If someone is that fat, they already know they can't fit in a seat.... They'll either book business or just not flight - I've seen large people flying, I've sat next to people who are large and were 'touching' shoulders etc... but thats part of flying.... IF someone is such a grumpy miserable ayhole of a passenger they can't stand fat people, maybe its them who should look at taking measures not to be exposed... i.e. get themselves a business class ticket and they're away from everyone.
-
Its about 'letting them know you are going to recline' and showing some curtesy instead of slamming the seat back, which is quite rude IMO... and can also damage things or knock a drink off etc... Its just basic manners... and its basic manners of the person behind to be tolerant of that. If the person in front of me reclines their seat, I'll just recline mine.... If the person behind objects then we'd have a problem, but I've never faced such an issue yet and I fly a lot. Discussions such as this usually stem from USA news where it appears that some travellers are so 'stuck into their own rights' that the don't live in a reality where normal reason exists.
-
What would be your action if the person behind said "no, I'm not ok with that"? Would you go ahead and recline anyway? I don't ask... but I check behind that nothing is on the tray table, get their attention and indicate that I'm going to recline.... ... No one has ever objected. When someone does the same and treats me with the same curtesy when reclining their seat in front of me, I say thanks.... Most people are good travellers - it seems a few incredibly miserable misers here could turn someone else's flight into an awkward encounter with their stinky attitudes.
-
An ideal solution - which airlines are allowing this in long haul economy ? I travel a lot and I've never seen this (not saying it doesn't exist though) No, they are not stealing anything... when a seat reclines, thats their right to do so. You thinking thats 'your space' does not make it so. It seems that the idea of flying brings out the worst attitudes in some.... Its just a flight, get over it, its not a big deal if you are not the sort of person to turn every issue in to a big deal.

Thats the way this thread is going... I'm surprised people haven't already suggested that fat people are shot before boarding and babies and children drugged to unconsciousness... .... Just so the boomers and sit there and drink as much alcohol as they can in peace and relative comfort...

My Dr told me I was getting obese.... because all she did was look at my hight and weight and calculated a BMI based on weight and height only (I'd been working out a lot).... she didn't factor muscle mass at all.. On the BMI index I am considered overweight.. again, thats not a true index of body fat or muscle. Thus: I'm not quite sure of the stats here... Though I understand many are over weight - I look around at many folk and see that they are 'fat'... its quite common... so perhaps the stats are right. In fact - whenever I'm out in a pub, I'm in the minority of physiques, or it feels like that - everyone else looks a bit 'lardy' so much so I'm surprised theirs such an anti-fattie sentiment on this thread.... Either that, or all the lazy big eaters and drinkers are keeping very quiet !!!

Rubbish.... Its peoples right to recline their seats... Just do so respectfully. - Don't recline the seat at meal times. - Don't slam the seat back, but look first and recline it gently. - Don't 'slam' the seat back up either, but do so carefully. Just basic respect... but the idea that someone in front cannot 'recline' their seat on a long flight is moronic...
-
You deal with it like any mature person would. Respectfully. If the other person were 'so obese' they were overflowing uncomfortably into my seat, I'd quietly speak with the flight attendants and ask if there was a seat I could be moved to with more space.

I thought you claimed a high IQ ???... After 36 weeks: Most airlines do not allow travel due to the increased risk of labour starting mid-flight.

Has he arrived yet ?

I'm going to take a wild guess at this one,.... British Guy travelled to Thailand for a holiday and got bitten my a Mosquito carrying Dengue Fever, developed a fever by the time he got home and was diagnosed with 'Dengue Fever'.... Hardly a stretch of the imagination... Dengue Fever has an incubation period of approx 4-10 days (its not Malaria).

You want to give ladyboys a 30 day visas! The tourist was not aggressive, but that wonderful Thai culture can't handle critism. Some would argue the Tourist triggered the confrontation for telling the ladyboy to get off his bike in a manner he/she didn't find respectful.... The idea that 30 days visa makes any difference to this just highlights the idiocy of some of the posters here.... perhaps an IQ test is more important for entry and any limits on duration !!!

Not exactly fair either. I don't ever fly cattle class, and I'm going to be complaining if obese people are paying less than me just because they are obese. Agreed... I certainly dont agree with providing the privilege of a first or business class seat at discount just because someone is obese... but.... as mentioned, on a flight that isn't full, there's no harm in giving them the next seat, for both their benefit and the poor soul who might otherwise be squashed in next to them... With full flights the conundrum becomes more complex and perhaps a second seat purchased (and no harm in offering a discount there, child seats are discounted after all).
-
This isn't about 'blaming Thailand'... I read the story as about highlighting the risks of mosquitos here, particularly the risk of contracting Dengue Fever - something many tourists may be unaware of.... I'm particularly cautious of my son catching it (when outdoors a lot at his school). Its not a 'Thai bash' just because someone contracts Dengue fever in Thailand, its just a Thailand related story thats all...

