  1. K1 generally learn/play in the morning. Have lunch then sleep in the afternoon. As the kids enter K2 they start to be weened off the sleeping in the afternoon. Those that want to sleep can do. Those that wake up are encouraged to take part in activities. K3 I'd generally full on. Desks and chairs, blackboard and books. Study is of course full of fun and student involvement to keep the kids attentive. Study ends at 4pm. That is generally the system in private schools. Government schools usually have K1 and K2. Then the real study starts in P1. The ages are the same when entering P1 as private schools tend to start K1 a year earlier. I imagine experiences vary significantly... timing is a little different with the schools we chose... (a little shorter and no sleep time) otherwise the ‘general gist of things’ is quite similar. Playgroup: 1-2 years old (2-3 times per week - accompanied by parents). International School K1: At 2-3 years old... Drop him off at 9, pick up at 12pm - Three days per week. (can do more or less days / that depends on parents preference) K2: At 3-4 years old... Drop him off at 9, pick up at 1pm - Four days per week. (can do more or less days / that depends on parents preference) K3: At 4-5 years old.. Drop him off at 9, pick up at 1pm - Four days per week. (I think we had to do 4 days) At Big well known International School. Y1 (5-6) / Y2 (6-7) / Y3 (7-8) / Y4: 8-9) Drop him off at 7:30, pick up at 2:30pm - Five days per week. Y1 to Y3: ECAs from 2:30 to 3:30pm From Y4 can do 2 ECA’s... (2:30-4:30pm)
  2. There are three kindergarten classes in Thailand, K1, K2 and K3 – followed by six primary school classes, P1 to P6 – so school rather begins at the age of three to four...???? It actually varies between schools / Kindergartens / Nurseries / International and local systems... The name, whether they call it a school or Kindergarten is somewhat irrelevant... What is relevant is what the children are up to at those ‘places’ - a professional ‘place’ (School or Kindergarten) will tailor their programs to the childrens age.... younger kids will be spending most of their time learning through play etc... The ‘actual school as we know it’... i.e. emphasis on literacy; learning to read and write etc, numeracy etc... starts at about 5 years old at most schools in Thailand. I know some (i.e. Singapore International School) that start a little earlier.
  3. Yep... I understand that... BUT... what duration of ‘staying at your address in the UK’ is acceptable to be considered ‘resident’ ??? Is simply having an address that you stay at sometimes, good enough ? OR, is there some stipulation of days ?
  4. Option a then !!!... No idea if its going to hard or simple... turns out very simple... Its good to know the result... I suspect the fines just get sent out by a computer and AI didn’t quite get the number plate right.
  5. Maybe good info for the Op if you let him (us) know the cost of the good lawyer and how long the process took.
  6. Fight back how? By posting strong comments on Aseannow.com about how much of a pussy you are not !!!! ???? I suppose you could be stubborn, but is it really worth it ?... Do you really want to rent from someone who wants you out ?... In this case I’d ask the owner for the full deposit back and allow some time (i.e. 1 month) to look for another property deducting any moving costs from the last months rent. But ultimately, if a ‘tenant’ wants to be stubborn and awkward, the landlord can make it a lot more awkward for them.
  7. No... you are missusing words... Kindergarten isn’t school... For the first coupe of years - playgroups where toddlers learn interaction with others is important - its just a couple of hours in the morning and parents are present. Kindergarten then takes over at about 2-3 yrs old... its a 2-3 hours in the morning and is perfect for a childs development - interacting, playing with others kids. Actual school as we know it starts at about 5 years old... Which is why its so important not to just keep them at home - get them out doing things, interacting with other children - playgroups and kindergartens are the idea stage for this. You're projecting... I don’t know anyone who thinks like that. Also group play and learning social skills etc. I don’t know of pre-school, nursery or kindergartens that go on after 2pm. Perhaps some Thai schools do, I’m not sure about that. My Son International school day finishes at 2:30pm (he’s 9). I agree... but not only at home.. also outside of the home at Kindergarten for a few hours a day. I'm not so sure - get the child out and about, mixing with other children is advantageous. Not if they are stuck at home all day with a parent (or au pair). Thats part of the development... parallel play and progression from there.. Plenty of children ‘group play’ early on at 4 years old.... Some might... I get that. ... there you said it.. and around your local community... and kindergarten and early stages learning helps massively with the development... Not ‘every school’ is institutionalised in the sense I think you mean it... The great schools are incredibly enjoyable for kids.
