British Tourist Missing After Dive Boat Fire Near Koh Tao
richard_smith237 replied to webfact's topic in Koh Samui News
Fair point - a lot of what 'occurs' could be put down to the behavior of 'youth'... where as the Pattaya flyers club is down to age etc... different area's attract different people who get up to different things... That said: A number suspicious events have occurred on Koh Tao with the notoriety of the Island originating from the Miller / Witheridge deaths September 15, 2014: British tourists Hannah Witheridge, 23, and David Miller, 24, were found murdered on Sairee Beach. Witheridge had been sexually assaulted and both suffered fatal head injuries. Two Burmese migrant workers were convicted for the murders amid controversy over the investigation. January 1, 2015: British national Nick Pearson, 25, was found dead in the sea. Authorities ruled it an accidental drowning, but his family disputed this, citing injuries inconsistent with a fall. January 21, 2015: British traveler Christina Annesley, 23, was found deceased in her bungalow. Thai authorities suggested a possible drug interaction, but her family criticized the lack of a thorough investigation. January 2015: French tourist Dimitri Povse, 29, was discovered hanged with his hands tied behind his back. Police ruled it a suicide, a conclusion met with skepticism due to the circumstances. February 2017: Russian tourist Valentina Novozhyonova, 23, disappeared from her hotel. Despite extensive searches, her whereabouts remain unknown. April 2017: Belgian traveler Elise Dallemagne, 30, was found dead in the jungle. Authorities ruled it a suicide, but her family suspected foul play due to unexplained details surrounding her death. June 2023: British diving instructor Neil Giblin was found dead in his bungalow. The cause of death was not publicly disclosed. January 9, 2025: Irish tourist Robby Kinlan, 21, was found dead in his accommodation, reportedly from sudden cardiac failure following a diving trip. Thai authorities ruled out foul play. March 16, 2025: British tourist Alexandra Clarke, 26, went missing after a fire broke out on a dive boat near Koh Tao. She was last seen using the boat's restroom when the fire started, and despite search efforts, she remains unaccounted for. -

Why not? What good is a round one anyway? Technically an Oblate Spheroid... a flat one doesn't roll as well. -

What PPE does a dive boat actually need ??? Life Jackets / Fire Extinguishers / Lifebuoys / Flairs - this boat could easily have had all this... -

Yep, but they are in the news for the elderly getting beaten up by bouncers or idiots getting caught with drugs.... ... Not for innocent 'young back-packers' mysteriously dying or disappearing... -
That's a bit close to the truth. However I suspect this was all planned well in advance and a new footbridge was included in the overall scheme. Pity the plans were not made public, but then that seems to be the secretive way of things with government projects. Agreed... The photo just makes for the "not my job" type of threads... In reality, I'm guessing alternative plans exist.. OR... pedestrian have been completely overlooked for now, until the next bidding process when a 'pedestrian tunnel' will be required.... Which Politicians relatives company will win that bid ??? (oh, how cynical I am)...

Would you talk to a famous Youtuber if you saw them?
richard_smith237 replied to Harrisfan's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
That topic has come up a few times on here before... i.e. "do you say hello to other foreigners here ?" Answered varied from "it would be weird to say hello to every other Westerner guy just because they are westerners"... to... "why not, I don't walk around sour-faced all day" Personally - If there is a natural reason to communicate with someone, I will, I certainly won't avoid speaking with someone,... but also will not go out of my way to start a conversation with a stranger.... .... Whether thats a YouTuber, a Thai, a Westerner, or anyone of any nationality... when conversation naturally occurs, just go with the flow... -

So.... you labour under the delusion that posting in this forum somehow strips its members of a fulfilling real-world existence? hmmm... ... Perhaps you should reflect on the absurdity of that assumption before embarrassing yourself further. Meanwhile, as you so aptly demonstrate, there are those who marinate in blissful ignorance, whether by nature or design is debatable. Or perhaps you simply revel in the art of trolling, parading your own ineptitude in a desperate bid for attention. Either way, the result is equally pitiful. -

