Gordon Ramsay’s group set to open 14 restaurants in Thailand
You don't know that, perhaps tourists could never afford to go in his "cafes" in their home country, and what a photo opportunity.....????..........???? Plus, I reckon many a tourist will be thinking of McD's or B-King anyhooo, after a couple of days of Thai grub.........???? Exactly… In Dubai I don’t eat Arabic food every meal !!!.., there’s a good Ramsay restaurant on the Palm. One of the amazing things about Thailand is extent of the range & quality of the food from all over the world. The assumption by some that foreigners here only want Thai food all the time is very flawed.

Airport departure procedures
No, a re-entry permit is for a return visit from another county unless ‘special circumstances’ dictate. IF you are air-side & the flight is cancelled, the airline arrange a new flight & if there is a long wait they liaise with immigration to permit whatever arrangements need to be made such as re-entry to get out up in a hotel etc This happened to me a few years ago. Next available flight the following day. We were escorted through immigration, many were bussed to a hotel. I went home. Baggage remained ‘checked in’ & could not be collected.

2020 Volvo XC90 vs 2023 Mazda CX8
Correct. Very incorrect & well out of touch. Volvo feels more refined & is of a higher league… but not to the degree of difference you imply. I’ve owned both: 2018 XC-90 inscription 2018 CX-5 2.2 diesel.

Thai Driver's License Renewal (Visa Exempt)
Thats true... A number of years back I went to renew my licence and found out that I was a 'year out' and it was one year and one day out of date !!!... I have to go from scratch again with a 2 year Temp Licence.

Thai Driver's License Renewal (Visa Exempt)
I'm a bit confused by your comment. Do you mean that the DLT were not bothered about your Yellow House Book, but they processed your driving license based on your Pink ID ? (Which DLT in Bangkok was this) A couple of years ago I renewed my DL with my Yellow House Book and Pink ID - the did want a copy of my Pink ID so its possible that this was the key pieced of ID they wanted rather than the Yellow House Book. (DLT Area 3 in Bangkok - nr Sukhumvit 99).

Second hand car import / lift of ban
Indeed.... its absolutely obvious what was meant. Just when I think someone couldn't be more pedantic we bear witness to some pathetic next level nit-picking. There seems to be a degree of cognitive inflexibility that borders on a mental condition.

2020 Volvo XC90 vs 2023 Mazda CX8
I know it was an either or question, however, hove you considered the Kia carnival. I have a Mazda CX-5 here, excellent car. I had the XC-90 inscription in the UK while locked out of Thailand over covid. Both excellent cars, the Volvo is better.

Moca Pot
Bialetti is obviously the brand to go for if you are happy to pay for that - I use one when travelling and can't fault it for convenience (when camping and have no access to electricity etc) They have a range of models from Stainless-steel to Aluminium. I've just bought a Nespresso Vertuo Pop (7500 Baht) to use at work. I'm quite happy with the coffee it produces and its ridiculously convenient.

Thai Driver's License Renewal (Visa Exempt)
A Non-Immigrant type O Visa is considered as a 'resident visa'.... as such you will be (should be) eligible to renew to another 5 year licence. There has been varied experience to the use of the Yellow House Book as proof of address. At DLT Area 3 in Bangkok (near Sukhumvit 99) I have used the Yellow House Book as proof of address without issue, however, there have been reports on here that some DLT offices; such as Chonburi, will not accept Yellow House Book as proof of address. Mileage obviously varies. IF I'm not mistaken, if you have a Pink ID card, you may not be expected to show your passport at all. I can't quite remember for sure if upon my last renewal I presented a copy of my passport or not, I did show both my Yellow House Book and Pink ID and they took copies of both.

Second hand car import / lift of ban
Good point.. and from which country... We'd be able to work out how much he could sell it for in his home country, and how much he could buy the same car for here.
-
Second hand car import / lift of ban
I'm not so sure about that... no one else has rattled on with pedantic monotony about the word 'governments'.... Quite like a dog with a bone.
-
Second hand car import / lift of ban
The sensible option would be to sell your car in your home country and buy a car here. Look at one2car.com which will give you plenty of prices & options. As for the rest, I see our resident hair-splitting pedant is already destroying the thread.