  8. sounds like your a teacher, you got something to hide ? Why would you not want parents checking on their kids ? You sound very fishy erm... ‘reads' like you need a teacher !!!! ???? It would be wrong of any school to allow parents to walk around and into classrooms unannounced. You sound like an overbearing parent if you think that behaviour is acceptable. I trust the professionals at my sons school, they do a fantastic job. If I turned up to ‘walk into my sons class in the middle of the day’ I doubt I’d get past security. I’d question why you would feel the need to ‘check up on the school in such a manner’.... if you feel that way, you should be questioning the choice of school.
  9. A number of years ago as I was slowing for some traffic lights I was pulled to the side of the road by the Police. I was told I was speeding, that there was a camera further back which caught me. I asked, but they couldn’t tell me how fast I was going. I asked the speed limit, one of them said 95, the other said 90kmh !!!.... I said I was going 80 kmh... A bit of a standoff.... In the end I just said either write me a ticket or let me go... I suspect they were just chancing it... But.. its not a big deal... I probably break the speed limit more than I get fined for it... so I’m not bothered if I get caught. We don’t pay the fines we receive by post anyway. I’m not sure how many outstanding fines we currently have (usually about 125kmh on the express way).... The system is somewhat flawed - they still get sent to my Wife’s parents address in Bangkok... Wife is registered at our house for 14 years (DL / ID / the car - all registered at out house, so I’ve no idea how the fines get to her parents address !)...
  10. I was wondering why you don't like England He read that they are horrible in a newspaper...
  11. But there are things called newspapers. And there is a thing called the EPL. ... can’t fix stupid !!! ???? And then double down on the stupidity..... believing the newspapers !!!....???? So you think the England team are horrible, especially Pickford, Foden, Grealish, Trippier because you read it in a newspaper... thats some priceless grade A1 dumbfluckery right there !!! Quite right, can’t fix stupid !!!.... The funny thing about dumb people... Its like being dead... they don’t know they are dead, its only painful for everyone else !!!! ????
  12. Nothing outs a poster as being so outrageously halfwitted as posts such as this... ... passing judgement on people they admit to not watching !!!.. ... can’t fix stupid !!! ????
  13. Mileage varies... At Immigration in Bangkok, you need to have submitted a 90 day report to get a Certificate of Residence. According to reports on here, in Chiang Mai, they’ll just give you one (no matter if you have done your 90 day report or not). Also.. The British Embassy will only give you an Affirmation of Address If you are on a ‘long term visa’ (i.e. resident Visa - Non Imm visa or Thai Elite etc).... But, other Embassies are not so picky and will give you an Affirmation of Address even if you are on visa exempt.... Thus: Experiences vary...
  14. Is it something exotic... or just a Honda or Toyota etc ? If the latter, then its just a car, keep it clean and don’t worry too much about it... As Gsxrnz mentioned... after the first stone chip it won’t matter to you so much. I look after our cars... but I don’t want to be ‘owned by the things I own’.... At a shopping mall get it cleaned... if you fancy it, get them to wax it while you shop... no need to over think it...
  15. Brilliant story.... I recall arranging to get picked up by my Wife.... She was driving along Sukhumvit Rd.... Grey Car... we were on the phone, she said she was close... I saw her car as it stopped in traffic in front of me, I stepped to the car, opened the passenger door to get in..... ..... The poor girl in the passenger seat was horrified, it wasn’t my Wife... Just another girl in the same car !!!!
  16. No I’m not sure... I’ve had plenty of cars and motorcycles of many years... but the ’specifics of ownership vs registration’ are not something I’ve looked into... hence why I asked the question... Is registration the same as ownership ??? - You seem very confident in your answer so it seems that the Blue Book does state ‘owner of the vehicle’ or ‘registered owner of the vehicle’ rather than 'vehicle registered to.....' So, I think we can close that question - you’ve answered it quite clearly. Name in blue book = owner.
