  1. Unless you have some kind of mobility problem, surely for less than 2km you would have been better walking. You get a fixed fare then the driver Bolt or not, cannot charge you more for the likes of heavy traffic or toll charges. It would have bothered me to get charged double, not so much the money but for his cheek. Did he have a notice in the car saying that if the taxi is held up you will be charged double? It would take the average person about 25 mins to walk 2 kms..... thats no problem for most people from a mobility perspective. However, 25 mins walking in this heat ???... no thanks and thats why people don't want to walk. When I first arrived in Thailand, friends and I were down by Nana and wanted to go up to Siam Centre... (pre-BTS days). We started off in a taxi but it was too slow, so friends wanted to walk... We arrived at the Siam Centre at a similar time, them covered in sweat and me in relative comfort having continued on in the taxi. As far as being charged more - the App predicts traffic patterns and charges accordingly with 'peak fares' etc... once the fare is quoted I was not aware it could be changed (but could be mistaken on this) unless a 're-booking' is made, or alterations were made to the destination, or you instructed the driver to stop beyond the 'stopping area' made in the booking.
  2. Not quite true… they have a bigger cranial ridge amongst other things that along with significantly more powerful musculature enables a far greater bite force - hence their ability to bite & hold (which’s lends to the locking myth you mention). It’s obvious you want to defend pitbull breeds, but you are doing so at any cost to a valid argument you may have. I’ve seen these lovely loyal dogs with excellent owners…. and, I see the attraction. But, society on a whole is at greater risk when there is no control, because, when these breeds more than any other are not trained very well to their needs the stats show how significantly worse the consequences are - on a societal level, that becomes unarguable on a logical levels
  3. I’m not sure you understood my comment… I have so much respect for my father, even if my son respects me only to half the amount - I’ll be happy. we
  4. & the GOM from the famed Grumpy old man thread… I went to Emporium for morning coffee at the Oriental Cafe for weeks, sitting in every chair in the hopes of a thrilling encounter !!! 🫣
  5. There are a number of people on here that I’d meet for a beer… Those with whom I’ve verbally sparred from time to time, but who hold no grudges and deal with each thread on a new basis…. Liverpool Lou… I’d meet him & discuss insurance small print over a beer… Trans - I’d meet him and discuss N2 in tyres, over a beer of course… Neeranam - I’d meet him to argue the benefits of a pink ID, over a lot of Whisky… & plenty of others…. But there are also those who I’d definitely avoid and perhaps them I…. it’s easy to get into argumentative debates on these forums, but I imagine most would get along quite well in person. Then there are others such as Sheryl - who I’d bring flowers and say thanks for everything she does for this online community…. And plenty of others…
  6. & yes Chihuahua’s are nasty little bast@rds… But they don’t maim & kill at anywhere near the rates the Pitbull breeds do… Next, someone will come up with the ridiculous argument that people kill more than dogs…
  7. Valid comments…. But even with the overlap in what constitutes the breed the stats are overwhelmingly disproportionate….
  8. Well of course all dogs can bite & will if brought up terribly… but it’s very clear that some are just a lot more dangerous and aggressive than others & the stats are overwhelmingly clear… Your family golden retriever example is just flawed deflection.
  9. Slightly off topic, but useful for this topic: Recovery: a) with plasma injections. b) with stem cells injections. Anyone with any experience of this ? Cost, where, effectiveness ?
  10. Years of skiing & football…. The resulting complex tear of the meniscus was ‘cleared up’ (trimmed up) with minimal arthroscopic surgery mid 2023 and is a few months from getting back to 100% normal, but still couldn’t play football yet (probably requires 12 months for something that ‘twisty & stop-start’)…. I also had the ‘click & grind’ issue when walking which was quite unnerving & told me something definitely had to be done. Dr. Panya at Bumrungrad did the work after reading recommendations on this forums.
  11. Oh no…. Here we go again… … over to you ‘Neeranam’ !!! 🫣
  12. If my son has half the respect for me that I have for my father, then I’ll consider myself proud of a job well done… What does surprise me when reading such threads is how many people come from such disrupted & broken family backgrounds. I wonder if people should not have to pass a test before becoming parents !!
