Are suggesting that Thai’s do not race their motorcycles on the streets ???? IF so, you are very wrong. In certain areas young Thai males at night are an absolute nuisance and the police can do very little to stop them. These Arabs are behaving just as badly. We disagree... the constant barrage of noise here is sometimes overwhelming... Peace and quiet is not valued to anywhere near the same degree here as it is in the West.

It's not as if the peace and quiet is held sacred in Thailand and no authorities seem to care if the roads are kept safe. ... So this ‘outrage’ is rather hypocritical to say the least... These tools come here and behave like this because they can... if the police are to lazy and not stopping locals from behaving antisocially and riding dangerously how can they expect ayhole foreigners be stopped ???? No... Do any of these ’tourists’ who rent these motorcycles have licences ????.... Wasn’t all this supposed to be stopped years ago with the insistence on licenses to rent motorcyclist ?? Thailand - IF you want to complain, get your own house in order. IF you (Thailand) were following the regulations, these motorcycles would never be rented out in the first place to young men who very likely do *not have motorcycle licences (and with almost certainly do not have international licences to accompany a local motorcycle license (if they did have one)). Thus: renting out these motorcycles to these guys is very likely illegal in the first place. *someone (I know who) is very likely to pipe up and point out that I don’t know these guys do not have a motorcycle licence... but really, its the same pattern that has been happening for years, and when these guys lop off the top of their scull on a street sign after failing to navigate a corner the reports always say they did not have a MB licence.

Amazing how the world has changed... I ‘knuckle’ the lift buttons etc... .... I now thing twice and look for the sanitiser gel before eating a burger or sandwich etc when out and about....

Given the past couple of years I’m kind of with the Op on this. I’m a ‘hand-shaker’.... I shake hands with friends when I meet or see them for the first time in a week or so... Some guys (who I play football with) have become ‘fist bumpers’... that doesn’t bother me at all, it makes sense and it's quicker. So... IF the op is going to bars etc and doesn’t wish to shake hands and chooses to fist-bump instead, I think thats fine. He’s still offering a greeting.... IF people are going to become offended by that, then perhaps the ‘fist-bump’ has become a good filter to avoid the over-sensitive tools !!!

I wonder if the PSAS site would work for this. https://www.thailandpsas.com/SignIn The Op is correct that he needs an RT-PCR negative cert to enter Qatar. -------------------- A Negative RT-PCR certificate is NOT required if Transiting through Hamad (Doha) Airport. A Negative RT-PCR certificate IS required if travelling into / staying in Qatar. https://covid19.moph.gov.qa/EN/travel-and-return-policy/Pages/default.aspx The Op likely fits into ‘Group D - Visitors’ [Non residents / Non Gulf Coast Citizens]. IF the Op is an EU National, he does not need a Negative RT-PCR certificate. IF the Op is not an EU National and travelling with Thai Family, he and is Thai family need a Negative RT-PCR certificate to enter Qatar.

The REAL EV vehicle discussion thread.....

Agreed... When an ICE vehicle has a warranty of 5 years or 100,000 miles... I think, if something goes wrong outside of warranty its going to be something like replacing a gasket, an engine mount etc... nothing major within the engine fails. With an EV I have no idea what can go wrong, if its the brakes, fine, we’re used to that. If its bushing on an electric motor at one of the wheels, will that whole motor need replacing or can the individual part be repaired ?.... OR, if something goes wrong in the battery is it the whole battery that needs replacing, which effectively writes off the car (as it will likely cost more to replace the battery than the value of the car). IF manufacturers are confident that their batteries will last 8 years... put an 8 year warranty on the battery and don’t limit it to 100,000miles. My current car is 4 years old (or 5, I’m not sure), I like it, we’ll probably keep it for another 3-4 or 5 years, who knows.... at the end it will still have resale value. Will an EV which is outside of Warranty have a resale value? (perhaps its too early to tell). Another question: Will extended warranties be available for EV’s ? -
I found Xarelto to be available (on order) from the Pharmacy on the second floor above Big-C Ekammai. https://www.safeandsavepharmacy.com/ติดต่อเรา/ We could call them up and make an order (they want money upfront) we could make an online transaction / payment to the person in the shop and they would order the Xarelto (Rivoroxaban). (I since get it sent over from the UK every 4 months). If you go to any large pharmacy they should be able to order it for you (not boots or watsons). Some info in both of these threads. https://aseannow.com/topic/823858-xarelto/ https://aseannow.com/topic/1169080-xarelto-available-in-thailand/

