You mean like you are blindly believing everything you read on the internet ? (above sources)... There are various sources - in one of them I've read the the girl is 16, in others she's 17, in some she's M4 in others M5 - the truth is in there somewhere, not that its a big deal - the girl was of legal riding age. In some reports there is no mention of brake failure, in others there is a mention that the driver did not flee and stayed around to inform the police of brake failure.... YET, strangely enough the brakes were able to work and the truck stoped 20m after impact (clearly the brakes did not fail) .... Are you stupid enough to believe brake failure and not speeding ??? Additionally - in all the reports I've read it was stated that large trucks exceed the 45kmh speed limit at this junction (the intersection of Southern Road, 9.87 km mark). You still think this was not speeding related ?

I've used the INNOV K2 on two different Bikes.... > BMW ADV - Cams mounted by myself, easy to do. I mounted the Front Cam just under the windshield and ran the cables down past the steering column alongside the brake cables, then ran them inside the body work alongside other wiring (neat job)... I mounted the Rear facing cam undernear the rear box tray, and ran that under the seat directly to the control module, simple enough. > Vespa - Cams mounted by the shop. I wanted some mods on the bike and also gave them the INNOV-K2 to mount. - Front Cam, they ran from the handlebar (mirror mount), down through the faring into the control unit placed in the 'glove box'. - Rear Cam, they ram from the rear luggage rack, along the brake lines (inside the body work) past the battery into the control unit placed in the 'glove box'. - Control unit was wired into the battery - from control unit placed in the 'glove box' to the battery under the footwell (area). Note: I also installed a CTEK Battery tender as when the bike is parked up the cam does have some battery draw.... so part of that is hard wired into the battery and the fitting (attachment) pokes out of the battery cover. All looks neat enough and there is no obvious dangling wires. (slightly separate issue - I've installed all my own vehicle dash-cams too, and managed to tuck the wires away under the upholstery).

Dont forget - the university professor attempted to Murder him because he is a farang !! Really though - Even IF Brit scratched the guys car with his bag, didn't notice and rode off.... the reaction by the car driver (a Uni professor) was still outrageous extreme - he needs to be put in prison for attempted murder... So whatever Brit (accidentally did to the car) nothing deserves the response of the car driver. So.. while I disagree with Brit on many subjects... even though there has been a bit of jesting on this issue, I am fully supportive of him, his case and have and continue to wish him the fullest of recoveries and that any court ruling goes his way.

Bangkok Taxi Driver Faces Backlash for Not Using Meter

Because I don't want to and prefer to maintain some anonymity... having recently travelled to xx and xx countries gives may give away who I am to other forum members who may actually know me in person, and I'm way too much of an ayhole on here to allow for that !!!... (there are a few weirdo's who do stalk)... I do... because they are ripping me off... Where do you draw the line? 5x... 10x the going rate ? So if I'm trying to get home from Sukhumvit Soi 11 at night and 10 taxi drivers in a row are quoting 500 baht, is that acceptable (for an 80 baht journey) ??? How about if you want a Meal.. and instead of charging you the Menu price they double it, because they can... after all, its just a bit of capitalism, isn't it ??? But its not just the 3x and 5x charges.... its being stuck and having successive taxi's outright refusing the fare. This happens to me regularly on Friday nights etc.. and I just have to deal with the cheating scum as most people do. This also happened to my Wife when picking up my son from school (we were without a car for 2 weeks)... she couldn't believe it - midday, Mother and Child getting rejected by taxi after taxi... sometimes up to 10 in a row - rather offensive behavior of scummy taxi drivers if you ask me. Its not about 2 baht or measly change - its about a service that taxi drivers have agreed to undertake and then cherry pick their rides, are rude, repeatedly reject rides, inflate their fares etc... ... IMO a lot of taxi drivers are scum for this level of behavior they carry out - its a real shame for the many good taxi drivers out there trying to earn a clean honest living - for they get tarred with the same brush. And Grab now is just as bad - if I know I'm going out at 6pm tomorrow I can book ahead... But then 30mins before the ride comes, they cancel. Same going to the airport - Book the day Advance, the ride cancels - but at least there is a way around this and AOT is reliable. -
Its not 'pretty hard' for vehicles to slow down which are not already speeding... This truck was speeding... (speed limit was 45 kmh).... There was no mention of break failure - just that the truck failed to stop and killed the girl. Cute... but no thanks - I don't refer to such flawed minds for advice or information.

