  1. I still see those.... I can't imagine anything more idiotic than putting fake bullet holes on our car to try and show you are a 'hard man'.... ... Well, I couldn't until I read anonymous posters on here stating that they are 'tough guys' and 'would have knocked him out on one punch and other such fantastically dumb comments.... But... then there is this... (which I don't think is solely a Thai thing, nevertheless, it utterly stupid).
  2. 'who, rationally, would not?' you ask - Only one poster I'm aware of on this forum - You !!... though I suspect as usual your comment is more pedanticism than rationality... There is nothing absurd whatsoever about an AN poster speculating that a 2 tonne vehicle was travelling at a high enough rate of speed to be considered 'absurd' if it managed to 'launch itself onto two pick-up trucks'.... I'd argue that such a comment is in-fact based on a high degree of rationality.
  3. Oh ! You know everything sir , regards worgeordie Seems that struck a nerve, though I'm not sure why.... If I didn't use the word 'boomer' would you have objected with your sarcasm ?
  4. So, after marrying a penniless farm girl from an alien culture, your grand philosophical insight is that all Thai women suddenly sprout delusions of grandeur the moment they touch a banknote? And that’s your diagnosis for this car accident ???? .... thats quite a masterclass in baseless generalisation.
  5. Its where they passed their driving test ?
  6. But men are OK? I think everyone missed the 'double layer' of his joke...
  7. I could not agree more, Hua Hin was "yawn" central. Very disjointed as well. I prefer a real city. Indeed.... If one is looking to get acosted by Ladyboys, into a confrontation with a bouncer, or a fight with a tatted up Westerner then the chances of that happening in Hua Hin are significantly less than other 'real cities' such as Pattaya and Patong... Hua Hin is kind of like a tiny-Bangkok with more older expats.... a for more normal conventional vibe with less going on, it has its 'areas' but they too are a lot smaller with a lot less going on...
  8. I like it there... Its a nice beach break from BKK within a close drive.... Hotels a decent, plenty of decent restaurants... Nowhere to part !! - that part is true... especially staying at one of the resorts on the strip between HH and Cha-am... then getting into town in the evenings is a headache... Basically park somewhere further away and flag a TukTuk... Beach is decent enough outside of 'jelly fish' seasons... Seafood restaurants are decent. Character of locals is excellent when compared to places like Phuket and Patong (and much of Phuket)... Expats there seem decent... it doesn't attract the same 'chavy crowd' as other major towns (mentioned above)... But its not exactly a 'party night out either'... Its a trip with good friends, and / or family, beers, food and not late nights.... It kind of does what it says on the tin without any real surprises. ---------- As per Bob's post - HH did it the news a couple of times fairly recently for the wrong reasons... A Westnener (German) randomly attacked another foreigner... and another time a father and son were randomly attacked by a group of Thai's in a night market... Both very rare examples - its a fairly chilled place and I think nothing of being in the night market there with my Wife and Son at 9-10pm etc... when on holiday there.
  9. It depends where you are.... and also how such matters are managed. In nice area's the phones are a 'resources'... Kids go out and play with their friends... sometimes on their phones, mostly messing about doing other stiff, bikes, tree-forts etc... then get a call from their folks when its time to come home... ... Our homing beacon use to be our stomachs or the street lights going on.... but at least today, parents know where their kids are and thats safter. We are astutely more aware of the risks children face these days than our folks were a generation ago. Also, in the cities its different, less chance for 'face to face interaction' in open wide safe spaces. My son is online now on his iPad - 5 mates at the same time, all chatting away... all having fun... They all do an extra 2 hours ECA after school... then get home and continue to catch up... they don't have to chance to meet up together after school because they life in a massive city. For some, especially Boomers on forums such as this and then also the woke Zoomers - its seems iPads are the devils tool - Yet they are an outstanding resource, the educational capacity is excellent... So its not the tool itself - its how we continue to supervise our children so they can manage the resources at their fingertips.
  10. ... Don't want to get involved with a child potentially running into the road and getting hit by a car ??? ... another measure of your character ??? -------- "Excuse my French" - A British colloquialism to apologise for bad language. -------- The Pool lady - I remember you posting that story before... she was bonkers. Some Western women, particularly Aussie women seem to 'have this impression' that any male is a predator... Luckily they are not common.... -------- Thinks are a lot less neurotic here - but caution still needs to be taken - its important for the 'community' as in everyone around to be considerate and look after kids...
  11. Speed sufficient enough to launch a two tonne car over two pickup trucks... ... absurd enough for you... or you want officially calibrated speed reading ?
  12. Yep... I think thats a common response... "it happens elsewhere"... and its true, it does happen elsewhere.... but perhaps not to the same extent given Thailand's population, especially when compared to countries with stronger safety regulations and higher levels of accountability. We just had our major national Airport shut down in the UK and a lack of redundancy, so issues do happen else where... But, its the reptation of incidents that keep reoccurring here thats shocking... ... when something serious happens, there is no real investigation... if its serious enough or hits enough social media we just see a 'crack-down'... and then back to normal after a few weeks. I've always advised everyone who visits - never take the bus... A friend just did visit... took 10 hours or so from Chiang Mai to Bang Sue - but still had to pay for a taxi so didin't really save much on a one way flights - its just not worth it at all.