Or I wanted further clarification from someone who is an owner and can answer real-world scenarios I would find myself in IF I were to become an EV owner. Thats why I asked... I don’t own an EV, I don’t know if there is battery drain or not - Does your car have a 400km range? or is that cutting it too close - do you prefer to leave 100kms in the back-pocket... weather variation, temperature changes etc? how much impact does that have to the battery (i.e. using more AC etc). So, as per your answer. 200kms drive there. Sit the car there for 3-4 days. Drive 200kms back. No issues - or is there ? I’ve watched a lot of vids in the UK about real world EV use, most seem to highlight difficulties (I know you don’t care about the UK... but that can be an indication of how things may be here, i.e. with many charging stations out of order, or in use with a 1 hr wait until the next one is ready etc). Asking a question for a real world scenario may seem silly to you. I don’t know anything about EV’s, hence the question. Is it feasible to drive 200kms, park up (no charge station) and drive 200kms back - if the range is only 300km, I’d need to charge on the way (1 hr added to the journey ?). Minor planning???... I asked your advice... why do you feel the need to turn into a d!ck in every discussion that is held on this forum ?.... You are the one experienced with EV’s... is answering a few questions too hard ? No-one can travel around the world in an EV without major issues... you’re being silly - thats not a real world scenario. I won’t ask you anymore questions... You repeatedly prove you are incapable of having a mature discussion without turning into a grade A1 c@ckhead.... I thought you’d be different on this thread because it is of specific interest to you and you have some valuable information to share. I think many people (myself including) are considering the possibility of switching to EV’s... that is why this thread is being followed and why I have asked questions and voiced thoughts... Y’know... its what a discussion forum is about. Good... It was a good discussion until you start becoming over defensive and turn in the same tool you prove yourself to be in all the other threads. -
The worse areas that I have found for Sandflies is Koh Samet and Koh Chang. We go to Hua Hin often and have not found the sandflies to be an issue. That said - between mozzies and sandflies there is plenty to bite us and make the evenings uncomfortable. We are vigilant with our son and ourselves (Wife and I), but in over 25 years I have not found any pattern, sometimes the go for me more, sometimes my Wife, some I’ve been eating spicy food, sometimes I haven’t... I’m not even sure its seasonal..... But, they’re there and the only thing that works is to keep applying the repellant with deet.

International vaccine certificate (electronic)
richard_smith237 replied to CrossBones's topic in COVID-19 Coronavirus
Always bring a print out of your vaccine certificate and have a Digital Copy stored somewhere (i..e in the cloud where you can log into from another device). You don't know when your phone will run out of battery etc. Additionally, due to information security some QR codes (for medical information) cannot be read by overseas or 3rd party authorities. The QR codes on my Vaccines certificates can be read anywhere (it seems). But the QR codes on UK NHS Vaccine certificates cannot (if I’m not mistaken). Additionally, Apps such as Mor Promp can also be troublesome. The Mor Promp app is often updated, but for whatever reasons, it cannot from overseas. Once it requires an update we cannot open the App until its been updated, but we can’t updated from outside of Thailand (for some reason) and also cannot re-log in from overseas. Thus: Effectively the Mor Promp app cannot be relied upon to show your QR Code and vaccine certificate outside of Thailand. -