Bangkok Taxi Driver Faces Backlash for Not Using Meter

Recently in another country - out till late with my Wife and Son at a nice restaurant. Tried using the local Taxi Apps - nothing worked. Went to the street to flag down a taxi - about 10 in a row outright refused... It took us over an hour to finally get a taxi that would take us for 3x the 'expected' fare. Not impressed.... because of such experiences I have little intention to return. Not a one off event - but repeated scam attempts just take away from the experience that it gets to the point, why bother - does the good of enjoying a city outweigh the negatives of getting irritated by these scum - sometimes I think not. -
I had a major sports injury earlier this year while overseas... Needed surgery to re-affix tendons - Had travel insurance which covered the emergency treatment overseas, but opted to return to Thailand and have the operation here which was also covered under insurance - Total Cost was approximately US$15,000... ... Still recovering and further recovery to the level of being able 'running around' will take another 6 months I think. I'm not sure I'll ever reach the same level of 'pain-free mobility'.... ...But, that is a facet of doing some of these sports - if they're not dangerous, they're not fun. That said, I'd place motorcycling around Thailand in a different category - for some is a convenience, for others its a necessity, only in the quieter hilly areas is it a pleasure... ... For me, its when the car is not available and I'm nipping somewhere nearby... I think my days of regularly riding around Bangkok to a shopping centre, being shooed down into the stiflingly hot and humid bowels of a car-park into crammed spaces where the bike gets scratched by careless ayholes... and then walking into a shopping centre pished-wet through with sweat are behind me ....especially when I can rock up in the car full nice and cool with full AC and park near the doors in a 'booked space'... (space booked on an App)....

Its a completely cultural thing... We rock up at our school each morning... high end Mercedes S Classes, BMW 7 Series, Alphards... the full on 'hi-So' ensemble of vehicles.... Its only the 'Western kids' or 'Half Thai - Half Western' kids who we see using 'Car seats'... ... Money is clearly not an issue... But most of the kids are not even in seat-belts. Its not an education thing, as the parents (many of whom we know and are friends with) were educated overseas, know the rules, know why etc... yet they won't use a car seat and don't enforce their kids to wear seatbelts.... It astonishes me.... One of them is even still nuts about Covid spraying their kids down with antimicrobial spray, hands, tables, seats etc... but seat-belts - no, not even a through given, even after we mention it.... The potentail for completely avoidable tragedy and heartbreak is seemingly invisible to many - this facet of life here astonishes me as they really have no excuse for this level of disregard for the safety of their children.

Sorry to hear that..... Maybe the helmet could have made a difference - too late now and I doubt any other around will learn. In Laws recently had an accident - Small impact, Airbags went off... FiL injured... no seatbelt. It was the Airbag that hurt him..... I've been telling them for years to wear an airbag.... but nope.... they sit 'on' the seatbelt (done up) to stop the car dinging.... they refuse to listen. Ironically, when they get in my car, they put the seatbelt on automatically, as I refuse to move until they do so. So... tonight... first time we've seen them since the accident - FiL wants to show me his injuries... I asked him if he was wearing a seatbelt - Nope... I don't him the injuries are his own fault then... later on they leave and get in their new car... Nope... no seatbelt - not chance of them doing that... Lovely people - but eff me.... for the life of me I cannot understand how educated and seemingly intelligent people can be so obtuse.

Sorry for your loss. If you dont mind me asking,.... can I pose the following questions (I'll give my resoning after the questions). - Wearing a helemet ? - Sobre ? - Riding a night ? - Riding in the Wet ? - Speeding or riding fast ? - Quality of eyesight ? - Using phone while riding ? The reasons I ask is to evaluate risk profile. Riding without a helmet oviously increases the risk of serioius injury by about 50%... Just run into a wall at full speed (usually about 20kmh for most ppl) and try and come away without a severe head injury. Riding at night - More drunk people around and poorer visibility due to dark tint - this more chance of a loon knocking you off your bike (I personally avoid riding at night wherever possible). Riding in the Wet - reduces visibility of other vehicles who can't see through crappy windshield dark tint and poor wipers, slippery roads so no one can stop, easier to get into a skid or slide when avoiding something. Speeding / riding fast - speaks for itself... those riding fast have less chance to react (especially when combined with the above factors). Quality of eyesight - my night vision is getting worse, I mostly get my Wife to drive at night... but when I compare to others (friends etc) its still much better !!... just not good enough for the clarity of vision I want. Phone use - so many people dont realise how much road information they miss when looking at a phone for one second. I'm not suggesting any of the reasons above are the cause for the loss of your relative - but, the close friends have had accidents, its usually because of one of those factors: - Guy (Thai) killed himself - rode into the back of a parked truck at night, while drunk at night. - Guy (Western) serious leg injury (lucky not to die).... months of recover, rode while drunk at night, didn't see the truck. - Guy (Thai) using his phone, no seat belt on, drove into the back of another car, Sober, but just not careful, - Nearly all Thai's I know have been involved in a drink driving related accident. - Guy (motorbike) lost his front end braking over a metal road works cover at night, poor lighting, saw the cover too late.

