  1. Jumping in on this.... Any recommendations regarding Firestick, Roku, Xiaomi Mi Stick and reliable IPTV subscriptions.... Requirements: - Something that can plug into a TV home, or a hotel and at work: Which is best: Firestick, Roku, Xiaomi Mi Stick to travel around with? something that is not IP blocked. - An IPTV service which I can load the ‘interface’ (whatever its called) so that I can watch football from on the TV using the ‘portable stick’ - wherever I am. - An IPTV service which is not fixed to a MAC address (so I can log in on different devices - not at the same time). - The same IPTV which also has an App for the iPAD and MacBook laptop (or via the a webpage). - Something with simple payment (i.e. Thai Bank Transfer or PayPal in the UK - not crypto / coinbase etc). Something which is personally recommended to work at ‘peak watching hours’ i.e. key Premier league games and of course, world cup football. Any assistance and feedback welcomed...
  2. Agreed.... How is that possibly good driving ?????..... the pickup truck had a life time to react and brake only to spin out.... utterly ridiculous that this could be consider ‘good driving’ in the looses sense of the word.... .... and the motorcyclist.... this is exactly why we all need dash-cams... How can someone pull out in the outside lane of a main road like that and so clearly and obviously put their own life in such grave danger absolutely astonishes me.
  3. With a Yellow Tabien Baan you ‘should’ have no issues opening an account....
  4. Without a work permit doesn't mean with a tourist visa. People open accounts with Non-imm visas without a work permit. It varies... from bank to bank from province to province, from branch manager to branch manager... there is no set in stone consistency. A Work Permit or Yellow Tabine Baan house book will pretty much guarantee you can open a Bank account at any Branch. Without the above, there may be some trial and error, and a little leg work required to find a bank ./ branch which will work with you... odds are improved with a Non-Imm Visa and Certificate of Address (affirmation of residence) document... If attempting to open a Bank Account with only a Tourist visa your chances are very slim.. no impossible, I’m sure its been done by someone... nevertheless, chances are very slim.
  5. What is a composory govt CTPL ? Its also called Por-Ror-Bor... Its the compulsory insurance that every vehicle on Thailands roads has to have (theoretically), cars and motorcycles in Thailand cannot be taxed without proof of compulsory insurance (people usually get this insurance and tax their vehicle at the same time).
  6. Love this type of response... Its like the replies to the threads where guys have complained about the Taxi drivers... ...someene pipes up, I’ve never had an issue with Taxi’s in Thailand, although I never use them !!...
  7. Not true at all, I regulalrly go 80kph and very stable, 100 was ok too I think stability is what we ‘feel’ and if we’re used to riding a ‘real motorcycle’ scooters defiantly feel less stable when going faster... That said, scooters are hardly ‘unstable’ at 100kmh, but they do feel different to conventional motorcycle - I think the quality of suspension, the size of wheels and the fork rake obviously all have a lot to do with this. As far as the Ops question: At the end of the day its just a scooter... none of them ‘snap knicker elastic’ or are great ‘riders bikes’ they are scooters... So, go for one you like that fits you etc... IMO - ABS is a must, decent storage also a must... I like keyless too, but thats not a major point. Of the Bunch I like the Honda ADV 150cc (and would much prefer the ADV 350 but the Op has already pointed out he doesn’t want anything that size).
  8. Not necessarily... there is much discussion on this: IF you have a licence in English from a country which is signatory to the 1968 Vienna convention on road traffic they can drive on their national licence, if its not in English they need the IDP to accompany their passport. There are other complications which have been listed and discussed in the past but there is little documentation on this: IF someone is on a non-immigration Visa they are considered resident and must have a local licence - this is often debated and there is no clear information on this. Ultimately, if in doubt - get a Thai Licence, its extremely easy to get and handy to have as a proof of ID too. Insurance here is far more forgiving than insurance in many of our home nations. In most cases the car is insured for any licensed driver. In this case, if you have a licence from your home country (signatory to 1968 Vienna convention) then you are covered.
  9. OR... he hasn’t been named because he’s still legally considered a minor. That said, in closing to drive a car as an adult he should be ‘charged, judged and tried as an adult’... The 15 year old thought he was old enough to drive, he should face the consequences of his actions. The father who let him drive is also complicit and should face charges - although I’m not sure what legal scope there is to charge the father i.e. what is the parental responsibility here?.
  10. For owners of individual unit / homes - I think they can ask whatever they want, basically, whatever the market will tolerate. IF an owner has more than 5 units, they are considered a business and by law can only charge 1 month deposit and government rate for electricity - that matters little though, they still charge what they want. In most cases owners will try and charge 2 months deposit, and of course the rent is paid at the beginning of the month. Some people managed to get away with only paying 1 months rent. As a previous owner charing 30,000 baht rent, I’m glad a received two months deposit. The renters caused damage greater than 1 months rent. I think two months rent is fair, but the issue of course is that some owners are dishonest cheats and will refuse to return a deposit even if there is no damage at all. That said, I’ve always had my rent returned when renting previous properties.
  11. That adds another complication - how does a foreign child leave Thailand without an entry stamp in their foreign passport ??