That could bring you in big trouble as it is basically document forgery. Please don’t tell the teacher.... It’s altering the policy or making a statement that isn’t true. It’s adding a detail that they needed to see (at the time)... hardly forging a whole document. Geez... some people are scared of their own shadows.... It's just a box ticking exercise, see it for what it is. Or, if you are to scared to ‘add a minor detail’ to make life easier then be prepared to face issues when a pathetic jobs-worth identifies you are missing a key word, or your passport number is not on your Vax cert etc... -
The REAL EV vehicle discussion thread.....
richard_smith237 replied to transam's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I think it's somewhat sad and paradoxical how conspiracy theorists and purveyors of misinformation regularly push this "sheepeole" ideology when in fact they are the one's who are being submissive, obedient and mislead. People want to see what they want to see and add their own spin accordingly. Are EV’s as convenient as ICE’s ???... I don’t think so (not yet anyway). Are EV’s cheaper to run than ICE’s ???.... I think so (but the battery replacement discussion is interesting). Are EV’s more expense to buy than the equivalent ICE’s ???.... Yes (at the moment). Are EV’s more environmentally friendly than ICE’s ???.... Big picture, I don’t think so. Are EV’s cleaner in than ICE’s ???.... I think so, definitely and thats an advantage for the cities. Would I get an EV. IF they were the same cost for the same standard of car, definitely. Do I see EV’s being more expensive to run and charge in future ?... Yes, the governments need to recoup the tax loss from fuel (ICE’s) somehow. -

You've bypassed the questions with a myopic response that they are not relevant to you.. This discussion is about EV’s... the question was presented as a ‘what to do’... ‘how does it work’ type scenario and are thus valid to the subject matter of how convenient is an EV, especially in Thailand. Completely irrelevant to the topic, others may do. So if we are discussing EV’s and how convenient they may or may not be in Thailand whether or not you like to visit Samet, Koh Chang or Phuket is somewhat irrelevant. I think it would be. I don’t know where to leave an EV on the mainland to charge while visiting an island. This could be an issue with EV’s (whether you want to go to Samet or not is somewhat beside the point). i.e. Would driving 200km BKK to Samet Pier, leaving the car for 5 nights (at the pier car park / no plug in) and then driving return 200km to BKK all be feasible on one charge ? Would we have to stop off on the way back for an hour to charge up the battery ? The examples are real-world scenarios... I wasn’t trying to think up something to catch you out, I was looking to see how practical an EV would be, or what the pitfalls might be and how to get around them on trips I make a few times per year. An example you can add.... but, I’m not trying to ‘create a challenge’... just work out real world use. Certainly not stressful, I enjoy researching trips.. But, do hotels advertise that they have charging stations ?.... do they advertise that you can plug in your EV to their mains ? do they advertise charing rates ? Do you need to bring a long extension cable to plug in your EV over night? All the practical things... I have no idea as I have never had an EV. -
‘Just naming the hospitals’ does not respond specifically to the Ops request to name a doctor, but it does point him in the direction of reputable hospitals all of which will have highlight trained medical experts. Thus: In lieu of a specific recommendation (which you provided) the hospital recommendations would be useful to anyone who is a tourist and who does not know Bangkok or its hospitals.

International vaccine certificate (electronic)

Any one checking only wants to see a piece of paper.... They have ‘boxes to check’.... they don’t care about anything except that what they have in front of them matches what they are checkin for. Even back in April 2021 when the requirements had changed and they removed the need for Day-5 Test&Go. I presented my Day1 Test&Go booking... but the airline staff were not up to date with the rule change (3 days before hand), they wanted to see the Day5 Test&Go booking.... I told them the rules had changed and that was no longer a requirement. Check-in staff got on their phone, called down a supervisor who requested to see the Day5 Test&Go booking.... I had originally made a Day5 Test&Go booking but had cancelled it when the entry requirements were changed. I still had the printed out booking with me. I gave up, showed him the piece of paper that had my Day5 Test&Go booking... they we’re happy. Accepted that and checked me in. They only cared to see a piece of paper which showed what they wanted to see.... check-box checked, no issues !!... I’ve travelled in and out of Thailand numerous times from numerous difference countries.... the one thing which is common during CoE, SandBox and Thailand Pass is that the Airline staff don’t care what they are looking at, just so long as they see a piece of paper which shows that every requirement is met - thats it, just give them exactly what they want to see. -

