Those YouTube Channels are already out there.... There are also Facebook Pages dedicated to the idiocy witnessed on Thailands roads (by Thai's and foreigners) https://www.facebook.com/groups/1014566385582946 But to be fair - every country has the same groups and much the same stupid stuff can be witnessed.... At least there is far less agression on the roads in Thailand, give or take the odd complete meltdown (as we see with this story). In the UK recently some guy went bonkers at me as I was driving down the road along a row of parked cars... clear on my side, the parked cars were on his side of the road but he expected me to give way.... Which I happily would have, but as we'd approached at the same time I fully expected him to yield... he didn't and pushed his way through, was waving his arms shouting at me.... etc... ... he seemed so mad I had to question my own sanity and wonder what mistake I'd made... But none - he just had no idea it should have been him that was to give way as the obstruction was in his half of the road (his left / my right). People just get mad so easily - but so do I when someone puts my family in danger through their utter stupidity. I got mad a policeman when coming in from the airport a few years ago. He pulled over the AOT van on the expressway - I was telling the driver to ignore the policeman and take the next exit, stopping on the expressway was way to dangerous (with wife and child in car).... the driver didn't listen, the policeman ignored me.... ...Turns out the policeman took 200 baht fine, the reason unclear, but something to do with the van (AOT Toyota commuter) not being permitted to drive in the right most lane on the motorway / expressway - which Id never heard of before)... But I didn't care - stopping on the motorway was such a no-no... but in these cases logic simply cannot prevail.

Bangkok Taxi Driver Faces Backlash for Not Using Meter
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
True... but its still the hassle of going from 4 or 5 or more.... and that wears very thin. Or the repetitive issues of trying to book a Bolt or Grab only to have them refuse the fare or not be able to get a fare (much of the time)... At one point: when UBER was in Bangkok, there was just UBER and GRAB and it was so easy to get a taxi anywhere any time.... just use the App and they come quickly.... Now, there is a huge step backwards.... First world problems - yep, its still better than Pattaya or Patong etc... However, Bangkok is a Captial City - and most visitors will use a taxi at some point - the behavior of Thai taxi drivers showcases the worst of Thai Characterists rather than the best. I've seen the same shoddy practices in other Country's and my take away is... why bother returning to that place if everyone is out to scam us... .... So, I often wonder what % of 'would be return tourists' end up not returning because of poor encountered that tip them over the edge ??? I recently visited a place where I'd definitely be a return tourist... But because of the hustlers and hassles and attempted scams all around it wasn't relaxing as I wanted it to be, I'll think twice before returning... and perhaps rely on ideas to visit elsewhere instead. -
Bangkok Taxi Driver Faces Backlash for Not Using Meter
richard_smith237 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
A minority may, the vast majority do not. That depends what you regard as a scam when bringing out your LL Rule Book of Pedantic Points... You could argue that a Taxi driver who quotes 300 baht for a journey that would normally cost 80 baht on the meter is not trying to scam a person because he's being open with his quote. You could argue that a group of Taxi drivers who quote 300 baht for a journey that would normally cost 80 baht on the meter are not trying to scam a person because they are have all agreed upon their inflated rates. But... others would rightly agree that the above scenario's are a scam - because the law is being broken to the benefit of the taxi drivers at the cost of the passenger. And... in the interest of fairness... Try and take a taxi from Sukhumvit 71 at 10pm at night and 95% will go straight to the meter no hassles. It obviously depends on area and time... But I would argue in the centre of Bangkok at night time, over half the drivers are scammers (i.e. refusing in the meter)... but in the day time, its less. I would argue that on Sukhumvit Soi 11 after 9pm at night, 95% of drivers are scammers (refusing to use the meter). It all depends on what your definition of scam is - and IMO refusing to use the meter is tantamount to scamming. -
No he's not. An Amber traffic light does not mean 'gun it across the junction'... It means stop if safe to do so.. i.e. no skidding or losing control etc. If a bike is speeding up behind a car which slows to a stop on Amber and the bike rides into the back of the car, its 100% the bike riders fault - the rider was too close to the car. The issue here is of courses is not the law itself, but the expectation of everyone around you that the law will not only 'not be followed' but deliberately ignored and that on 'amber' it is expected that other drivers will 'speed up' to get through the lights. It is also expected that when a light turns red, a handful of cars will also speed up to get through the recently 'changed' lights....

Oh Beloved Bangkok, How So You Have Changed...