British Tourist Fights for Life After Tragic Accident in Phuket

A good solution... Though - was this at a pedestrian crossing ? Did the Brit step out without looking, or was the Russian speeding and riding illegally ? From the story (unless I've missed something) its impossble to know who is at fault, but I've seen both... a) pedestrians run out into the path of a Motorcycle - the incident most certainly the pedestrians fault. b) Motorcylists speeding across a pedestrian crossing and hitting a pedestrian - most certainly the motorcyclist fault. So... Who was actually at fault here ? Hope the Brit fully recovers, hope they sort out his insurance and that fully covers everything. But I would also hope that blame isn't being thrown at the Russian just because of his nationality. -
British Tourist Fights for Life After Tragic Accident in Phuket

I was crossing Sukhuvmit Rd in Bangkok to other night... Extremely cautious as usual... It was about 2:30am... light traffic... ... I heard it before I saw it... a screaming engine.... then a powerful motorcycle blew past at breakneck speed, easily over 120kmh, possibly faster... ... within a split second he was gone and already 100's of meters down the road, I was waiting for the sound of a chaos, a smash.. but it never happened - I'd be surprised if the fool is still alive. (no idea of nationality of course).... BUT.. my point here is... So many motorcyclist's just blow through these crossings as if they don't exist... Car drivers usually (in BKK) at least are so much better, but motorcyclists just see to ignore most of the traffic laws, whatever the nationality. -

And while they (the Thai government) kick out people with low IQ, bigots, ayholes... anyone they don't like the look of.... ... Lets start making sweeping generalisations on which to enact bigotry... -
On a lot of occasions there are free seats... Many flights I take, I get a spare seat next to me, especially on the good airlines where the check-in crew do a decent job of 'spreading' people about the air-craft.... ... on those flights, sure, give the 'obese' or 'very large' person the spare seat, it doesn't hurt anyone, its just good customer service. But, if a flight is fully booked and a large / obese person can't fit in a seat, then thats a more difficult situation that needs handling delicately... If they can't fit into a seat, ultimately, they can't fit and they can't travel.

Yup, let Darwin fix the issue. I don't think it is that simple.... The reason... Imagine some idiot on their phone down a small soi at 20kmh, drifting across the centre line and having ahead on with your Wife... Your wife is fine, seatbelt and air-bags, but the other driver was not wearing a seatbelt... 40kmh closing speed and their head smashes into the windscreen killing them.... ... Your Wife is 'automatically' charged with 'causing death through reckless driving' because a death was involved (this is a standard charge and is usually quickly dropped in such circumstances).... ... then the family of the deceased are coming after you and your family for compensation because their bread-winner died... ... the wife has to live with the fact that she was in an accident where another party died, and if shes a particularly compassionate individual, that will definitely impact her. Extreme scenario I know - but this is just another step down that ladder of not wearing motorcycle helmets - its not a completely victim free....

Thailand Cuts Visa-Free Stay to 30 Days to Combat Abuse
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If your statement is correct how does giving someone 30 days on entry as opposed to 60 days help? It doesn't... an idiot who's going to get drunk and violent is equally as likely to do so within his first 30 days here as he is within an extra 30 days... these guys are idiots and they'll likely be messing up in their first week !!! The other issue is the long-termers who make the news here, but they are on different visa's anyway, so this wont impact them at all. -

What difference is this going to make ??? Thailand is still going to get tourists who visit and make complete idiots of themselves... Most tourists are here for a few weeks.... -
Absolutely agree... they were sat on his motorcycle... ... What if they knocked it over.... They showed complete disrespect for anyone else's property. Is there anyone on this thread (or Forum) who would even consider sitting in a strangers motorcycle ? This is just like those wannabe influencer idiots on the TikTok videos sitting on someones supercar - no different, just a complete lack of respect for someone else's property.
-
I agree with this... However, according to other reports, they were sat on his bike... Which, IMO shows a total lack of respect for someone else's property... Thats not something I'd take kindly to, though I'd just say 'excuse me' as there really is no point in escalating any situation such as this... That said, these 'characters' are also known to have 'trigger finger' responses... the LB resorting immediately to violence... they need to be removed from the street.... ... but, I also hope the foreigner learned a lesson, there is no need to be insulting in the first place (IF in fact he was).
