  1. I take that back. there was one camera apparently...

I find it somewhat humorous that the police give a guy a breath test for booze at 10 am and are appealing to the world for witnesses.

stevie, when you ding your car up on the way back from the pub, do the police up there send out an APB for witnesses?

i'm guessing that the officers on the scene were city fans. if there'd be a convenient staircase nearby ronaldo could have found himself headlong down it.

surely they could have done the old "walk in a straight line" or "dribble a ball on your head" routine to see if he was pissed up on the way to practice?

  2. Very difficult undertaking. Work permits, paying off the appropriate authorities, marketing.

However, if you can get all that done, then it might have a chance to take off and be successful.

There is some island over phuket way that is actually in Burma, where you might be able to organise such an event.

first off all, there is no need of an working permit. I see an event like this as entertainment and not as a way to make money.

I don't have to work or anything, just talking to the right people.

then I don't know about rule 1 or 2 because I never was in an fighting club, not yet :o .

But I got 1 big question, why is this sport event illegal?

thank you all for your opinions and sorry for my bad english

You ABSOLUTELY WILL need a work permit.

I'm not sure where you live, but I know this area pretty good and I know when I need a WP or not.

maybe in the tourist areas they are watching every step you do, but not here.

I really would like to know if people would be interested.

    thank you

where you thinking of holding this event? "thriller in the south", "Punch Up in Patani" or "Knock out in Naritiwat".

"Smackdown on Samui" has a nice ring to it.

  4. There only three things i have found more expensive in thailand than the west imported food, wine and cars. amazing :o

That implies that the cars are imported too.

    Which are not.

Locally made car ( I know of Honda Jazz) is about 2% more expensive in Thailand than in Japan.

While Thai workers who made it are paid 10% of what Japanese get.

    Imported cars is a complete different issue. Price in Thailand are at least 100% higher than in Europe;

the Thai car market is lousy, the choices in sedans are very limited and very expensive except pick ups, Fortuners or MU7's.

Its almost impossible to find a diesel sedan, while in Europe almost 30% of sedan cars are Turbo diesels. In Belgium even over 50%.

volvo, bmw and merc have diesel sedans, as for your other numbers, thailand compares well to North America in terms of the number diesels on the road.

  6. Haven't been there but have had lunch and a drink in the pub downstairs.

It seems to be a nightclub of some description up above the pub and wasn't open at the lunch time.

It's right at the bottom of the stairs from the Asoke BTS on the opposite side of the road from Soi 21.

thanks - i appreciate your response - was just tryng to get some info on the place -

Today, I had a chance to talk to the owner (a friend) and he said that now that they have had a chance to evaluate the location, they have decided that converting it to a nightclub made the most sense. Hence, it is not closing, just changing the club format.

Good idea, the upstairs portions are very nicely decorated

  7. I bet there will be alot of signup alot of farang muay thai fighters are currently broke hehehehe since after new year party lol

maybe you can put up some signs around foodland on soi 5 for further diversification.

  8. As far as i know most fighters based in Thailand are not willing to put up their money for any entry fees to any tournament lol ... they just wanna fight get that fight fee and thats it.. lol hahah unless you talk to their trainers or manager who always likes to gamble and help you with this.

What kind of rules ? MMA , Muay Thai K-1 Rules ? or no rules lol

Even though you say its just a matter of who's who needs to be paid i dont thing its going to work. unless you do something like street fights similar to what Kimbo slice did on Internet lol

Actually I thought of "real" amateur fights, like just bored businessman, the drunken german from the bar across the street,...

Sure I have to think about the fees and prizes!

But it would be real fun, wouldn't it?

Yes it would, but so would winning the lottery and that's not gonna happen anytime soon either I gather.

  9. bkkjamie ... hah i no needa hold yr hand. the sexy women-alike selling Som Tam will do it :D another option is taxi motorbike guys !

RJT - we are nice not psycho, aren't we? :o or only u r psycho?

CB - yey think i'm allergic to cake now .... itchy itchy :D

you like holding the hand of somtam sellers thithi? sounds kinda fishy to me.

  10. You won't find many genuine non fighters who could go 5 x 2 they gas out after 3 x 2

What rules are you thinking of ?

In Australia you have the boxing tents that go around mostly in the bush, they have maybe 6 fighters on staff and you jump in the ring against them, most of these guys can handle themselves and they only go as hard on the amatuer as he is giving, it works well and is a great night out. The prize is $100 for a win but I would say maybe only 1 in 30 amatuers would win if you were lucky.

Maybe something like this might be worth considering.

I'm not sure about the rules yet.

But I think this would become an real attraction for fighters and for watchers :D .

As we all know, thais love sports (betting), and watching some amateurs giving theyr best while drinking a Chang or a bottle of whiskey...

I really need some opinions from you.

    Thank you!

    btw, would you fight?

The first rule in Thailand is no gambling mate. :o The second rule it is not an amateur fight if you are awarding prizes. Although I would like to see this, I think you are in for a long frustrating struggle to get it off the ground.