  13. Ya think? My first thoughts too... in fact my only thought... Utter idiots drink driving and speeding... Luckily no-one was killed.... Was the driver breathalysed ?.... If over will their insurance cover all the 3rd part costs ??? I agree with the 'Charge them' - usually for reckless driving' which actually doesn't come with much of a penalty.... and the deport them part... but thats an extra penalty than the Thai's would receive... So... when so many Thai's end up in similar situations for similar reasons - should foreigners receive the same penalties or worse ? I'm sure the forums cockroach drink driver will be along to state it wasn't drink driving thats a problem but speed... and that drink driving wasn't reported so it can't be that... ... Though given the time - I'm quite sure drink driving 'was a major factor'...
  14. ...in fact I was blaming the 'herro, welcome'.... 😄 bob. Its a metaphor bob... you place blame everywhere else... ..... here are more for you.. "You're the only one sinking in the puddle and cursing the rain." "You're the one spilling your drink and blaming the glass." "Everyone’s playing the same game, you’re the one fumbling the ball and blaming the field." "You're the guy steering into a wall and blaming the road."
  15. As they say, Bob.... it's up to you..... And in nearly every case you whine about, it really is. No one else is responsible for your inability to handle life’s minor inconveniences without spiralling into another tedious pity parade. If you’re letting trivial things things outside your control get under your skin, that’s not some deep, philosophical struggle. That’s just poor emotional hygiene. It doesn’t take a 'qualification' to grasp something so embarrassingly basic... just a shred of common sense, which, by the looks of it, you seem to deliberately side step... Plenty of people have said it already, but since you clearly missed the memo: look inward. Your so-called “demons” aren’t some cosmic injustice, they’re the echo chamber of your own excuses. You're not oppressed, you're just outpaced. Everyone else is carrying the same weight, you’re the only one tripping over it and blaming the ground.
  16. But that hardly makes any difference these days... We have a thread about a Shopping Mall and some halfwit will always shoehorn in a trolling Trump / Biden / Musk comment causing an avalanche of stupidity and destruction of the thread....
  17. Relax boomer.... I don't block you... you're just a harmless cockroach with whom I mostly disagree... Its good that your comments remain visible, I and other people should be aware of the extent of delusion some people suffer with - you're a good example for this. Others... they're just complete wasters not worth bothering with at all... not even worth registering on the radar...
  18. I mean there was no downhill on that long flat stretch. The uphill start just before the bend. He was likely building up speed along the flat. Before the turn through which the driver entered at speed and 'over steered and flipped the bus'.... There is a downhill stretch... The picture below is looking back up that hill, down which the bus sped (towards the camera position) before entering the corner.
  19. Yup... its just the dumb stuff like this that I can't be bothered with and may lead to 'ignore'.... 7 ppl on my Ignore list - a couple because they are total ayholes with no redeeming features whatsoever, the others because they only ever post irrelevant dumb one liner replies that are simply moronic and stupid...
  20. Thanks for the shoutout 'mate'... bob. Just a random listing of posters who 'others may choose to place on ignore'.. You're not on my ignore list... your posts are not that bad.... Others perhaps 'should be' on my ignore list but in some disturbing way its interesting to see exactly how vapid and toxic they truly are. Then there are others who simply offer nothing but utter rubbish, no opinions just vile comments of no value - or idiotically wasteful bumf... they go on block simply 'cos I can't be bothered scrolling over their posts all the time.
  21. Yes... when Bob, Gamma, Georgia, Harrisfan, Poutache, MalcomB etc make one of their usual posts and you've had enough... .... just hover your mouse over their name and you'll see this 'pop up' - then select ignore... You won't see any more posts from such posters, except when other posters have quoted them, then you'll see why you ignored them in the first place !!!
  22. Some fair points… Thailand hasn’t been a “cheap” destination for quite some time, yet the myth stubbornly persists. Combine that with the easy access to cannabis, and it’s no surprise the country draws more than its fair share of drifters and wasters..... many of whom quickly find themselves spiralling into difficult financial situations. That, in turn, creates pressure points, and eventually… something gives. The simplest solution, of course, is to deport them. But that alone isn’t enough. When someone assaults others with a syringe and the only consequence is a free flight home, that’s not justice, it’s a getaway. If the message being received is, “act out and you’ll just be sent packing,” then any real deterrent vanishes. And without consequences, the cycle repeats. I'm not part of the 'hang-em high crowd' and believe any foreigners acting out should face exactly the same consequences as Thai's after found committing the same crimes.
  23. Obvious... don't let the the simple stuff you can't control from getting under your skin.
  24. Only if you are the type of person who allows such factors to grind them down in the first place... I've been into a 7-Eleven numerous times this week and I can honestly state I didn't even notice the 'ding-dong'... thingy... it just doesn't register..... the differences is not only do you 'register the noise' but you allow it to get under your skin....
  25. You could, I suppose... but the very fact that the"ding-dong" of a 7-Eleven door ranks among your emotional triggers speaks volumes about the depth of your psychological afflictions and the profoundly skewed lens through which you view the world. You’ve managed, with astonishing consistency, to twist even life’s simplest pleasures into points of grievance, Bob. You've turned 'turning a positive into a negative' an art form. It patently clear that your mental wellbeing is not so much impacted by your environment, but by yourself alone.... If only you could flip a switch and open up the balance of your perspective you could find greater enjoyment in life, Bob.
