Foreigner Wrecks Chiang Mai Stall After Smoking Ban Warning
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Chiang Mai News
But NOT a danger to the gas bottles. 100% not a danger to the Gas Bottles.... that part of the article was an attempt to shine the Thai women in a 'favourable light'.... However, the video shows they behaved as poorly as the British guy.... perhaps even worse. I've not seen anything other than the headline of the article that shows any damage to the stall... and if there was any damage it was done by the women trying grab buckets and water to throw at the Brit.... -

This I agree with... idiots around on a daily basis, particularly in areas of high footfall and booze... .... its your bigotry and generalisation thats flawed... Brits arguing, Thais shooting, Swiss kicking... Terrible behavior is all around us and its not confined to one nationality... -

It may not have been illegal.... but smoking in that area is certainly antisocial and outs the Brit as a self-centred pr!ck... I think that much is already a given. -

When I read the headline I cringed thinking “he is probably going to be a Brit”. I think probably most of us did. Thats because you're a judgmental, biased bigot - so deeply entrenched in your own prejudice that you assume the rest of the world must be equally narrow-minded. It's just a small, bitter handful of Brit-bashers like yourself who perpetuate this tiresome narrative. Most others, fortunately, possess the intelligence to recognise that such behavior isn't indicative of all Brits. However, I’ll grant you this: there are indeed plenty of fools in Thailand who conduct themselves disgracefully, and yes, some of them happen to be British. -

Here we go again. Always making up your own version of what happened. apologising if it is a Brit, or criticizing if a Thai. What was wrecked ??? - did you see any photo's or pictures of a 'wrecked stall'.... I saw none of that.... I think its just an exaggeration for the headline... No apologising for the Brit - he's clearly a pi!!ock... read that twice if you need to, just to lock it into that bigoted scull of yours !!! -
How did you get that ? Thai Citizenship ?... Married to a Government Official ? I'd like to ensure a way of securing health care once my insurance premiums get too high.... i.e. when I'm of retirement age, 60s or 70s etc... Because even the government hospitals in Thailand 'double charge' foreigners and treatment for something serious could get prohibitively expensive.
-
Yes... Its a concern of mine since... while still young enough to afford private medical care, at some point that insurance will become prohibitively expensive. The 'Body snatchers' as they are called, take you to which ever hospital pays them the most to deliver you !!... (or thats how it used to be - with these 'foundations'). So... You end up in Bumrungrad for a month without proof of payment or insurance...I'm not sure that would happen, I think by law they have to treat you for a minimum of 72 hours, but by then, if its not been established that you can pay, I think the hospital itself looks to transfer you to a government hospital.

Just curious on this one.... Because although the headline states "Foreigner wrecks Chiang Mai stall"... ... in the video, I see the 'British-Pr!ck' no closer than 2m from the stall.... So... what exactly was wrecked ??.... unless the Brit returned after the video ended and decised to 'trash the stall' but surely there would be a video of that, no ? -

So are you claiming we do not have a terrible reputation abroad? we can either keep denying it or we can accept the reality and apologize. A real man will apologize. A real man would have sufficient intellect not to stoop to the vulgarity of sweeping generalisations. The British are lamented in Spain, the Australians maligned in Bali, and Americans suffer disgrace in Tijuana. The pattern is as predictable as it is tedious: wherever a sizeable group of any nationality exists, a few unsavoury individuals will inevitably sully the reputation of the whole. Yet, it’s always the same, dreary chorus of the half-wits in response.... Oh the Swiss, the Australians, the Brits etc.. whichever nationality happens to stumble into disrepute, there is no shortage of uninspired minds ready to seize upon these moments to validate their insular, echo-chamber biases. Those who succumb to this idiocy reveal the inadequacies of their education. Perhaps it was the unfortunate curriculum of a third-rate Canadian community college that failed you so thoroughly.... -

The 'smoking near a Gas stove' is somewhat of a red-herring or a distraction for the underlying story..... ... An anti-social pr!ck was smoking in a public area with the self-righteous arrogance that this was his right and no one else around him mattered... ... How the two women at the stall addressed the issue of him smoking in front of their stall is most likely a point of escalation.... but the pr!ck should not have been smoking there in the first place. -