  11. Hi guys, I'm planning to open a fight club here and want to know what you all think of it.

    There will be 2 classes:

    standard: entry money 1000 THB

    prize: New Motorcycle

    fighters: entry money 10.000THB

    prize: New Pickup

everybody can enter, thais and farang.

    5 rounds a 2 minutes.

what you think? ready for fight?

I think the biggest fight you will have is with the authorities and underworld figures...but good luck mate.

  12. Scott, chances are the construction company went belly up when the raw material costs went through the roof and they couldn't deliver to SC at the agreed price. see Steveoman or quicksilva if you require further thoughts.

the cost of raw material may be one of the reasons, but I doubt. During the the price hike period in the last couple years, plenty of other construction project were successfully completed, and even now, there are many construction actively in progress. Just a few steps away, the Sofitel construction is finishing up nicely.

In additonal, ever since the subprime and economy recession last year, the material cost has come down quite a bit.

I wonder why there is no official explaination of the delay from Regent itself. Buyers are left to speculate the reason. Did the construction company went belly up because of the raw material cost or because of some other reasons? was there any fraudulent conduct involved? anybody is free to guess. In Thailand, transperency is not a high priority issue.

It's kinda irrelevant why the company went ti*ts up, the fact remains the same as far as a developer is concerned. Most big developers lock in their con-costs, but when the raw materials skyrocket, construction companies face a challenge to produce.

As for your subprime theory, the Regent was in trouble long before that showed it's ugly face. Like every development in the world, buyers are given an approx completion date.

As for its status now, a few months back the developer and sales agent I believe sent out a letter to buyers saying that construction would commence again - and from what I see, it has.

  13. Me and my partner enjoyed the Davis Hotel, you have your own 8 man jacuzzi AND sauna in your suite... :D

I don't think sharing a jacuzzi with 8 men is what the OP had in mind, but being Bangkok, one can never tell. :o

How presumptuous to think that we shared our jacuzzi with 8 other men! Thats not our scene even if we do live in Bangkok. The OP said 'romantic' not 'seedy'! I was merely pointing out how big the tub was James! :D

It's ok Sarah, sharing one with 8 women is fine too. :D

  14. jesus, how fast was he going?

it only takes about 50k to do that kind of damage when hitting a wall.

On a different note, I see Mr. Jose will be on hand for our clash with the blues. Alot is being written that he is there to scout for next draw with Utd in the Champions League - I don't believe it.

His other motives are as follows.

    a) unsettle big phil and the boys (hope it works)

    and

:o the game is only a distraction, the real reason he is in town is CITY.

  15. karma is a wonderful thing stevie, hope mr torres keeps his head up this weekend :o

i'm an atheist james mate. don't believe in karma. i do believe in the mockers though. :D

not sure torres is going to play tomorrow to be honest. he might be on the bench again.

with or without him, pretty sure you will handle the stokies though.

  16. are we allowed to laugh at cronaldo in here :D fantastic piece of stunt driving crashing his ferrari in a tunnel after skidding on ice (ice in a tunnel :D )

the car is a write of so it must have been at fairly high speed, but a witness said he saw the greaseball get out of his car and walk away from the crash, however if mike riley had been nearby we would have seen all manner of theatrics rolling around on the floor and in need of an ambulance :o

if he'd bought the farm i'd have gone out and got hammered.

karma is a wonderful thing stevie, hope mr torres keeps his head up this weekend :D

  17. Wow, i think the key to this & the blame shoudl be with Van Der Sa, he obviously didn't organise the Wall properly !!! :o

    Sorry, couldn't resist..

hehe. i'm impressed with ronaldo here. he can get out and walk away from a ferrari write-off but a tap on the ankle from a premier league defender and he goes down faster than a ten-bob hooker.

the difference is stevie boy there were no cameras or refs around :D

feel free to take shots at CR on here. Lord knows if it what superman Stevie G in the wreck while checking his hair in the mirror, somehow it would be the tunnels fault and Mr Riley would have given it a red card and had it destroyed.

  19. From a human point of view im glad he's ok, but Man U players seem to be involved in too many of these situations, maybe Sir Fergie the lying speeding champagne socialisist ought to let his players go through the courts without the best solicitors in the world in these situations like the rest of us insignificant people who may end up dead at the bumper of one of his superstar footballer that copies him ... such as Martins.

hmm, first one i have heard of in quite some time,,, perhaps see a doctor about your spidy senses mate :o

  20. let me say this, i would rather go head to head with you on the pitch and not a quiz show.

hehe. not once i'd nutmegged you for the third time you wouldn't. :o

you have to catch me first mate, I am quicker that Machoramos mouth!

  21. not much I must admit, but I am sure you will help me figure it out. :o

be happy to tiger. he's a middle to upper class arsehol_e who thinks that claiming to be a millwall supporter makes him 'real' and a football fan. he also left his wife and two children for a younger woman who he then subsequently assaulted while she was pregnant. he's a classy piece of work alright. and that's before even beginning to critique the bullshit article he penned, full of lazy stereotypes and pisspoor generalisations.

let me say this, i would rather go head to head with you on the pitch and not a quiz show.
