  1. I have it on good authority that the rubber bands that tightly keep your mrs plastic bags of somtum so tight and fresh, actually come from a condom factory.

In the making of rubbers, circular elasticy pieces are discarded in the process. Contrary to popular belief, rubber bands as we know it do not come from rubber trees - they come from rubbers themself.

So the next time you get the urge to pop one in your mouth and roll it around, picture in your mind a factory in China producing condoms.

The size thing should be self-explanatory.

  2. I don't get to see many hotel rooms as I live here (I can give you better advice for other cities), but the Oriental is the most romantic place at which I have stayed in Bangkok.

PB Hotel (ex main building) are the most romantic, round beds mirrors and all, good value for money too. :o

  3. Yep, I was on a 747/400 that didn't have a refit, no screens in the seat backs, no PC plugs, and hardly any choice of movies, 15 crap channels, that was it !!!!, No games, nothing......in fact I just used my iPod the whole trip, very dissapointing especially as I was using Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific Business class before, but Singapore Airlines were full on the date I wanted so Thai it was.

Singapore Airlines will be seeing me again for sure.

Thai business class? No way, unless the planes get modernized, the Fast Track was useful, and not queing up with the peasants in economy is good and I had a nice shower in the lounge but the plane was dissapointing, I'm sure it was the same one I used in 1990 when I first came to Thailand! :D

What route was that? The ones that fly from London are much more modern.

To be honest, the 747/400 they use on LHR-BKK (TG916/TG917) route is a relativey 'old' plane and is pretty rubbish compared to other airlines, but most of the time (5 times this year), I get a row of 3 seats in Economy, which is better than being crammed onto EVA Air....albeit with better entertainment.

The strange thing is that Thai Airways use a almost new Airbus A340 from BKK-CNX, which I always do Business (nice after a long trip to use lounge etc) has massaging fully flat seats (albeit at a slight angle) and is really comfortable.....but.....

I have a question for Thai Airways......why use a crappy old 747 for the long haul to London and a spanking new all-singing and dancing A340 for a 1hr hop from BKK-CNX???

Guessing this will probably change under the new administration :o

  4. Thailand is now too expensive for folks with crappy base currencies, like the Brits and the Scandinavians.

People with real money in their pocket, i.e. euro, yen etc have no problem at all. Unless you wanna eat & drink in Thai just as you do in farangland, Thai is still dirty cheap, even in the most touristic spots. :D

Nonsense, I think it might depend on what type of salary you are earning. Thos with money will still go to expensive destinations, and Thailand is certainly not one of the most expensive destinations around.

In some way the high prices might actually keep some of the crap away. As for the Euro, it is already starting to lose value again.

Price of Cider though is dam_n expensive, if I was to convert it back into pounds 4 quid. :o

Luckily getting paid in baht has it's advantages, as it'll be nice and cheap going back to the UK for a holiday this year, and the currency fluctuations dont affect my day to day expenditures.

(crappy game last night) Mr Toad, going back to the UK is unlikely to be cheaper as inflation tends to jump when currency weakens (eg, imported goods get more expensive). But as long as you stick to local fish and chips, you should be able to catch a bargain or two.

  5. Me and my partner enjoyed the Davis Hotel, you have your own 8 man jacuzzi AND sauna in your suite... :D

I don't think sharing a jacuzzi with 8 men is what the OP had in mind, but being Bangkok, one can never tell. :o

  6. I visited a friend in that soi yesterday.

The Regent building is so quiet and dead....nothing is happening.

I always wonder why the builder would stop or pause the construction project. Don't they want to finish the project asap so they can collect the rest of the money from buyers and make their projected earnings? After all, they started construction after they have collected enough fund/payment from the buyers, so where did the money go? Unless.....they spent the money on something else and lost it all.

No banks will lend to any real estate development project now, that's for sure.

I feel sorry for the Regent buyers now.

Scott, chances are the construction company went belly up when the raw material costs went through the roof and they couldn't deliver to SC at the agreed price. see Steveoman or quicksilva if you require further thoughts.

  7. Not a totally inexperienced team sent out by Sir Alex

    Man Utd:

Kuszczak, Rafael Da Silva, Vidic, Evans, O'Shea, Anderson (Carrick 74), Scholes (Ronaldo 63), Gibson, Nani, Tevez, Welbeck (Rooney 63).

Subs Not Used: Amos, Giggs, Fletcher, Possebon

when you have a big squad like us and play in alot of competitions, chances are your team will become experienced. compare the starting line-up this coming sunday against chelski with the one you played against last night before getting too excited mate.

anyways, fergie already said you guys deserved to win.

  8. It's not often i want Man Ure to win but i did last night as they've got more chance of beating the Pond Life in the Final, & look what they go & do ??

    No wonder i <deleted> hate them !!! :o

not over yet, wait for the second leg.

  9. Short of the four seasons most of these buffets are questionable.

Sheraton Grande, JW Marriott, Shangri-la, Oriental, Westin, Marriott, Peninsula, Hilton Millenium, Sheraton - Too name but a few excellent buffets as good as and in some cases better than the four seasons.

Miracle Grand have an excellent buffet at Lunch time, you can choose between, Thai, European and Japanese food. Its rather expensive but worth every Bath.

You mean that place out near the old airport?

Anyways, the best Sunday brunch buffets are Sukhothai and Marriot Riverside.

  10. Hi All,

are you aware of condo places charging for say wedding photos being taken there?

The complex we live in has featured in commercials. Just a shoot of the outside of our building was quoted at 5,000 Baht.

Q: what is normal? How much do wedding parties pay for a quick shot at such a complex? Looks like someone is confused and quoting commercial prices.

Q: so one does not have the right to take a shot of the place one owns or rents and lawfully lives in?! :D:D:o

    Cheers!

Go to a nice park mate, the one behind Seacon Square is fantastic and free. The focus of any wedding photo should be the bride and groom, not the sign that says "hey we are hiso, look at where we live", but to each his own.

  11. suffice to say that all our farang letters to True will go no where fast as long as the local population's facination with football is extended only to the EPL top 4-5 and those times when these teams meet up in a FA Cup or Carling Cup final.

  12. sounds to me that the booze ad ban is playing a role somehow in all of this too.

Maybe, as it could be the reason ESPN did not get Premier League rights as well last year. Premier League and FA rights are sold separately in Asia, I believe. At least they have different renewal dates and separate PR releases. They operate as separate entities, anyway, so I don't see why they'd sell TV rights together. Can't find the official FA and Premier League press releases, but see how ESPN got the FA and Premier League rights separately here and here.

But interesting that last year ESPN gave up on Premier League in Thailand and gave up on FA matches this year.

ESPN did not give up on the EPL in Thailand. True decided it did not want to pay the fee to ESPN /STAR and went a different route.

  13. Is it true Liverpool had the best Premier League record of the calendar year of 2008? Man U probably played two less games as this season they have played two less, but is that right?

Not sure about that but did read something about it being their highest point total for a calendar year in nearly two decades. I wonder if they is a trophy for this fine accomplishment? :o

  14. I heard the fight actually started in the bathroom cause pretty boy was hogging the mirror again.

i heard that you suck farts out of dead cats :o

now now, don't go trying to upgrade my opinion of you fine upstanding LP folk.
