So a female shopper in Foodland may quite reasonably be expect some farang to grab her bottom, crotch, or breasts at 2 am. Her fault. Thinking otherwise would just be "woke," get over it, move on. Our lads havin' a bit o' fun. I'm seeing a good case in this thread for further tightening of visas. ???? Does your Wife go to Foodland in Pattaya Walking Street at 2am ???? This is different than going to to Foodland on Thonglor Bangkok at 2pm.... We all agree, it shouldn’t be... But it is... And if that needs explanation then you are either being deliberately obtuse, or are simply just stupid.

Creaking front suspension (not in the wet)
richard_smith237 replied to JeffersLos's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Creaking front suspensions... ... Check the engine mounts... Of course, not all issues are the same... But, I was sure there was an issue with my front right suspension.... I was away at work.. Wife took the car in... (under warranty)... all reported as ok.. noise was normal. 4 months later (and out of warranty), the car was still ‘creaking’ when going over a bump.... just not right. Wife took it in, they changed a little part of the suspension (not sure what)... I took the car for a ‘check’ test drive.. mechanic was happy, I wasn’t... I was told I was driving too fast !! hitting the speed bumps too hard, thats why it was making this noise. I asked if the cars I’m following are expected to make the same noise ? !!!! I asked why it wasn't making this same noise last year ??? I asked if I could borrow another car for a test drive and see if that makes the same noise !!!... Bingo.... my point was understood... I had no idea what the issue was... but they were serious about changing the whole suspension. It just didn’t feel like a suspension issue... the suspension ‘felt' fine.. the noise was weird... especially when going over a bump while breaking... I wasn’t going to pay for suspensions parts until we were sure. They investigated further and found the issue... the engine mount... the rubber had worn, the mount eventually disconnected, wore and broke, the engine was loose at that corner (the issue wasn’t spotted months earlier)... -

In this case yes... because your comment was not independent of opinion, it was presented as judgement... I remind you of what you wrote: [I have never seen a woman whose appearance was improved by tattoos.] IF you really have no opinion, then you have no comment, ergo - your need express your opinion belies your underlying opinion that you do not like tattoos on females.... On males ?... I’ve no idea, your preference remains concealed.... Why is it a concern ?? why is it any greater a concern over people dying their hair or adopting varying hair-styles or other fashion over time ? (even if it lasts a life-time?) Steady on Gertrude... ease up on the protestation.. You project... are tattoos not a sign of independence? freedom of thought? no-conformity? sticking-it-up-to-the-man?.. Where is the line drawn these days ??? Or sometimes its a sign of independence.. or or sometimes its nothing other than a tattoo... the same as ‘I like that jumper’.... or ’those nikes’.. or those ‘Dr Martens’... But really, who cares... If everyone behaves... -

Brit 'dumped' in Thailand after his flight home is cancelled
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You might like to read my previous post. That's the risk you take when you take a point to point LCC. They have no alternative solution to offer other than give you your money back. No interline agreement, means no other options. Just be aware of that and if you're OK with the risk go for it This is the attitude of the airlines - IMO, its wholly wrong. What you say (write)... is ‘buy this product at your own risk’... thats completely wrong of any industry to act like this. -
Girls and Tatoos, how much is too much ?

Just like any facet of our bodies.. as we age, far less appealing... Tattooed or not any physical part of a 60 year old is far less appealing than that same part of the same person at 25 year old... we’re just wired that way. -

Wrong.... An exceptionally good looking lady (or person) looks good with or without tattoos !!! A true measure of class is to have a field of vision beyond skin and what marks appear on that skin.... -

the variables, the difference... its all a spectrum and the colours shift with the tide of evolving attitudes.... A tattoo, like clothing, depends how and where its worn... but also how it's viewed. Sometimes the viewer is uncivilised, sometimes opinionated, sometimes over judgmental.... Ultimately, who really cares ???? -