Am I the only one using (Indian) 'cook in sauces'?
A number of years back I was working in India, I had the secretary plan a nice trip for a couple of days.. By the time I finished the project I was 'India'd out'... exhausted by the relentless attention, my instructions changed from "please arrange a great trip for a couple of days" to "get me on the next flight out of here" !!!.... When asked what was the best part of the work trip, I replied "hearing, Cabin crew, doors to automatic" !!!!! I returned a about a year later, refreshed and with the Wife (then GF), we hired a driver for 5 days, travelled around Delhi and Agra and had an amazing trip with incredible food.... but we had one rule, only eat in 'higher end' restaurants and 100% no street food or drinks.... .... I joked that we are perhaps the only visitors to Delhi who didn't get 'Delhi-Belly'... that single rule "Never eat anything on the street" prevented a ruined trip. That said... I find Indian food outside of India to be better. Other countries take cuisine from other countries and adapt and bastardise the dish towards local tastes.... usually its the British making it more bland, or Thai restaurants in the UK putting something like peas in a Green Curry etc... Conversely, with Indian food, I'd argue the British made it better and the 'British style Indian curries' are excellent... If you know what a Balti is, then you've probably eaten in a UK curry balti house. If you know what a Phaal is, then you've probably witnessed a mate crying into the spiciest curry he's ever eaten because of course you were never stupid enough to take the bet from your mates after 6 pints on a night out and order a Phaal yourself !!!!

sensible... Someone who "can't be taught anything about about laundry equipment" will be upset though, after all... 'Centrifugal force is to be reckoned with' !!!

Amazing iPhone 15
Absolutely agree... Its often difficult to have discussions about Apple / Android on forum such as this as people always start dropping the 'Apple Fan Boy' or 'Apple Hater' accusations when in reality people just use what they are familiar with. I remember making a switch to HTC, I didn't like it so switched to the Samsung S5 (their premium phone at the time - so thats how far back it was) - I was less than impressed and lasted about 8 months before switching back to Apple. I found the iPhoneX to be a huge upgrade (I'd stepped up from iPhone 7), I next purchased an iPhone 12 mini thinking I'd like the smaller size, I didn't... I went to a 12 Pro Max... I didnt like that size either. I settled on the iPhone 13 (standard) which I've used for about 22 months - its been great and I've no reason to change it. Price is obviously what most people are shouting about and I too find Apple products expensive... thus, I was looking at a switch but the other decent standard phones are also expensive - Xiaomi 13 Pro and thats 39,990 Baht so no cheaper than the Apple. - Oppo Find X5 Pro - 35,900 baht, Thus: Is the switch from Apple worth it at all ?? Those comparing their 3 year old 8000 baht Oppo with a new iPhone and suggesting that the iPhones are too expensive are not making a balance comparison. Compare a 8000 baht Oppo Phone with the iPhone X (even though the iPhone x is a number of years old) and the comparison may be more realistic. IMO - its better to buy a iPhone thats a year or two old and get better value. Ultimately - people are going to prefer to stay with what they know... there's nothing wrong with that. The fools who start levying accusation at others are complete tools - its like arguing over which car is more suitable for us, or which laptop or desk top etc...

Shoei fitment
In that case fair enough.... Although be very careful of the 'shop' as there are fakes around. I can confirm Paddok sells the genuine product, I've purchased 3 helmets from there (2 Shoei and 1x AGV). I can't speak with certainty as I have never compared Shoei open face with full face helmets, however, have you the option to try on a different Shoei model and check the size ? I imagine a brand of that standard should offer consistent sizing across the range.

How to throw out my girlfriend's son out of the house?
There it is... more halfwitted sweeping generalisations from someone lacking the self awareness to comprehend the stupidity of their comments... I imagine that there are many who have dated / are dating women and have married women who already had kids and they are enjoying extremely rewarding relationships.

Get what? That you are very pompous? Already knew. You are insecure so you try to make yourself feel better by getting on your high horse. Yup.. you are no way near clever enough to understand the comment... Buffalo is indeed quite apt. Keep on going trying to get a rise out of everyone... you're one of the most entertaining fools on this forum... 'in a laugh at and shake your head at the stupidity' kind of way !!!...

Amazing iPhone 15
They were actually forced to by the EU which signed off on a new law which forced manufactures of all phones to utilise USB-C for all phones sold in the EU from 2024.