Do you hold hands with your paid companion?

Then there are just the looks,.... Asean Women look younger than their Western male counterparts... When I've been away in the wilds somewhere, camping, skiing, away at work, unshaven for a few weeks, unkempt, the odd nasal hair of record breaking length, those one or two antennae like eyebrow hairs that mean I can walk safely in the dark and pick up anything I'm about to walk into, months well beyond a back, crack & Sac, crusty nails etc.... .... and then return to my while, who in the meantime has... Spent every morning in the gym, Yoga, spinning, Pilates (often double seasons), dresses like she invented style.... has had her daily facial treatments, spa treatments, carotone cream, slept with a mask on, used Hyaluronic Acid serum daily (which I swear has jizz in it)... takes NMN, various vitamins, (B and D, Calcium)... etc.... She looks 30 years old.... and there I am looking about 60 years old... Then I sort my shyte out, have a shave, trim up, use all her creams etc... get back into the vitamins etc... and start to look closer to a healthy and fit 40 year old... although others may suggest 50... In truth the age gap is 3 years - but she always looks younger than 40... I'll always look older than 40... ... in 20 years time I'll look older than 50 and so will she !!!... thats just the nature of the aging beast.... Maybe we'll start holding hands when we go for a stroll then. -

richard_smith237 replied to Celsius's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I'm not so sure of that... I visited friends recently and we walked to the pub... Their parents (late 70's) were with us... ... as we walked, they (the parents) were holding hands - I thought it quite pleasant. Meanwhile I walked chatting with my mate, wife walked chatting to each other and kids were 10m ahead gabbling away.... I mentioned this to my wife who pointed out that while we don't hold hands she does in fact hold or rather put her hand through my elbow (while my hand is in my pocket)... its only when we are on stairs, or steps, crossing a road etc that I'll take her hand.... It seems to work... In larger cities etc, this is usually because the handbag is placed between us.... Or if in Bangkok, we'll probably not hold hands or arms etc... I think its instinct and depends where we are.... in much the same way I'll move my wallet into my front pocket without thinking as I enter a busier area of town or go on the sky train etc. So... I say, just do what feels naturally.... Sit facing the entrance in a restaurant, she sits down before you do, if she gets up to go to the bathroom, get up too (scan the room a little, see all is ok, nothing serious just a glance), ensure her valubles are safe becasue she will have left her phone hanging off the back of a chair... let her goe through doors before you do, with you pushing it open for her, but only if you know whats on the other side, otherwise you enter first, scan the room, then bring her into the the room holding the door open for her.... ... you walk on the road side of her (or the side of perceived greater danger) etc etc... (seems excessive to write all this down - but IMO, its simple basics)... All should be habit by now... and done without thought. Meanwhile in other aspects, she does most of the driving (as I can't be bothered), I go out when I want, she goes out when she wants, we go out together when we want, either as a couple of as a family.... But one thing we don't do... is walk around a shopping mall in Bangkok, or the UK hand in hand.... we never have even when we were young..... but I won't judge those who do - they are just different, thats all..... But.... I'm not missing the point of the thread - holding hands with a bar girl (long time, short time, extra long time or whatever you want to call it).... thats up to them... it perhaps seems like they are putting on a pantomime of pretence when most people can see through the facade..... .... I can't say that it matters at to anyone at all, not even the couple in questions. -
I don't know about less than 30,000 baht... But, I do know that nearly all Health Insurance Companies will provide cover for Inpatient Only treatment. One I know of is Blue Cross Thailand (I think it is)... there is info on this forum about them. They have a questionable pay out policy (according to some) but offer lower premiums. Pre-existing issues are obviously an issue..... (but if you have no Thai medical history, thats less of an issue). You may struggle to get premiums down to 30,000 baht without a 'deductible'... Lots of info on this forum - but for something more direct trying giving Pacific Prime a contact..... they'll give you some ideas. https://www.pacificprime.co.th/

Agreed.... I'd like to know what led up to the incident whereby the Thai opened the door of the foriegners car, dragged him out and stabbed him in the neck... Did the foreigner cut off the Thai ?... shout at him, give him the middle finger etc ?? People don't just 'stab each other without a trigger'... nevertheless... In this incident, whatever happened, there is no justification for stabbing someone in the neck... its not as if this was a guy preventing a terrorist incident etc....

