Brit 'dumped' in Thailand after his flight home is cancelled
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
A very harsh outlook which highlights you as somewhat of a tool !! The guy budgeted for a holiday.... Purchased a well priced ticket in advance. Now the airline has cancelled the flight without providing a viable alternative option. The tourist is now stuck with no reasonable return flight home, flights are currently extortionate and well beyond any budget he may have accounted for. The tourist is now going to go well above budget to travel home for no fault of his own... then we have these guys saying... I feel nothing for this guy !!!... IF an airline is going to cancel a flight the ONLY fair option is to provide an alternative ‘similar’ means of transport as close to the travel date and time as possible. Any Airline which simply ‘cancels’ flights and just says ‘you can apply for a refund’ is operating despicably IMO and they should be held accountable.- 251 replies

There's an absence of ‘reality’ in many of the ‘examples’ people are presenting... The ‘grey area’ in which we all live involves a lot of discretion which ‘black and white’ thinking and arguments simply do not fit... these are the realities of life whether we like it or not or agree with it or not. The area has a reputation... nobody to goes to this area not knowing the reputation. I would be extremely Naive if I were to go to this area with my Wife and then expect a perfectly ’normal’ evening without any issue whatsoever.... the possibilities of ’someone being rude or inappropriate’ are just too high - as such we’d be foolish to go to such an area.
-
Valid point..... Did he go full on ‘Jack-Black’ ?? (see link below)... or pat her on the bum?... was there any communication ???... ... was she a Karen looking for outrage ?... or is this a case of ‘please leave me alone’ and the tourist wouldn’t... .... It hasn’t been stated yet.. But no one would think to go up and ‘inappropriately touch’ a female policeman? in that area... Also, no one would think to go up and ‘inappropriately touch’ anyone in a normal shopping mall... .... So - the combination of that area and appearance must defiantly have played a factor, which is what most people are suggesting... that doesn’t make it right, nevertheless, those are the realities of life in the ‘grey area’.... ... The Grey Area ??? what is that you ask ???... its the area of life in which most of us life and operate, we use discretion and get by just fine. Then something happens and people argue this ‘grey area’ form the perspectives of ‘black and white’.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KuD0Q8HTBI

Buying a Campervan in Thailand #Vanlife
richard_smith237 replied to CrossBones's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
plenty of camping grounds in Thailand if you bother to look. Having bothered to look.... Did you find that any of those have an electrical hookup or dumping stations ????? Or, was your only ‘bother’ to provide an unhelpful and irrelevant response ???? -
Yes, you are correct, women have no right to walk down public streets without being sexually assaulted… ???? They're your words not mine !!!... Highly unintelligent of you to make up your own argument present it as mine with a sarcastic tone to virtue signal a point score People entering a hedonistic area and expecting purity are naive or stupid, or both, as are those who fail to understand this and comment as you have in this thread. Everyone has a right to be anywhere (with in legal bounds) - But, it seems you lack the capacity to account for the environment with an application of common sense. Of course you can continue virtue singling and accuse those posting with common sense as victim-blaming, but the area will not change, the lady is also accountable for her own safety and she entered the area knowing what it was like.
-
Pretty irrelevant, unless you wanna continue your victim blaming. Its highly relevant. While everyone agrees that no person should be touched indecently by a stranger without first inviting such behaviour there are also the realities of the location to consider. It would be naive to assume the world is perfect especially in such an area - this is not blaming the victim, the incident should still not have happened - but we have to recognise the world for what it is.

As a foreigner there is one critical document that is needed to have a vehicle registered in your name. - You need a proof of address. There are three main types of proof of address, one of them is needed: 1) Affirmation of Residence from your Embassy. 2) Yellow Tabien Baan House Book. 3) Certificate of Residence from Immigration. All have their pros and cons: 1) Depends on country: i.e. British Embassy will not issue this Affirmation letter if you are on a Tourist Visa or entered Visa exempt (they want to see what they consider a resident visa). 2) Yellow Book, useful if you’ve already got it, but involves a lot of legwork (paper work) to get this - and according to forum comments a couple of DLT’s i.e. Pattaya / Chonburi do not accept it for some reason) 3) Immigration ‘may’ only issue a certificate of residence if you have carried out a 90 day report. This seems to vary, Chiang Mai apparently will issue, Chaeng Wattana apparently won’t without a 90 day report.
-
Not really... In Pattaya and Chiang Mai maybe more so, but in Bangkok the police are really not that bothered about setting up check-points, or about foreigners. The last time I was stopped was a good few years ago, I flipped open my helmet and they just waved me on, not interested. If you have your documents (licence, tax, copy of green book etc) there is nothing to be concerned about.

Yet again, different rules for different shops,I brought a new bike cash ,just copy of passport ,and visa, and yellow house registration book, no immigration certificate. The joys of speaking Thai ,I went on my own ,it is all in my name. The rules and the requirements are exactly the same whether you speak Thai or not !!! You just switched out the residence certificate from Immigration for your Yellow House book as proof of address.....