  13. Everyone ignores the memo… … there’s always sone announcements made by someone in a position of authority with such hubris that they believe the mere announcement alone is sufficient… … crackdown on marine safety. … crackdown on van safety. … crackdown on cheating taxi’s … crackdown on… etc etc etc… Nothing happens, the apathy of those in positions of decision making power is ever present.
  14. This was the ‘fast track’ lane two weeks ago, it was a 30 minute wait - I dread to think what the normal immigration lanes would have been like. For anyone coming through the airport on a regular basis they will have experienced horrendous queues at Immigration normal channels or have been incredibly lucky, or telling porkie-pies !!! 🤥
  15. I’m passing through Suvarnabhumi airport multiple times per year (on average about 16x)… I too agree with your comment and I’ve never had poor service from an Immigration officer. But, it’s not their job to ‘service & welcome us’, it’s their job to profile us & it’s a sh!££y boring job - I expect nothing other than general indifference from them, just like any other country. That said excessive queues at immigration are a huge issue at Suvarnabhumi Airport & this issue has repeatedly been in the news over recent years. Immigration have always claimed they don’t have enough trained immigration officers to man the counters - which IMO is B.S - I’ve long suspected Immigration to be playing a ‘game’ to get increased funding… perhaps that’s something that’s genuinely needed.
  16. Op - we’re in Japan every year… (and also here in Japan right now - just checked in online while slow eaters finished their Ramen) Japan immigration are nothing like Korea who are particularly nasty towards Thai women in a tit-for-tat immigration battle (Thailand is also particularly hard on Koreans coming here)… She’ll have no issues entering Japan (I see plenty of single Thai women in the Immigration queue) - no need to worry about language issues… She’ll be able to work the transport out (all part of the experience !)… The excellent thing about Japan - no scams so she cab feel confident about stepping into the unknown. Easy come with AIS, True, DTAC - just get a roaming package for a week.
  17. Answering the Op: Grab, Bolt, InDrive… I’ve seen a few others such as ‘All Thai Taxi (yellow Prius) that aren’t on the list.
  18. Outstanding example of d!ckheadery…. …. Kind of like… Where is the best TomYum you’ve had in Thailand ?…. & some halfwit answers… “nowhere, I don’t like Thai food”…. … responses such as this are astonishing on a w.tf grade A1 level !!!!
  19. if you are supporting someone who’s posted the above comment - perhaps some toxicity should be directed towards you…
  20. There’s a difference…. Any comments I make which might be considered ‘toxic’ are directed at posters on here for their idiotic or vapid remarks… never at the deceased who can’t defend themselves….
  21. Urgh... thats rather horrific... What a horrible way to go, not just for him but all those around him too. I'd have been sh!#ing it on that flight... fear level 9 unlocked as I start to suspect something like hemorrhagic ebola... One question though: If he was so visibly unwell, how come the boarding crew (gate staff) didn't raise concern ?
  22. The link below highlights this... Preventing unlicenced Tourists from renting bikes..... just it was just another announcement after which nothing happened. Not just in Phuket (as per the AN article linked) but all over Thailand the Police were going to 'crack down' on shops renting out motorbikes to unlicensed tourists...
  23. OK... so you have an opinion... But to campaign people not to donate (in capitals too) indicates certain degree of callousness that leaves one wondering if thats your real nature.... A rather toxic comment IMO... OK so he didn't have insurance - did you when you went overseas in your 20's ???... did many of is ? Hands up - when I was over here in my 20's I didn't have insurance, I didn't even think about it, perhaps I was covered by my companies insurance, I'm not sure... one think I am sure of is that it was not something I even thought of. Like many, I was simply lucky. Knowing what I know now, I don't go anywhere without insurance, but to cast judgement on youngsters would be hypocritical. I'm wondering if it should mandatory for insurance to be compulsory for all travellers - i.e. a legal requirement when leaving your country to have health insurance ( and of course, legislation that doesn't exclude or price older folk and those with pre-existing conditions from travelling ).
  24. The temperature with these would be an issue I imagine... I lived in building which had a lot of metal (all of it was metal cladded / or glass windows)... the AC bill was about 15,000 baht per month !! and needed to be on 100% of the time....
  25. Thats the difficult part.. 'non social drinker'.... I am a social drinker and sometimes get the hiccups if I've been a little 'more social than I should' !!!... On occasion I have had hiccups when not drinking - over the years I've found holding my breath for as long as physically possible does the trick.
