As I am British, my Son’s English is ‘native’, having always attended international school he started to develop an ‘international school style US accent’ which I had to slap out of him. Unfortunately, he needs a lot more work on his Thai as his schooling is 100% in English & he has extra curricular Thai lessons. My Wife tells me he speaks Thai like a foreigner !!! He’s 8, so will hopefully develop more. My Wife’s English is fluent… she has to remember to speak Thai all time with our son for his benefit. I have also found it interesting to witness the children of my Wife’s friends communicate - they are all 100% Thai and attend international schools, Thai is their primary ‘home language’ yet when the kids are together they all communicate in English. They tell me it’s just easier / quicker…, I wonder if English, even with all its silly idiosyncrasies is a more efficient language to use.

By the end of the year my son’s uniform is filthy !!!.... Why the school uses white shirts is beyond me... but it has marker pen, paint stains etc... The vast majority of kids are the same. Its a top tier international school - they are just not bothered about the pathetic small stuff. A school uniform keeps things simple so kids are not fighting with ‘one-up-manship’ over the latest brand etc.... they’re not meant to be worn with military perfection and discipline... the ideology over school uniforms in Thai government schools seems wrong if children are being punished like this for an innocent and harmless mistake.

You think stapling a sign to a child's clothing is ‘not that bad’ ???... Its a far cry from doing the reasonable thing and speaking directly with the parents. Teachers are supposed to be guiding and moulding the children, not embarrassing and frightening them. If this teacher things this behaviour is acceptable, then what else, cutting the Childs hair (as we’ve seen plenty of times before), beating them etc ??? This teacher is a ‘wrong un’ with no sense of what is an isn’t acceptable - its best he is kept away from children. How hard was it to wait until the end of the day and speak with the parents ???? the teacher is a lazy bully.
-
If its so important to the teacher, he can wait after school and speak with the parent when they pick him up. This highlights how the priorities in (some) Thai’s schools are upside down and inside out. In my Son’s school (Int’l school), if they turn up in the wrong uniform or kit etc its no big deal at all. The uniform is not overly strict etc.. and the children’s education is clearly the #1 priority.

in this example... the ‘Stop line’ for the motorcyclist (in orange going straight on) will be about 5m behind him..

Would that work ???... ... Every drunk driver thinks its the others that are the problem... they will just think ‘I’ll drive slower and more carefully, I’m a good drivers !!!’... ... Then you have the Westerners who drink drive under the premise that ‘even when drunk they are still safer than the Thai’s’ !!!!...
-
You've over egging that one.... They’ve just had fun with friends then get in a car... thats all there is to it. No underlying need to get wasted, drink to forget etc... just fun... But.. that fun comes with a degree of ignorance towards the risks of drunk driving... most people in Thailand will think nothing of drink-driving... they just think they will be ok driving home. Before we met my Wife would drink drive every time she went out (and yes, she had accidents), but she said it was safer for a female than taking a taxi.
-
No... thats not true.... ‘Thai’s have not had enough of drunk drivers’.... Say it how it really is.... ‘Thai’s have had enough of ‘OTHERS’ drink driving’..... It is still the cultural norm for Thai’s to go out, party, funeral, wedding, bar, dinner etc... drink and drive home... It is still the cultural norm for this behaviour not to be frowned upon. When there is a cultural shift towards one of social responsibility we will see a great many improvements from better road manners and consideration to the obvious... reduction in drink driving. Until then, no, Thai’s have not had enough... they just respond with knee-jerk actions when someone they know is killed or hurt... The disregard for consequences is one of the facets that makes Thailand a relaxing and happy go lucky place to live. However, this is a double edged sword as its also tragic to witness the society we live amongst and care about behave with such disregard for consequences when the consequences are so frequently tragic.

Don't think so Thanks for correcting my misunderstanding... I don’t know why, but I understood that being registered and having a 13 digit Thailand issued ID number (which is also our tax number) gave us access to the 30 baht Thai Healthcare scheme - It seems I have indeed misunderstood this situation. (I’ve never needed it because I’ve always had Medical Insurance - but I thought I could rely in the Thai issued ID number as a fallback - clearly I’m mistaken)
-
If I understand correctly… Significantly cheaper as it grants you access to the Thai healthcare system.
-
Are you implying that being registered at a property (Yellow House book) doesn’t give you cheaper access to Thai Heath care ?? (Or just arguing the semantics of ‘free’) (Pink ID being an extension of the Yellow house registration book in this case & not 100% free, but significantly cheaper than paying the going rate as a foreigner for medical / health care services).

This is just stubborn stupidness buy authorities (governments)... If no passport checks were necessary before, none are now - the only change is that humans have ‘put in a rule’..... ... ‘operate under a bilateral free-travel agreement - no EU passport checks in the UK, if no UK passport checks in the EU’... this could be simple if it weren’t for stubborn tools in positions of decision making power (on both sides).

No... because the vaccine is effective. Now lets stop worrying about every single viral outbreak and over-reacting when these things never concerned us or even reached the media before covid.... Because, when a serious outbreak of 'something else' does occur 'the boy who has cried wolf’ (i.e the media) will have done so too many times....

I use Lazada quite often and rarely have issues.... but have learned to be careful with reviews, seller feedback etc. I ordered an SMP Saddle (from a Shop in Chiang Mai), I received rubbish iPhone 6 cases. I complained to Lazada, they said to file a return. I filed a return. Seller did not accept return. Lazada said I have to wait. I waited xx days. Lazada then took-on my complaint and sent me a return label. I returned the item and received a refund to my credit card. Its obvious the Shop tried to scam me - I wonder if Lazada penalised the shop after xx number of complaints or simply allows it to continue. Continued scams obviously ruin the legitimacy of using a platform such as Lazada... but I’ve had the same issue with Amazon in the UK.... It’s all just a facet and risk of online shopping - we take the risk, but ultimately if Lazada or Amazon are taking responsibility and protecting the customer its ok.

Agreed... from his explanation its pretty obvious what the Op wants to do and we don’t need to get hung-up over the words used; adopted vs sponsoring and distract the thread from the fact that the Op wants to do a good thing. Now... my ‘guess’ is, that if the Op wants to support an individual child who is living within an Orphanage he may find that difficult (just a guess) as all children there are living under the same roof, have the same needs etc... My Guess is that the Op has decided he wants to make a ‘real difference’ in an individuals life rather than make an imperceptible difference in a lot of children's lives.... I understand that, but also it seems a little wrong unless actually going the full on ‘live in adoption route’... Thus: The best the Op could do is to sponsor the Orphanage itself (again, just a guess).