‘Selective attention’ is already a major factor in Thailand. I’ve noticed it between driving an expensive and large SUV vs a very small car. I’ve also noticed the difference in how other traffic notices me when riding a normal larger motorcycle vs a regular scooter. I think on an e-bike we may just become invisible. I did consider the option instead of a scooter, but for the many of the reasons the video highlights I figured against it, and also because its lighter its just far far easier to steal when parked outside the supermarket etc - its just not as convenient for Thailand. Just this week I saw a guy riding amongst traffic on an electric ‘foot scooter’ (not the motorcycle type, the stand up type)... with smaller wheels like that one pot-hole and he’s off, far more unstable and slower than the traffic around him a lot of drivers were not giving him any space at all when squeezing by... lunacy !...

Thanks for that. I'm a lover of Pitbulls and I've never come across a nasty one. The message portrayed by Bday Prang is not true... Proportionately there are more attacks by pitbulls, and when hey attack they do so with fare more devastating effect. A couple of friends have pitfalls and they’re lovely dogs because the owners know what they are doing. To many owners can’t look after dogs properly.
-
What you say above is more accurate is you replace "soi dogs" with "humans." We are the real "vermin" and cancer that is destroying all life on this planet. Thats because you believe a soi dog has more rights than you !!... I don’t think like that, I believe that in pretty much every aspect I have far more rights than a dog, particularly a soi dog, as do my loved ones and most other humans.

Foreigner Kills Two Teenage Girls In Songkhla Crash
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
Somewhat impractical... do we slow down and come to a near halt every time there is a car on the side of the road which is positioned as if it could pull out ??? In such circumstances the act of slowing down could trigger the car to believe the motorcycle (or vehicle) is giving way and ‘trigger’ the other car to go... Or as I mentioned, slowing down without reason may cause another accident from behind. This was just a normal road on a normal day and a car pulled out straight into the road without looking properly, tragic and terrible consequences. I’m not sure what ‘realistic’ driving habits these girls could have employed to prevent the incident ? Helmet? yes... would it have made a difference ?? Slower riding, perhaps? Coming to a halt, just in case, yes... but when riding around its highly impractical too. -
Foreigner Kills Two Teenage Girls In Songkhla Crash
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Southern Thailand News
Have you actually looked at the video clip? The driver pulled out when the motorbike was almost on him, the poor girls had zero chance. A classic case of a driver looking right, nothing, looking left traffic - wait from the traffic to pass - then go! He failed to look to his right again, and two girls died because of that omission. I think thats what he means by hazard perception... But, it would be quite impractical to come to a halt and give way to every vehicle at the side of the road which looks like it may pull out, additionally, doing so adds to the risk of another vehicle hitting you from behind. Could the girls have avoided this accident???... Sadly, only with 20/20 hindsight. Could they have avoided death, perhaps by wearing a helmet and riding more slowly when there was a car at he side of the road looking like it may pull out, again 20/20 hindsight. This is perhaps one of those incidents where even riding defensively we are at great risk. Personally, when riding a motorcycle I do not like seeing vehicles at the side of the road, I much prefer that there is another vehicle between me and them which makes ‘us’ more visible. -
The greater point you address is far more significant and multifaceted than the simple issue of soi dogs. Soi dogs should not be there, like rats they are vermin. They are not like other animals and species needed for the benefit of the ecosystem and environment. Soi dogs only exist because we do, they would not thrive without us. They are stray pseudo domesticated animals and should not be free to roam areas where they may cause harm to people - this specific issue has a solution, the solution is black and white, the problem is black and white... This is a very different discussion to that of the importance of animals in the ecosystem and the impact mankind has on that ecosystem - overlapping the two is an attempt to muddy some very simple waters.

Fair enough - I figured they’d be written in Thai... but you are correct. Our car is written in English (MAZDA) in the Blue Book.. Its the green book think thats throwing me... I just can’t fathom how this is so. Unless its one of those... ‘Oh we’ve got no blue books left, just thrown the details in the green book for now’... but that still seems very strange... or a trainee was working that day !!! I’d actually be concerned about what happens come ’sale time’... I assume its As is norm here, nothing is quite straight forward ! Interesting... I wonder if that is ‘word of mouth’... or from an official source? There needs to be something in place to cover the extended space / rear seat/tray space... but I suspect this will just be ignored and enforced as and when the BiB feel like it. Lets face it, this seatbelt law isn’t going to be enforced anyway !!

There is more to the story... The TukTuk driver is complaining that he Singaporean only want to go from Paragon to Chong Nonsi... at Chong Nonsi the tourist wanted to go further to Surasak... (and additional 1.2km to the 4.4km already driven). There was a communication problem... the Singaporean thinking the TukTuk driver was pulling a fast one, the TukTuk driver getting angry because the Singaporean will not pay him for the additional distance. Of course - the whole issue and is publicised through an underlying distrust that the TukTuk driver will attempt to scam a tourist... .... Could it be that this video is like one of those published by those moronic ‘first amendment auditors’ ??? i.e. where people stand outside police stations or businesses and deliberately trigger others working there for online content.
