but from what I can understand , the card IS valid outside the issuing area if one has additional identification to accompany the card (where I suspect a valid Visa in one's passport would suffice in that case - or possibly just an image of one's passport and visa on one's smartphone). I've never put that to the test. When going out of province, I take my passport. I find the Pink-ID most helpful in different areas. This has been a long running debate with the 'terms' inaccurately quoted by those who for some reason are against the Pink ID. The comment is often made that 'if someone carries a pink ID they cannot leave the area of issue'.... which is incorrect, as the additional wording states: "except for those with holding alien identification card or those who have received written permission". In this context an 'alien identification card' is your Passport - there is no limation on travel. There is no apparent limitation on the validity of the Pink Card outside of the area of issue if you also carry 'alein ID'.
  19. To be honest... If the marketing said... 620kms... but real world range of 450kms with AC on at motorway speeds etc... I'd find that more 'honest'... but I also get the point made about ICE consumption also being somewhat of a marketing fiddle. I also wholly agree that for the 'average driver' a range if 450kms is hardly needed... then there is the psychological aspect of allowing the battery to drop below say 30%, while in an ICE we have no issues driving on fumes !!! - its a different mental space until we get used to it. On a recent road trip we stopped off for an ice-cream and had a 15 min charge (which added about 30% think)... then on another day we stopped off for lunch and topped up from about 50% to 99% in about 30mins (with an 88 kWh batter) I've just looked and the WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) range is 500 kms... (so thats closer to to reality than the manufacture marketing). IMO - anothing more than 100 kms for our daily use is a non-issue anyway... but that doesn't get us very far on road trips so is nice to know we have a real world range of about 450 kms (from my own experience). Lots of good info from KhunLA on EV's helped my decision to get one - although his overwhelming hardon for MG is sometimes amusing.
  20. Does anyone else find the advertised ranges utter rubbish compared to real world experience ? Example at hand... ... Quoted (max) range 620kms... while I guess is a perfect world - not stop, flat road. ... Real world range (as per display) - I've never seen more than 480kms that probably has a lot to do with the AC being on etc... but still, thats a huge difference between marketing and reality. OR... are the quoted ranges measured on a 'rolling road' with no wind resistance etc ?
  21. Where in my post was I justifying drink driving after 10-12 beers ? Often you read into what is not written... to pander to your own deranged thought process and ideals. So, you were not clear... 10-12 beers or more, getting blasted etc is no issues whatsoever (if still behaviing)... IMO its good to twist off and have fun.... But, do you drive after drinking a number of beers ??? (i.e. more than 4 over a few hours) ? If not apologies... but if so...
  22. An extremely valid point... There are numerous additional real dangers here... A lot of people have poor night time vision, which worsens as they age. A lot of vehicles have window tint that is too dark. A lot of vehicles have poor or unchanged windscreen wipers such that visibility in the rain is poor, this is exacerbated at night. Then there are the complete abhorrent asswipes who drink drive and beleive they are ok to do so... then there are others who take to the next level and geuinely believe they are in sound state of mind to assess themselves after 10 or 12 beers... When called out, they make the excuse that our scorn may be unfairly passed as they did not state a time limit as if that somehow justfies or makes their drunk driving after 10-12 beer session any safer.
  23. Your implicaition here is that no one should find disagreement or conflict with someone who drives regularly after 10-12 beers and brags about it... The conflict is with you because of your comments, your attitudes, your confessed behavior - I haven't imagined the sceario where 'you brag about drinking 10-12 beers and drive'... thats a direct quote from you..... It was followed up by Ralf001 that these amounts are just 'warm up amounts'... seemingly in support of your behavior. Thus, the question of Ralf001 was because he failed to add clarification to his comment lending to the assumption that he too drinks and drives and is in support of your behavior.
  24. Then counter it with alternative facts.... It seems high to me too to be fair - I always figured I was under the limit after 2 cans of beer within an hour and drew the line there - it appears I may have been over the limit at times as well (which I'm sure will give you great enjoyment and an opportunity to remove context and gaslight).
  25. You mentioned 12 is an afternoon warm up session and the topic is specifically drink driving. If you lack the clarity in your comment that '12 is a drink driving session' but do not drive - in such a topic its obviously important when discusion 'volume' or 'amount' that you clarifiy you are not drink driving after such consumption.
