Yes... when Bob, Gamma, Georgia, Harrisfan, Poutache, MalcomB etc make one of their usual posts and you've had enough... .... just hover your mouse over their name and you'll see this 'pop up' - then select ignore... You won't see any more posts from such posters, except when other posters have quoted them, then you'll see why you ignored them in the first place !!!

Some fair points… Thailand hasn’t been a “cheap” destination for quite some time, yet the myth stubbornly persists. Combine that with the easy access to cannabis, and it’s no surprise the country draws more than its fair share of drifters and wasters..... many of whom quickly find themselves spiralling into difficult financial situations. That, in turn, creates pressure points, and eventually… something gives. The simplest solution, of course, is to deport them. But that alone isn’t enough. When someone assaults others with a syringe and the only consequence is a free flight home, that’s not justice, it’s a getaway. If the message being received is, “act out and you’ll just be sent packing,” then any real deterrent vanishes. And without consequences, the cycle repeats. I'm not part of the 'hang-em high crowd' and believe any foreigners acting out should face exactly the same consequences as Thai's after found committing the same crimes.

Only if you are the type of person who allows such factors to grind them down in the first place... I've been into a 7-Eleven numerous times this week and I can honestly state I didn't even notice the 'ding-dong'... thingy... it just doesn't register..... the differences is not only do you 'register the noise' but you allow it to get under your skin....
-
You could, I suppose... but the very fact that the"ding-dong" of a 7-Eleven door ranks among your emotional triggers speaks volumes about the depth of your psychological afflictions and the profoundly skewed lens through which you view the world. You’ve managed, with astonishing consistency, to twist even life’s simplest pleasures into points of grievance, Bob. You've turned 'turning a positive into a negative' an art form. It patently clear that your mental wellbeing is not so much impacted by your environment, but by yourself alone.... If only you could flip a switch and open up the balance of your perspective you could find greater enjoyment in life, Bob.

British Jumper’s Tragic Video Fuels Site Closure Demands

Indeed... Its more likely he is mowed down by an cockroach idiot delusional drink driver thinking they are safe on the roads... -
Nothing sends the boomers into a frothing keyboard frenzy quite like the mere suggestion that someone under 40 might be living life on their own terms. Whisper “digital nomad,” “influencer,” or heaven forbid, “remote work,” and you can practically hear the arthritic fingers hammering out outraged Aseannow comments. God forbid a Soy-latte-sipping millennial lingers in a café longer than the allotted 37 minutes of boomer-sanctioned social decorum and suddenly it’s the apocalypse. You’d think someone had defecated on their subscription to Readers Digest the way their blood pressure spikes. Their elasticated trousers barely hold under the strain of such modern blasphemy.

a car stopped and let me cross where there were neither lights nor a pedestrian crossing. no rhyme or reason. I've done the same plenty of times while driving... and the look of 'distrust' is quite amusing... I've stopped to let a pedestrian cross and they really hesitate and look extremely unsure as if they think the moment they step onto the road I'm going to gun it at them !!!! It is of course sensible road (pedestrian) safety on their part as giving way to pedestrians is by far the exception here.

#1 Pet hate - Motorcyclists riding straight towards you on the wrong side of the road, if you don't slow or swerve you've clipped them... #1 Pet Positive - the way so few people get confrontational, especially on the roads when people do the dumb stuff described above - one of the great positives of Thailand is the lack of confrontationalism ... but thats a double edged sword as it allows people to continue doing the silly stuff, especially on the roads.
-
Nothing wrong with making observations... Many listed are factually accurate. That does not make Thailand a bad place to be - it just means like anywhere Thailand has its faults, yet for many there is a strong net postive to being here. Nothing is perfect and there are other threads where the strong positives are discussed. Having a health outlook allows us to see both negative aspects and positive aspects of travel and life anywhere without it impacting us - making simple observations and discussion these facets both positive and negative is perfectly normal. However, the "Go home if you don't like it" type of response highlights a lack of critical thought and an inability to hold a discussion. I'm sure you don't like the 'dangers of crossing the roads here'... or you might not like some 'Thai dishes that don't suit you' etc... If you were to make such a comments does that mean you should go home ??
-
The do have lights at pedestrian crossings... According to comments on this forum: In Pattaya they turned them off because the cars were ignoring them anyway.... And yes... the BiB should be giving tickets - but when 20 motorcyclists without helmets are at a junction outside a Police Box and the police do nothing - then we can the true extent of the apathy towards enforcement of traffic regulations.