So... You are so very disinterested in any thread generated by Bob Smith that you will still open it, read it, just to agree with other posters who wish to comment about how disinterested they are in Bob Smiths' posts.... It still seems that your primary intention is somewhat 'narcissistic from the point of view that it seems to matter to you that others know how 'uninterested you are' when if truly uninterested you could simply ignore the thread and the posts of other people completely.... Its very odd behavior from someone claiming to be so disinterested... yet seems so interested in letting the Op know their feelings of disinterest... I have complete disinterest in any of the 'Trump threads'.... I just don't open them... I would go one better with: To the OP. I'm not interested in any of your reports on ANY subject. -

Thats ok... proving your ignorance of the world around you aligns with the majority of your posts - so no contradiction at all really... -
Do you have any idea what the Royal Gazette is ??? Its not a 'regular publication' like that Bangkok post - it seems your post implied that. (the Ratchakitchanubeksa) is the official public journal of Thailand, where laws, regulations, royal decrees, government announcements, and legal notices are published. It serves as the authoritative source for legal enactments and official communications from the Thai government such as: - Publication of Laws – All new laws, acts, royal decrees, and amendments must be published in the Royal Gazette before they come into effect. - Government Announcements – Official notices from ministries, departments, and government agencies. - Royal Decrees and Proclamations – Any announcements from the monarchy, including royal appointments and honours. - Public and Private Legal Notices – Includes company registrations, court rulings, and other legally required disclosures. Thus: the mere mention that a law has been published (or not) in the Royal Gazette indicates its official legality... i.e. if The Thaiger or Bangkok post reports that a Law has been published in the Royal Gazette - this would indicate it is official.

If maintaining detailed records of your travel history is truly as crucial as you suggest, I assume you already keep your boarding passes etc and a meticulously documented list of your entry and exit dates ?? However, if you don’t engage in such meticulous record-keeping, then perhaps the importance you’re placing on maintaining ‘proof of location’... specifically tracking your times in and out of Thailand, is not as critical as you try to make it appear in the context of this discussion. Furthermore, many individuals possess multiple passports, which further complicates the notion of a singular travel record. Looking ahead, in the near future, traditional passports may become obsolete, replaced by a fully biometric identification card that will streamline international travel, making physical travel documents redundant in most cases.

so don't read my threads then you moron. same goes for you. why are you on my threads constantly if you don't like them? Completely Valid points... Its so easy to just skip over a thread - why do those posters feel its so important that everyone else knows they are not interested in Bob's Posts... Thats more ridiculous than the initial posts themselves !!! IF Bob were to ask a question "why don't you like my posts" then there would be a reason to comment. -
Man, 48, Drowns in Wastewater Pond Rescuing Pet Dog
richard_smith237 replied to Georgealbert's topic in Isaan News
Its also tragic that so many drown in such pond when solutions are so overwhelmingly simple... Due to the steep and slippery sides they're impossible to climb out off... With just a little forethought, a simple rope on a couple of the sides would resolve this issue and potentially save so many lives.. Even a bamboo ladder fixed to the side... How much extra effort with that really take ? the issue of course a complete absense of forethought towards safety. Perhaps those who 'own' such ponds should be held accountable for at least providing some basic safety equipment - a rope across the centre, and ladders at two sides - force people (owners) into taking responsibility. The true tragedy of course is the amount of kids to drown in ponds in Thailand (with drowning being the leading cause of death in those under 16 yrs old). -
Its astonishing how often this happens here (in the USA too). Or just didn't look... didn't look at all... its this type of driver who also doesn't look when pulling out of a regular junction. So... Passengers in the back of a Pickup are or aren't allowed ?? I know its illegal, but the Police seem to have a very relaxed attitude towards this... People dying year round getting thrown out of the flat-beds of pickups... Are we expecting another announcement in the next few weeks: Authorities reminding the populace that riding in the back of a pickup is illegal. Police threatening to fine people who brake such a law. Locals in pick-up complaining that they are being victimised because they are poor. The police back-tracking and stating its ok but just for Songkran !!..
