  1. In the right places those with character are great fun... Life could be quite boring without the technicolour added to it by the characters around us (within reason). In other-words - Dumb People sticking to and / or depending on stereotypes (agreed). 100% agree Disagree - there's nothing wrong with someone who enjoys beer every day, so long as they are not making an nuisance of themselves. Translation: Idiots who post exceptionally dumb questions on this forum !!! (where to get flip-top toothpaste !). Erm... this is a weird one.. Why someone being able recognise dementia and calling it out (in a stranger or those around me) make them a better type of foreigner?
  2. Bob, you are one of the characters on here I would meet for beer... Your post are fun, they draw an awful lot of flack (from me included), I respect how thick skinned you are never taking anything too personally... I've given you a lot of flack in the past and you don't hold a grudge (unlike a lot of other posters)... I'd also like to witness how you perceive the treatment of Thai's compared to myself... "The girl slammed the beer down on the table and scorned, all Thai's hate foreigners".... Vs my version... "Beers arrived and we chatted".... (imagined example of course).
  3. They all read Maps.... Everywhere they go they find via google maps on their phone.. So reading a map is second nature. If however you mean triangulating the location from a compass and ordinance survey map - I doubt many (old or young) are able to do this.
  4. Reality - those installing the tiles just don't give a flying fluk... Those approving the work don't give a flying fluk... There is just no pride at that level whatsoever. I wonder how slippery those tiles are when wet... are they non-slip or when it rains are we going to see people slipping over everywhere - did someone consider that when making the the choice of tile. When a city such as Thailand has chaotic and ugly streets and architecture, hanging wires etc.. the tiles are just another facet to be messed up. The most logical solutions would be to lay concrete pavements / sidewalks or lay 'paving slabs'... and deal with the other issues, blocking the pavements / sidewalks, hanging wires... shop frontages encroaching on pedestrian space etc... Worry about 'beautification' and 'pretty tiles' once the primary issues are resolved. As worderodie wrote - They look cheap [the tiles], but I bet they weren't (i.e. a decision maker / offical somewhere has profited healthily).
  5. Those who are just normal... - Those who integrate politely - Those who enjoy themselves - Those who don't moan about everything - Those who identify that one negative facet if Thailand does not equal a generalisation of all of Thailand - Those who develop a mutual level of respect with those around them - Those without a superiority complex to those Thai's around them - Those who can handle their booze without turning into violent pi!!ocks - Those who don't think all Thai woman are hookers to be bought I think the vast majority of people fit well with the above, it is often the voices on the fringes that should the loudest, in this case, the poorest behaved are the most visible.... Most people are not poorly behaved. This forum is different - I'm sure most of those whose opinions are extreme who we'd assume would fail to posses or act with any of the above qualities may in fact be fare more sensible people when out and about. There are people on this forum who it would be argued are despicable trollish pigs, the attitudes they express are such that I'd never want to be exposed to them - the reality is in real life I've never met many people like that. Perhaps the anonymity of the forum allows people to present their inner self, or perhaps a lot of people just articulate their arguments very poorly without thinking then their ego forced them down the rabbit hole and doubling down on their flawed comments rather than admitting they'd made a mistake.
  6. The number 13 is or was considered unlucky in the West, as Judas, who betrayed Christ was the 13th to be seated at 'The Last Supper'... In Norse Mythology - Loki was the 13th to arrive at a feast in Valhalla, where he tricked another attendee into killing the god Baldur. Thus: I suspect the missing number 13 in some buildings is to accommodate these 'Western Myths' which IMO is quite odd as other numbers such as 9 is considered unlucky in Japan, 17 is considered unlucky in Italy and 4 is considered unlucky in China. Given Thailands connection with China, I would have expected the number 4 to be missing from most buildings. Thus: I can only assume that the number 13 missing from floor 'naming' in Thailand is simply 'copy-catting' from other areas - perhaps even a subconscious attempt to 'show quality' and doing things the 'Western way'...
  7. Thats the key point... It seems Immigration offices and DLT's in different locations apply their own regulations differently - I'm sure this is not a surprise to any of use here. I know that the DLT in Area 3 (Bangkok, Bang Chak) does accept the Yellow House Book for Driving licence renewal and car registration. I have also read on here that Chonburi, does not. I have also read on here that the going rate for an 'instant service' CoR is 500 Baht or it takes about two weeks to receive in the post. So, while the Op doesn't want to tell us where - this information is often useful to a lot of us who may be about to go through this common request - I don't understand the reason not to tell where. ------- It seems the Op was the victim of 'greed' inflation !!..
  8. I've been through the satellite terminal at Suvrnabumi a few times now... Its long way. What I would plan: - Pre-Book Special Assistance (upon arrival). - When checking in at your departure airport, ask for a 'baggage tag' to gate check your wheel chair. - Use your wheel chair through the airport once at the plane (air-bridge), the airline staff will load it in the baggage. - Upon arrival your wheel chair 'should' be made available to you upon de-planing. - IF your wheel chair is not made available when deplaning, then you have the wheel chair assistance that you pre-booked to help (and the use of their wheel chair) - in this case your wheel chair may go to the carousel (nevertheless, you then still have someone to fast track you through the airport). I've flown with wheel chair assistance (after an injury) - but never my own wheel chair. But, the gate checking option was frequently used for our 'buggy' (for our infant son)... we'd gate check it every time and it would be there, with other buggies at the air-bridge or just inside the gate - only a couple of times was it taken through to baggage reclaim, but I doubt they'd do that with a wheel-chair.