Oh Beloved Bangkok, How So You Have Changed...
richard_smith237 replied to HugoFastor's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Timing !!... from about 10am to 4pm and then 6pm onwards the traffic usually isn't so bad (exceptions on Friday after 4pm and Saturdays all day - when everyone is out shopping). Even with the expanding sky train there are many excellent locations, restaurants and bars that are beyond the access of the sky-train. Additionally, the sky train covers the busiest areas, so area's off the sky train routes often have less traffic anyway. But - try taking the sky-train at 5pm on a Friday.... its he'll - especially if navigating via Asoke - that said, if in a car, forget about getting anywhere !!!... So sky train really is the only option at that time from that area. I live in Bangkok (not on a sky train route) so take the sky train about 3 times per year perhaps... Most of the time its Drive / Motorcycle or GrabCar BoltCar or Taxi.... If I lived within a few mins of a Sky-Train then I imagine I would use it a lot more - but as it stands I'd have to get a taxi to a sky train and then for most places I visit, I'd need to get another taxi from a sky-train (and those usually have a queue). -
Stop carrying on. 30 years incident free. Most road deaths are caused by sober people. Aw gawd - you really are not very intelligent at all... your logic actually defies logic. Most road deaths are caused by someone doing something they shouldn't... speeding, using a mobile phone, running lights, driving dangerously... ... and in 2022 in the US 32% of all traffic crash fatalities in the United States involved drunk drivers (with BACs of .08 g/dL or higher). So... you may be 30 years incident free.... but stating as as stupid as the idiot who states 'he doesn't need to wear a seatbelt, been driving for 30 years and never needed one'.... !!! (though, I wonder if you'll struggle to comprehend that point - the basic logic may well be beyond your lobotomised logic). And back to the 'never argue with an idiot comment' - no more responses to you on this thread from me unless you can form an intelligent argument as you really are simply too dumb and trollish to bother with.

I think that could be the same as many sports and past times that involve the risk for physical injury. Broken noses, split lips etc / split-cuts to head, torn muscles, torn meniscus, torn hamstring, torn abdominal muscles, ruptured disks (spine), concussion(s), torn Platela, Snapped Achilles... And multiple damaged ego's (playing golf) . Motorcycling - luckily so far, nothing, but based on all the above my riding is getting less and less as the recoveries are getting longer and longer... Given recent injuries (and surgeries) I've been out of sport for 12 months now and expect to be out of sport for another 3-4 months. One fall on a motorcycle just doesn't feel its worth the convenience of having the motorcycle any more.

an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury. "he had an accident at the factory" I go and argue with the dictionary. When you kill or injure someone through your drunk driving, its not a accident. Its unfortunate, its unexpected, its unintentional - but it most certainly is not an accident. When a careless driver kills someone through their inattention, its not a accident. Its unfortunate, its unexpected, its unintentional - but it most certainly is not an accident. YOU want these things to be referred to as an accident because in your broken mind it allows you to continue to 'drive while drunk' with the idea that an incident, injuries or deaths you cause are an 'accident'.... because you didn't mean to do it.

You are really just showing either that you will argue about anything or you are just plain stupid. Riding a motorcycle is much more dangerous drunk because you need to balance which is affected by alcohol. Thank God you didn’t kill anybody. You're not intelligent enough to understand the point... You drink driving in car is dangerous for anyone else around you - thus is selfish and stupid. It is more dangerous for the individual riding a motorcycle while drunk than those others around them (in most cases). You have claimed riding while drunk is 'more dangerous' because you are so selfish you only care about 'yourself' and in this scenario you have projected yourself as the drunk rider and not the innocent victim getting hit by the car you drive. You make yourself look a fool in every thread you post in - drunk driver and in this thread we can add 'selfish' to the list of reprehensible character traits you exhibit.

I wanted this solution, but knew the time I go for a ride the go-pro is not charged... or runs out of charge, or I forget it etc... I waned a '100% on all the time' solution and chose the foreward and rear facing INNOV-K2 (motorcycle dash cam). One small cam facing forwards, and one facing the rear - with the recording gubbins under the seat. Never needed it... But I know its on any time I use my bike... Its not 360 coverage though... it covers 120 degrees forward and rear... so is missing about 60 degrees on either side. I'm waiting for someone to design something like a hard wired Insta360 that slots onto the end of each handlebar - that will pretty much guarantee 360 degree coverage.

I wouldn't be placing my trust in anyone else riding or anyone else having insurance that will cover my costs in an accident caused by them or in / on a vehicle in which I am a passenger. Two Bangkok Taxi's have hit my car in the past - neither had insurance.