We can agree on that that... Although I'm not quite as rose tinted... not all Thai's are pleasant affable characters and some can be difficult just as people can be anywhere else... ... However, more so than many other nations, Thai's on the whole are pleasant easy going characters and I very rarely encounter any conflict or cross words - yet when those situations have occurred I'm well aware of how quickly a simple situation can escalate from zero to explosive in a matter of seconds.

Registering car in wife’s name. Good idea?
richard_smith237 replied to Issanraider's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I'm going to give that a try on my Wedding Anniversary.... ... I'm sure I'll need a beer.... -
Do better... If you’re going to attempt gaslighting, at least try to bring some spark to the table your soggy attempt, lacks tinder and with certainty you are no ignition source flickering so weakly in the dark while you stumble aimlessly toward mediocrity. If you could muster even a shred of wit, maybe you’d manage to ignite something worth my attention. Go ahead, aim higher - at least then I might have a reason to be impressed, if you’re capable of it.

The accurate information as reported: The driver said "He was going to fast to stop in time".... Regardless of the flaws in the road design, he was going too fast to stop.... and consequently killed someone..... So... he was either speeding, or driving too fast for the road conditions / visible area of road. When you kill someone because you were driving drunk, you'll probably blame poor road lighting not your impaired reactions. The 'Troll accusation' is often levied at you, because no one believes someone is actually that stupid, thus, the thought is that you must be on the wind-up (trolling people) - once it is realised that you are not trolling, there is one simple remaining conclusion.
-
Agreed.... When I arrive in the UK its a 2 hr journey home... I rarely see anything silly !!! When I arrive in Thailand, its a 30 min journey home... I never 'do not' see anything silly !!! Other countries I visit are worse though... I've been driving in Thailand over 20 years now... it doesn't really bother me even when something riles me and gets me angry, it passes quickly as this is 'Thailand' and the dumb shyte is expected. I've often commented - the mannerisms on the roads can be an insight into the soul and true characteristics of a nation.... ... also, the amount of minor scratches on the majority of vehicles and insight into the mannerisms on the roads !!!
-
I read that too... and while I agree that 'SAFETY FIRST' seems to have gone down the 'anti-farang' road in this thread.... ... I do wonder what the foreign driver did to incite the Thai Motorcyclists into such an angry state.... Lots of potentials... middle finger perhaps (total guess of course) - but some very innocuous things bring Thai's to boiling temperature in a split second - none of which justifies their actions, nevertheless, knowing such information helps us learn more and know how to avoid exposure to such psychopaths when out and about. -------- It never ceases to amaze me how Thai's allow a situation to escalate so quickly and round up so much backup in such a short time-frame. A while ago playing golf (in Kanchanaburi) with a Thai-friend.... We were putting out on the green and one of the group shot onto the green. I shouted.... they could see us... and a second player shot the ball onto the green so I kicked it away and told the caddy to pick up the other ball. When the group (of 4 older Thai folk ) approached - they were incensed, arguing at our slow play. We argued that we could only play at the speed in front of us - it was a weekend and play was slow, but nothing we could do about that. The arguement developed - me arguing with the Thai man about his dangerous play, him arguing that we were slow and angry that I'd kicked his ball away. My Wife arguing the same with his wife... Proper silly stuff... meanwhile my Thai friend on the phone. We'd finished our game so my Wife and I walked off... Thai guy still shouting... We'd left the green and stopped at the 19th hole when two cars pulled up.... my Thai friend had called backup and they'd arrived within 10 mins... It seems many have 'access to instant backup'.... And its true,.... whenever I travel somewhere... Phuket, Chiang Mai etc... my Thai friend is always giving me numbers - contact this guy if you have a problem !!!

Bangkok Taxi Driver Faces Backlash for Not Using Meter
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
And I think 50/50 is fair accusation - but its down to individual experience.... thus your correction is as flawed for the very same reasons you question the comment itself. IMO: In central Bangkok in the day time: It used to be about 30% trying to scam us... now in my experience its about 70%... In central Bangkok in the day time: It used to be about 30% trying to scam us... now in my experience its about 50%... By 'central Bangkok, I mean area's such as: - Khoa Sarn Road Area - Siam / MBK area - Central World - Asoke Area - Nana Area - Ekammai up to Asoke - Sukhumvit Soi 11 (after 10pm 100% of drivers will scam high 3x rates) - Rajamangala stadium after an event (100% of drivers will scam extortionate rates asking for 1000 Baht) - Bitek after an event (100% of drivers will scam extortionate rates) - Impact Area after an event (100% of drivers will scam extortionate rates) Out of town obviously less scammers more honest taxi drivers.... (as per my example - Suk 71 seems to be fare fewer scam attempts).