I strongly advise against editing the PDF document to change the passport number as this would lead to a discrepancy between the number shown in the PDF document and the information in the database being accessed when reading the QR code. Some authorities may not take kindly to a falsification of a document. Don't over think it... Its not ‘falsifying' any information, changing or removing anything... it's simply adding factual but missing detail - Your passport number. No one cares.... but without ALL the required information you could find yourself at the mercy of on over-zealous airline check-in staff member looking for a missing piece of information on a certificate. My Sons vaccine certificate issued in Thailand (Mor Prom) includes all his information, his Thai ID number and his Passport Number. On the other hand my Wife’s vaccine certificate issued in Thailand (Mor Prom) includes her Thai ID, but not her Passport Number - So, I edited in her passport number. It just avoids any potential hassle if someone is going to be a pain in the backside an an overseas airport. --------- I’ve already had the issue with an Insurance certificate at an airline check-in. My insurance is 3 million dollars, in patient and outpatient, dental and optical, no exclusions covers all illnesses. But the certificate of cover did not specifically state ‘including covid cover’.... it just said no exclusions.... Air-line check-in staff nearly rejected my travel until we spoke with someone higher up and I highlighted that I’d entered Thailand already 3x that year with the same insurance letter (and same airline) - it took 30mins of messing around, but the staff really didn’t want to let me on the flight until over-ruled. For any travel after that I edited the PDF and added... ’No exclusions, including no exclusions for covid or covid related illnesses’.... It just removes the potential for a jobs-worth who decides they want to be difficult to add unnecessary hassle to my day. -
My line is already less.... Perhaps because I live in central Bangkok and riding is no fun. If I was out side of a city I may chose to ride for the fun of it, here its for necessity only. I either choose to take the car or bike - If Wife is taking the car the decision is made for me. If its raining or just too hot I take the car... If at night, its a grab (as I’ll likely have a beer), if its at peak traffic times I’ll either plan and avoid or take the bike. The bike is a pure convenience... but in Bangkok the speeds don’t get up to much because of the traffic. I’ve just downgraded to scooter which is a little better for storage than a motorbike... but I can already feel that the brakes are not as good and its not as stable when I do get up to speed (14” wheels I think).

5 years ago or more the question itself was more valid. These days its somewhat of a no-brainer. The Xiaomi 70mai a800s dash cam came on the market..... - Forward and rear facing (4500 baht) - Easy purchase from Lazada - Incredibly easy to self install (plugs straight into a 12v port), wires can easily be self run under the - upholstery (or can self wire with a fuse tap). - Small enough not to be obtrusive under the rear-view mirror. - Front Cam: 4k (140 degree) - Rear Cam: 1920x1080 (130 degree) - Clear night vision / recording The cam handles the heat (no no issues). Sticks to the windscreen (with 3M tape) and stays there. I know people have different views... but if in the market for a reliable and quality dash-cam there really is no need to get anything else other than than The Xiaomi 70mai a800s unless price is a major concern in which case compromises will have to be made on quality and reliability etc.

KhunLA.... how would you go about the trip if you went to somewhere such as Koh Samet or Koh Chang (from Bangkok). I imagine Koh Chang may be easier - Is 330km range doable in your EV ?? One would also have to check with the destination hotel that they have a ‘plug in’ for the EV. I imagine many now do, but that may take a little extra research which booking - this will of course become the norm. But Koh Samet - a 200km drive to the pier. The car is left in a rather rudimentary car-park without any charge stations etc.. Thus... what are the options there ? I already saw that many hotels in Hua Hin had charge stations... of course, they either had EV’s in them already, or idiots had parked in the space (as they do in disabled spaces here) - which lends to another potential hassle I suppose... ensuring we get an EV charge spot (if they are limited).