I see many cyclists here every morning. What time of the morning and where is that ? Usually, at about 6-7am (when its cooler) and drunk drivers are already home by then... But... it only takes one drunk driver who thinks they can handle it, gets distracted and then plows into the back of 4 or 5 riders in the morning... I can think of a few recent incidents (over the past couple of years) where a drunk has mown down and killed a few riders, riding as part of a group. I suspect the only safe way to ride like this is to have a 'following car' as a buffer from the drunk idiots.

Attempted Murder over a LINE messenger (App) argument... Such an unhinged character [Raphiphan]... This is one person who should never be allowed exposure to public services such as taxi driving.... We never see the follow up - but this was very close to murder, he needs to go away for a long time. Very true - One of the many facets of a country people take away is the transport services and how they function.... This often has an impact on whether a country is a 'one off' visit... or somewhere tourists are likely to become 'repeat visitors'... Example: In other countries the tranport and taxi services are such a hassle, in such disarray with scamming cheating taxi drivers that having visited and been exposed to such behavior and attitudes is enough to deter return visits. ... I've been to a handful of such countries lately... these countries are popular with tourists, but I wonder how many are 'one off tourists'.... Places that have deterred me as a 'return tourist' partially due to the the transport issues they have.... I wonder how many tourists do not return to Thailand because they cannot be bothered with the transport hassles. Once country I recently visited (with family) left me thinking 'F... that, these are lying cheating ayholes who want to scam everyone and anyone, I just can't be bothered with the hassle of returning here'... Even if 10 or 20% of potential return tourists think like this - then its a significant loss of tourist income and all because these scum cannot be controlled. It is of course an immeasurable metric, but one a civilised government and tourism authority should be well aware of and be taking extremely strict measures to deal with.

Registering car in wife’s name. Good idea?
richard_smith237 replied to Issanraider's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Op - Direct answer: - It doesn't matter whose name the car is in - insure the car for anyone to drive (or have both your wife and yourself as named drivers). - Depending on the value of the car have either 1st Class insurance or if the car is cheap, go for basic government insurance (por-ror-bor) OR... If like some others you are married to someone untrustworthy, who you think will run off and sell the car etc then its a simple enough process to put the car in your name. -
Trolling from a pathetic drunk driver. I don't drive or ride when over the legal limit.... You on the other hand openly admit to doing so. This highlights your selfishness.... you think drink riding on a motorcycle is more dangerous because you only consider yourself. Drink Driving is more dangerous to everyone else around you... You've showcased your self-centeredness in that very comment.

You. Then your reading comprehension is a shoddy as your character.... One is a question - could a helmet have made a difference ? - she was impacted and suffered severe head injuries - thats not blaming her for the incident. On the other hand you want to call the incident an 'accident'... which it is not... Just because something is unintentional does not make in an accident. The cause is likely a form of negligence - driver speeding, unable to stop... Or... in your case, drink driving and if having an accident you would be criminally negligent - which is why you attempt deflect blame from the truck driver because you know one day you'll be the one at fault.

Who pays - traps, control of aggressive dogs, capture, transport... Solo kennels... alone, because they'll fight other males and mate with females. A nice idea, but Who pays ?... The dog foundation ? - how long will that last ? What is the cost to spay a dog? Again, a nice idea, but who pays ? The d og foundation ? - how long will that last ? What is the cost to vaccinate a dog ? Return where ? - how will people know their original location ? Thats a lof of faith on 'record keeping'... And what happens when they can return ? if the return to the right area and don't even up fighting to regain territory and get more violent ? Who feeds them ????.... butting the ownus back on society to feed the strays ? What when one of these strays bites a child's face ??? who is accountable then? the dog foundation for altering the dogs hormones and then placing a stray untrained dog back on the street where is it once again starving, fighting for food and in competition will all the others in the same situation >? .... but its ok... we only have to wait for them to die 'cos they can't procreate - the next 10 years don't matter.

No - you are.... +1 if you are agree... not that agreement matters, its just a discussion and any extra form of agreement doesn't make an issue right or wrong... Nevertheless - this wanna-be-expert brings is library textbook theory into these discussion, and like any wannabe civil servant fails to accomodate reality.... in this case the reality of society and how such issues can be handled effectively in Thailand with local knowledge and preexisting local networks of vermin control. He has his fingers dancing on the keyboard of attempted logic... but is let down by his mind two stepping a tango onto the toes of broken text-book theory...