Tourist Bus Overturns in Phuket: 20 Injured
richard_smith237 replied to Georgealbert's topic in Phuket News
You mean..... the driver allowed speed to build rolling down the hill to attempt to carry momentum up the hill after the corner, but lost control on the corner due to the excessive speed.... Quite possible, but outrageously reckless - he should be substance tested, no one with any sober judgement would be attempting to take the corner at that speed... Either the owner of the bus is at fault for not ensuring the vehicle is maintained (brake failure). Or the bus driver is for reckless driving. So many incidents blamed on brake failure - how often are these vehicles really checked ? -
You raise a valid point, but it’s important to distinguish between hateful intolerance and genuine, thoughtful observation. There are some contributors on this forum who appear to harbour a deep-seated resentment towards virtually every aspect of life in Thailand. Their posts often come across as unhinged, emotionally unbalanced, and at times, verge on the paranoid - as if the entire country is somehow conspiring against them. In contrast, many others have integrated well into their local communities. They maintain meaningful friendships with Thai people and engage in open, respectful conversations - not all of which are relentlessly positive. These individuals are capable of discussing Thailand’s shortcomings in a constructive manner, and often discover that their Thai peers share similar concerns. In fact, many of the criticisms raised here mirror sentiments expressed within Thai-language forums. The problem arises when those offering balanced, nuanced critiques; for instance, on issues like road safety, are hastily labelled as Thai-bashers or even racists. This reaction tends to come from individuals who fail to recognise that such criticism can coexist with a deep appreciation for Thailand and its many strengths. Thailand is not without its flaws - no country is - and it is both reasonable and healthy to discuss these imperfections. Acknowledging them does not negate the fact that, for many, Thailand remains a strong net positive overall.

All in all thats just a very odd statement to make - as if the area you chose to live has all the guys with face tattoos and nowhere else does... Your point, well, it doesn't really make a point. I still don't know where all these scary farangs are... I just see loads of people hanging out, and sometimes see the odd one behaving like a tool, then of course we get the social media which disproportionately magnifies issues much to the pleasures of the hangem-high brigade.... Seems Gamma is scared of his own shadow....

Not condoning the LB's actions at all... ... But, events like this usually involve some sort of trigger..... Did the LB just start randomly attacking the foreigner for no reason ?... I doubt it.... I get accused (usually by MalcomB) of only ever taking the side against the Thai's.. but thats not true, as with other recent events, I see what could be an incomplete story.... ... something triggered the LB to kick off like that. I also agree - there are way to many reports of LB's on beach Road causing issues and they seem to have a 'hair-trigger'... Police do nothing.

Agreed... I think a lot of it is quite random... but primarily, the issue is defamation... A lot of the 'real news' simply cannot be reported on. -

You always accuse anyone of having an opinion that isn't wholly positive as being racist... Its ok to have a negative opinion of some of the things here... many Thai's make exactly the same observations.. Are they racist too ? Being here is a net positive and its ok to discuss both the positives and negatives - the issue is all the dim melts removing balanced context and laying accusations of racing and Thai hater etc... its idiotic. -

that’s fine. We can take it. But other cultures usually don’t. 😂😂 All good for banter... many nationalities give it, take it & its good amusement when delivered well.... some of it hilarious... ... when its unhinged bigotry - then its something else and the characters 'giving it' are usually have inner mental struggles... -

Yes... After they'd had two glasses of wine - and didn't want to blow into the *wand at a check-point. If you know what the wand is, it just registers the 'presence' of alcohol not the amount - so it would then involve either 'pay on the spot charge' to get out of it, or wait a while (an hour or so) then go to the station for the official reading... which by then would be below anyway... ... A phone call avoided the waiting around... I've also witnessed the same friends help others in similar circumstances. There's your answer... I'm sure you'll use the information to claim some delusional moral high ground to support driving after 12 beers (6x 70cl bottles - which actually takes ~10 hours to get out of your system to below DUI levels). -