  9. The idea of a 'go bag'... seems to be the delusional idea of someone who things they are in clandestine services and may need to escape without wasting seconds... In reality, for those needing to 'move quickly'... that 'quickly' is hours not minutes. In this context it has crossed my mind if my Son were to get into extreme trouble.. i.e. he's caught in a mates house with a load of drugs, or worse still caught in possession of a large amount of drugs etc... ... I'd do what I can to get him out of the country immediately.. Obviously, I don't ever expect this would happen and ensuring it doesn't is down to solid parenting - however, never say never !..
  10. It means you're making a show and dance and verbalising your self perceived moral superiority over someone who has recently encountered the worst possible tragedy and lost their child in a tragic accident. ... That doesn't make you morally superior - it makes you insensitive and void of empathy.... The rest of your tosh is pure gaslighting while attempting to double down with a complete lack of tact.
  11. Would have / Could have / Should have.... your sanctimony has grown so rich you'll be able to start going on dates with 'thesetat2013'... You'll get along perfectly, you could drink water, eat vegan and both discuss how you you've never once made an error...
  12. Quite possibly.... I imagine its all part of a plan, progression. Its obviously easier for out bound passengers.... and indeed, some Non-Thai's (on this forum) have reported using the e-gates already... though has they are being trialed, I suspect they 'slipped through the gaps'... I think its only a matter of time before they are used for both Thai's and Foreigners upon departure. And for Thai's and Non-Thai longer term residents on arrival. Its just natural progression - it happens slowly here, but it happens.
  13. More tosh.... This is 'AI Generated Text that has been 'humanised'... Whoever is getting sponsored to write this disingenuous baiting garbage is getting better at avoiding AI detection with a use of a 'humanising' filter'
  14. If being checked by a 'digital system' and your records are all online... Why would it even be necessary to go back to an 'analogue' system (i.e. a stamp?)... it would just be superfluous to the system. The necessary information is stored your Immigration Profile (Immigration database) and compared to your passport biometrics.
  15. Why not all passengers irrelevant of nationality. I thought that would be extremely clear to anyone... Thai citizens are exempt from passport and visa requirements, so verifying their status is straightforward. However, individuals from other countries face a complex array of entry permissions, including Permanent Resident, Non-Immigrant, Tourist, Volunteer, and Visa Exemption statuses. The system is currently being tested for Thai citizens, which is a logical initial step before further updates and developments can be implemented.
  16. You realise the stupidity of this comment... Its like suggesting someone moves to their home country if they are asking where they can get a decent burger, or buy a good BBQ... Having Air-Con is a facet of being in Thailand - one now ingrained throughout culture, throughout society. Only the poorest do not have AC in their homes. ------- Back on Topic - OP... If your AC is on, working, but is not cooling your room to a comfortable temperature - then its not working.
  17. Wife thought this was hilarious... Some people have an ability to laugh at their own nations / others are poorly educated and get offended or take themselves too seriously... In Da House - Thailand ICE.mp4
  18. Yes... In reality... I'm currently resident of a few countries (due to work). Two of them, I simply scan my Passport In and Out without getting any stamp. Thus: I think this could be implemented for those on a Resident Visa (i.e. Non-Imm B / O / OA etc)... or even those on long term Visas (i.e. Thai Elite etc).... But for regular tourists and those arriving on Tourist Visa's / Visa Exemption stamps I think e-gates would be more difficult to implement, and IMO unlikely.
  19. I wouldn't exactly call them 'tighy-whiteys'... nothing tight about them... more lick saggy Y-fronts as you call them... Surely boxers with elastane are the way to go out here...
  20. Thats just down to how multicultural a nation is. Thailand knows there are 'very few' foreigners who have Thai Nationality... At the same time, particularly in areas of Bangkok, there are whole 'Indian' (Sikh) communities who are Thai, and they 'fit in like locals' because all locals know they are Thai... The same is said of Thai Chinese. But with White Foreigners, who've gained Thai Nationality no one believes they are Thai, that just does not compute. The Opposite is true in our home countries.. When I visit with my Wife (Thai), no one thinks she isn't British, its just assumed by everyone that she was born in the UK. ------------- I think feelings of how we 'fit in' are more tied into how 'normal' we feel being here. I don't find Thailand anything special, I don't expect special treatment or negative treatment, I expect the same degree of indifference with which Thai's treat each other.... .... everything seems pretty normal... for me, thats a feeling of fitting in... fitting in enough anyway... BUT... thats in Bangkok... ... when I've been in more isolated in Thailand and have 'kids following me around in Big-C giggling etc - thats when I'm reminded, no I don't fit in and there is still a novelty element to the 'foreigner experience' or at least the continued exposure to the feeling of being 'different' (which I don't get in Bangkok).
  21. And... no you won't... On every thread you post in, the only thing you beleive is your own negative bias regardless of the mountain of experiences and information presented to you that contradict your self inflicted broken encounters and opinions.
  22. I'll believe it when I see it! bob. I'm not sure what has changed with this new system... But there have already been plenty of reports of foreigners using the previous e-gate system (Dec / Jan of this year)... That brought up the issue of the system recognising the 're-entry permit'... BUT - I'm sure when it does happen, you will find a way to have a problem with the e-gates and accuse all Thai's of hating foreigners because it 'glitched' when you tried it !!...
  23. No they don't 'have to be'... ... just because foreign passports are currently stamped, it does not mean at all that foreign passports have to be stamped with an expiry date.... ... This already occurs in so many places.... Its up to the 'Passport holder' to know their permission of stay. Also, it wouldn't be difficult for the system to 'issue a slip' - showing permission of stay. All data is logged digitally, so theoretically there is no need for any stamps.
  24. Your bullshyite bias and persistent negative rhetoric against all things Thai is blinding you so severely lack a basic ability to comprehend what is in front of you.... After a 'testing phase' the new gates will cater to foreigners.