Narita (Tokyo) airport restaurants still closed?
richard_smith237 replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Thailand Travel Forum
Hedge your bets... Pack your salmon sandwiches and bin ‘em for the Ramen if there’s an open place.... Really though... a valid question: Airports (and countries) in the east have handled Covid so differently... (no argument about which is ‘more’ better’er - there is still so much unknown)... But for sure... Even in two months ago Airports in Thailand were relative Ghost towns... -
Getting an International Driving License in Thailand
richard_smith237 replied to ezzra's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Can you get an IDP from the Thai DLT if you are holding a 2 year temp Thai Driving license ? If I’m not mistaken you need the 5 yr license. Just something to check & be aware of. -
Brit 'dumped' in Thailand after his flight home is cancelled
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Wrong... It took Qatar Airlines over 5 months to return £1800 I’d paid for a flight they cancelled. I’m still fighting with Turkish over compensation for a denied boarding claim. Qatar are refusing any compensation for a 7 hour change in schedule of a connecting flight, I was not even notified of the change which they’d made two days before hand. Emirates had a major delay which impacted my arrival at destination by over 36 hours. Saying you will ‘never have problems’ just because you pay with a credit card is utter tosh... IF you fly a lot at the moment, there is a possibility you will face issue... such as cancelled flights, massive delays, denied boarding due to over booking (fewer flights, more of them full to the brim), then there are all the baggage issues... And.. what will travel insurance give him ???? a refund on his costs.. It will not allow him to book a more expensive fight because his existing flight was cancelled, it just guarantees him refund if the airline refuses. -

Brit 'dumped' in Thailand after his flight home is cancelled
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The airlines are getting away with a lot of poor service at the moment.... In the past couple of months I’ve had: - Qatar Airways - in Doha: connecting flight delayed by 7 hours (meaning a 9 hr layover). - Turkish - in Istanbul: Denied boarding (connecting flight full) travel delayed by 24 hrs - Emirates - in UK: 9 hour delay, missed connection, +36 hrs delay to Thailand arrival (EUR 600 compensation is apparently coming). Many of these issues are perhaps unavoidable - the issue is the poor communication from the airlines. Emirates were ok. Qatar and Turkish hideous. But to cancel a flight completely and not offer a solution is outrageous. -
I've been given the advantage because I was a foreigner when I argued... "our driving training is to a high standard, now who do you think is telling the truth, me, that I indicated, or him that I didn’t?" Funnily enough the police went with me !!.. But, yes, my anecdote perhaps does not transfer to everyone or every situation.. language and communication is often the key issue. I find that as a foreigner we often get treated more favourably or with equal indifference to the Thai’s around is... this is perhaps area specific and down to how we are behaving... perhaps even who we are with. I too have heard that argument from a Thai person, but they are usually extremely uneducated people using a flawed logic to try and escape some sort of responsibility... they are clutching at any possible straw... I read these comments more than I hear them... But when I do hear them its usually from someone who I suspect to actually be quite stupid !!! (usually an acquaintance, friend of a friend of a friend type scenario after a game of football pitch) Apologies... I have a poor tolerance for ‘the foreigner’ is always at fault type comments which is perpetuated by people well out of the know.

Buying a Campervan in Thailand #Vanlife
richard_smith237 replied to CrossBones's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Given the price of labor in Thailand I wonder if retro fitting a van would be a reasonable alternative ? That said: There are campsites etc... which have tents etc usually occupied in the cooler months, particularly around Khao Yai and further north... But none of them are set up for an RV / Cambrian type vehicle with power-points next to the pitch... and area’s to get rid of grey and black waste. Another facet is that ‘touring’ in Thailand is incredibly cheap, with ‘bungalows’ everywhere for a few 100 baht per night... so the ‘camping thing’ given the heat and humidity is no where near as popular as it is in cooler countries. I’ve toured with campers / caravans all over the UK, Europe and New Zealand.... it is not something I think works here - Thailand is just not set up properly for that. I’ve travelled around Thailand... what does work is hotels and small resorts etc..... its just set up that way. -
Brit 'dumped' in Thailand after his flight home is cancelled

Find yourself low on funds towards the end of a holiday you’d closely budgeted for and see how you feel when an airline simply cancels your flight and does not provide any alternative solution. Your comment is wholly unsympathetic and nasty.- 251 replies