  17. I don’t know about that... We get speeding ticket & don’t pay them... nothing is ever done about it. This is one of those things where Thailand can excel one way or another. a) DLT deals with it very efficient and simply cancels the fine. b) Op ends up on a wild circular goose-chase. ------ Thailand is incredible how some simple things can become extremely convoluted and what we think may be convoluted, to our surprise are extremely efficient... such is the enigma that is Thailand.
  18. Simple - Turn left when ‘safe to do so’... The oncoming traffic, turning to their right has ‘right of way’. *IF signage permits so, turn left when clear. *Not all junctions permit turning left at a red light, some junctions have signs which state ‘left turn on red prohibited’... Not really a big deal - If its clear, just turn left unless there is an obvious sign.
  19. Seems they weren’t so bothered about you having your UK DL at a PO box !!!... and here we are discussing the issue in great detail, perhaps more detailed or bothered about it than the DVLA are !!! But, for the purposes of the discussion... there are unanswered questions. I'm still wondering... If I live at that UK address for 6 months a year is the UK DL Legal ? If I live at that UK address for 4 months a year is the UK DL Legal ? If I live at that UK address for 2 months a year is the UK DL Legal ? If I live at that UK address for 7 weeks a year is the UK DL Legal ? Is there a cut off ??? at which point the DVLA classify a person as ’not living at an address’ thus voiding their driving licence ????
  20. Are you sure of that ??... He has receipts and can prove he purchase the car. The car is ‘registered' in the exGF’s name... Is registration the same as ownership ??? Do you know that ??? or are you assuming that ? He has receipts of purchase. You are making statements as if they are facts... Do you know this for certain, or are you guessing what my happen ? - which may or may not. IF the Op can prove ownership with receipts - would a court definitely rule in favour of who is in registration document ? Its always so easy for others to tell others to walk away from money... never so easy when its your own money.
  21. Last year was worth 189k. Now it is worth even less. If old gf does not want to give you the register book, forget about it. This cheap car is not worth the trouble and money. Easiest solution, buy a new car in your name. You'd walk way from 189k baht ???... they probably see you coming !!... If the Op is buying a car for 189,000 baht, it's already because money is tight, otherwise he’d have bought something newer / better. So easy of you to tell someone else to walk away from over $5000.... outstanding advice. That amount of money maybe insignificant to a keyboard millionaire as yourself... to others, it matters.
  22. I get that... but it also seems there is a ‘large grey area’... which may not even be a grey area. There is no mention of ’duration’ made by the DVLA as far as I can tell. Thus: for the purposes of the DVLA and holding a UK Driving Licence I have not yet seen anything which provides clarity and suggests that its incorrect or illegal to use our UK address if we stay at that same address intermittently throughout the year (i.e. twice per year, a few weeks in winter and a few weeks in summer).
  23. I'm not sure the DVLA applies any relevance to ‘resident status’... Additionally - IF true and the UK DVLA were to stipulate that a person has to be a UK resident for a minimum of 183 days per year, then that would prevent all rotational workers from being able to get a UK licence.... (i.e. those working a month on and month off - i.e. O&G workers, those working on ships etc) This is obviously not the case.
  24. Another point which may be relevant is as word we are throwing around... ‘Resident’... Does the DVLA state we must have resident status in the UK to hold a UK licence. OR, do we just have to have a UK address ? (i.e. are some people making up their own statements and presenting them as fact ?). The two separate terms ‘UK address' and 'Resident status’ have different implications.
  25. Well, it appears you have a two UK licences... The Green&Pink Paper Licence (registered at your parents house) is no longer valid. It would be superseded by the Pink Licence which is registered at your ‘rental property’. Thus: I your case, I’d agree that no, you are not living at that property. IF your Pink Card Licence was registered at your parents property, you could claim that is your UK address (If my comments below are not incorrect). I’m not sure the payment of council tax has any relevance to the DVLA and licensing. Paying council tax also depends on your ‘earning status’ thus... IF not earning in the UK and living with your parents when in the UK - I don’t believe there is any requirement to pay council tax.