  12. I remember looking to rent a place near my sons school a while ago... Their electricity was 6.5 b/kwh.... I pointed out that as by law they have to charge the government rate. So what... was the answer given... needless to say we (wife and I) walked out. Regardless of the law - some places still seem to be charging whatever they can get away with. The law doesn’t matter in Thailand, it never really has.
  13. Why not breathalyse them both ?.... If witnesses saw both drivers racing they are surely both under suspicion on driving while drunk. IF the report is true it seems both parties behaved in an extremely juvenile manner - fortunately no innocents were hurt. I’m sure there is CCTV of their actions somewhere along the stretch where they are alleged to have been racing.
  14. I see what you are saying... Perhaps the 15 year old stole his parents (or someone else’s) car. This begs the question: to what extent and up to what age are parents legally responsible for the actions of their children ? That said: IF the parents had knowingly allowed their 15 year old to drive a car, they are clearly complicity. My Wife used to drive to school when she was 15 years old (her mother would sit with her)... I wonder how many also do this. Ultimately, no one cares until there is an issue. Then there is a week of outrage, a few announcements about crack downs.. then everything back to normal... no one cares... There is no better evidence of this that the ‘pedestrian crossing issue’...
  15. I think mileage varies... certainly there are plenty of reports of both people being checked and others not at all. Anyway, the Op has bigger issues if he hasn’t got a passport sorted yet and doesn’t know where the mother is.
  16. I wonder if that's because some customers keep them waiting forever in the lobby? I've seen that happen a few times in my condo here in Bangkok. I guess keeping an eye on the app to check the order status is beneath some peoples' dignity. I always figured they’d prefer people paying in cash as there’s a higher chance of them leaving a decent tip. Certainly with GrabTaxi’s the charge goes straight to the credit-card... but when paying with cash many people just round up to the nearest note (i.e. 70 baht, rounded up to 100 baht etc).
  17. You live in dream land. Show where dogs are bred to 'rip off faces'? You haven’t denied that these breeds are bred to attack the neck then !!!... I think there’s enough evidence (some of which was deleted) that these dogs go for the back of the neck and in doing so also get the face... Of course, they’re not bred to specifically go for the faces of young children... thats just a tragic consequence ‘when’ the powerful animals are triggered by something.
  18. c’mon.. haven’t you been reading the thread... The Grab guys keep cancelling... ... But, as you like to do things for yourself, you could perhaps go out and treat yourself to a sense of humour upgrade so you don’t have to resort to the lowest form of wit !!... ???? ????????
  19. Not just Pit Bulls. All dogs. I'm a lot less cautious with my family around the ones which haven’t been bred to rip off our faces and paralyse other mammals by cracking their neck.... Just sayin’...
  20. Of course... thats sage advice for any dog we don’t know. A couple of my friends have Pitbulls and they are lovely dogs. I also know people with ‘other dogs’ and they don’t do a very good job of looking after them, exercising them or training them.... they should never have a dog at all.. it is in the hands of people like this that breeds known for being potentially dangerous can easily meet that potential. The stats are simply damning.
  21. When the BTS first opened I recall people would read books... most commonly ‘comic type’ books... Rather than the magazine type comics we are used to in the West, they are actual books... with story-board type layout. These are also very popular in Japan. I recall going to Au Bon Pain and reading the paper... Bangkok Post... The Nation and also BK Magazine and The BigChilli magazine (stocked in some areas).
  22. Possibly... given that Pitbulls are responsible for 72% of fatal dog attacks, would that then suggest that PitBull's attract <deleted> owners ?..... .... I don’t think so, but using your logic... Perhaps just the Pitbulls called Nazi, Tyson, Ripper etc are owned by the <deleted> owners and these are the ones we are hearing about. ... Perhaps those evil little b*start chihuahua’s are owned by <deleted> owners too, but we don’t see those in the fatal dog attack stats because people don’t really die from a bite on the ankle.
  23. Both parents needed to get a passport. So he will fail well before immigration. A very valid point. Unless the Op has sole custody, I suspect he needs to start searching for the Childs mother and sort some things out.
  24. Does he have soul custody rights and documentation to prove that? Immigration can and do check that the child has both parents permission. Theoretically, there is a ‘Parental consent form’ which is to be signed at the Amphur office to allow the ‘single parent’ to travel outside of the country with their child. In the past, when I have travelled alone with my Son I haven’t gone as far as getting my Wife’s signature witnessed by an Amphur officer, nevertheless, I have prepared a form signed by my Wife, just incase. My Wife has also been nearby (after dropping us off at the airport) and ready to answer any questions by phone or ready to return to the Airport if needed. I’ve done this twice, both times no questions were asked (Son, with my Surname, at 3 yrs old and again at 4 yrs old - departing immigration on his Thai Passport). That said: I also have friends who were stopped by Immigration, the ‘mother’ was called and answered a few questions after which Immigration were satisfied. Thus: OP... IF you can’t get hold of the mother there could be issues, but you could also take your chances (perhaps have a female friend standing by pretending to be mum, just in case).