I've not seen any videos of the initial part of the encounter / trigger.... But thats hardly surprising.... people only 'get their phone out and start recording' once things are actually kicking off... ... the 'trigger point' is often missed... -

did I miss part of the story? No sa-moke... really? You have been here long enough to know what that means in Thai... haha... I’m simply offering my interpretation of how the situation might have unfolded and escalated. I’ve often observed how quickly people here can become irate over seemingly minor matters, which then spiral into heated exchanges. It’s common to see underlying frustrations trigger disproportionate reactions to the slightest provocations. That said, this doesn’t excuse the Brit who was smoking in public with blatant disregard for others. However, I highly doubt the depiction of the two Thai girls maintaining perfect calm and politeness is an entirely accurate reflection of what transpired. -

I do.... a couple of particularly posters post the confused emoji next to all of my posts... ... They are just idiotic trolls, I know who the main culprits are, the patterns of when they are online make it obvious. The mods can also see who posts what emoji - so they can probably tell who's been trolling... I see some other posters area also trolled in this manner... I see the patterns on their posts too, when they make a sensible comment, yet someone places a confused emoji on every comment they make, its then fairly easy to tell (or rather guess) who else was trolling them. Some weak minded children post these emojis and hide behind the anonymity - the forum should go back to allowing us to see who agreed / disagreed with the post - at least its more honest that way. -

Very true... Shortly after we got married, my Wife told me she had health / medical insurance... Naturally I asked for the details - Wife's mother dealt with all that stuff apparently... ...... the response was... "Oh, we stopped that years, ago, you never used it" The logic here is sometimes upside down & inside out. -

Don’t drag the rest of us Brits down into your pit of stupidity. Sure, some Brits are an absolute embarrassment, and when you say "we," you’re clearly lumping yourself in with the worst of the lot. But every Brit I know, almost without exception, has basic decency, manners, and respect for others - qualities you lack. If you roll around with dogs, don’t be surprised when you wake up covered in fleas, MalcomB. Maybe if you stop surrounding yourself with lowlifes and drunk-driving mongers you'd meet some people who aren’t complete degenerates and recognise that not all British folk are the despicable characters you generalise us for. -

Onward ticket provider (new to me)

Exactly this... 'some sites' will not accept debit-cards.... I've no idea why, its not clear why, and certainly there is no indication or statement that debit-cards are not accepted, but when attempting to make payment on certain websites a debit-card would not be accepted, only a credit-card when through. This happened to me with Emirates a number of years back (it could be different now). BUT... I wanted to change a flight and pay the change fee..... I tried to use two different debit cards, which wouldn't work. I tried to use a friends debit card, which didn't work. So I switched to my Credit Card and no problem.... This was 'over the phone' and not online and the 'Emirates call centre staff' also had no idea why this was the case. So... the comment that 'some sites do not accept debit cards' is an accurate comment..... though its understandable that many will not have encountered this difficulty - the issue is usually found out through trial and error when first attempting to pay with a debit-card and getting it refused then switching to a credit-card and the transaction is successful. -

Not a wholly disagreeable point !!.... I do agree, anyone smoking in the vicinity of non-smokers and in a non-designated smoking area are hardly of commendable character.... But... escalation and inflaming a situation is not a solution.... -

Having lived here for over two decades I think its a fairly 'safe assumption' to suggest that the language and tone used when 'Politely asking the Brit to stop smoking' was far from pleasant and far from polite.... In fact, I would go as far and suggest that the stall owner was rather impolite, loud and rude with her request (as we sometimes see in these confrontations). I would also make the assumption that the 'sister followed suit' with said 'loud and rude behavior' which inflamed the situation more. Perhaps due to a language barrier, but I very much doubt the request was "please Sir, would you mind moving away from the stall while smoking, we have food here for customers"... ... and I 'imagine' it was more like... "YOU, YOU, Go away, move, no sa-moke, no sa-moke ... go away"... And the situation went from zero to incendiary in an instant. And of course the article polishes this to make the Thai's look extremely soft and gentle... BUT - with all of that said, the British Guy is an absolute inconsiderate, self-centred ayhole, and no one wants this behavior near them or in their country... such characters are vermin.... BUT... in the 'anatomy of this inflamed interaction' I would guess that smoking triggered the upset of the Thai stall workers who's response escalated the interaction into the ensuing row. Completely agree - though we may be accused of 'victim blaming' here - I doubt the two ladies in question were shrinking violets... and the Brit was clearly a grade A1 ayhole. -
