  1. ozzydave.

re ... There is a great spot for breakfast just north of the Top North Hotel entry - was 100B for a full english breaky. Not only was it cheap, the food was GREAT, and the service fantastic.

i might be wrong but i think your talking about the gatehouse bar

if so the 100 baht breakfast and the evening food was good but the girl who ran the food / bar bit in the front went home for songkran ( early april ) and never came back

i miss her ( cooking ) and sausage king misses her buying his stuff but your right her food was good

    dave2

ps .. mad dog serves sausage kings pies so all is not lost for me : )

The said girls never went anywhere, just didnt want to work for the (no Comment) owner of the bar(For many reasons),after raising it from the gutters and quadrupling the normal takings through boyfriends/friends/of friends etc(Money in their own pocket as they rented it of the owner).owner trys to run on his own but apparently oblivious to real life. Another clueless retaurant owner in CM,with 0 Personality...som nam na

  2. Cooler Weather,Nicer more Genuine People(Many places down south we are just another farang ie too many of us),cheaper Prices, good countryside, very safe in the city, less rip off low life merchants up here as a rule(ie the Boiler room telephone boys) ETC ETC

NO BEACH in Chiang Mai,so less SCUM come here on Holiday is a massive plus:)

Good looking women (not talking about the Darker skinned ladies of the night either, although im sure many of the dirty old men that are here, live here because there is too much competition in certain other places for said ladies of the night:))

Think this thread could go on a while!!!!

Wow, what a pejorative post. Thaivisa members please take note that according to Chiangmai Foxy that.............

If you like beaches you are more than likely to be scum.............

If you are male and old you are by definition dirty.............

If you are the aforementioned dirty old man then you are also scared of competition................

I think a course in "Self Awareness" should be on someone's shopping list, but no doubt said person sincerely believes they are one of the "Genuine People". :annoyed:

Self Awareness? Couldnt be happer mate

I am way under 40 years old,i am financially secure,i am married to a dentist,i have been to many of the major european 'brit' beach destinations, and they for a fact attract far more scum than non beach resorts(Brits usually)shamed to say.Chiang mai doesnt get as many B*ll ends as pattaya ie.As for the quotes on the old men!!!! Many have said to me that they come here as too many 'Farang" down saaaath,so less choice of the ladies of he night!!!

Some people here are actually geniune and happy, with no issues, sure we all rant at certain things.Come for a beer with the boys and relax...we have ex paras, teachers, spanish expacts,ex stock exchange cronies, early retirees....etc (no boiler room boys)

  4. At least someone new will be making good use of an excellent venue, well done to Red Mango for keeping at a going concern, although I was never in town to enjoy it...

Yeh agreed...Fantastic venue and even better parking, with the option of never been able to play music reasonably loud, due to the guesthouses opposite....

Still sunday dinners are ok apparantly :)

  5. Depends how you want to watch...Big screen or Large Tv,atmosphere etc.......

Un or Red lion great for a big screen,or if you want to watch with 20 or so young foreigners into sport,go to blue sky bar, muan muang road, next to [email protected] until 4am,and Large Leo's and Changs are 55 baht all day from 8am to 8pm if anyone is on a budget! Depends how old you are, what your scene is.

Also 2 Pool tables if you get bored of the Golf

  6. I know several advertisers/members of TV who will promote their business when the opportunity arises. Others promote new product and or special prices now and again. They also contribute to various topics without a mention of their business. Some are astute enough to recognize that if someone has a interest in their establishment, they will review the advert and contact them personally, if they need additional info. Others do not seem to follow this fine example, of business sense.

I also did not understand " added as friend" timing at all, but I have my suspicions.

Whoa!! What's this "added as a friend" bit!! About 20 minutes ago I received a notice that I (Yep, ME!!!) had been added to MacW's "friends" list. I have never talked to the guy except in the give and take of the open forum. At that point, seems there were 274 friends on his list !!!!!!!! Not Facebook, but it must be a record for ThaiVisa!!!

Mmm,i got added also, very sad indeed!!!!

He is watching our every post,be warned :)ha ha

Dont mention the best breakfast/fish and chips in cmai

  7. What was the complaint. ?:)

Basically that the teachers were a little bit too funny. They are all young females so there is certainly a lot of joy at the Walen school in Chiangmai. Some jokes could unintentionally offend someone. The situation is corrected now so we will not have this problem anymore.

Mac the more I read over your OP and your subsequent replies, it is clearly evident that this is nothing more than a failed attempt for you to market Walen by a misleading post.

When asked, "What was the complaint" you replied, "Basically that the teachers were a little bit too funny. They are all young females so there is certainly a lot of joy at the Walen school in Chiangmai. Some jokes could unintentionally offend someone. The situation is corrected now so we will not have this problem anymore".

There is nothing in the OP that even comes remotely close to what you are inferring. In fact most people would describe that as a 'glowing' testimonial. Mac do you honestly expect people to believe that that email amounts to a complaint worthy of you posting it on TV.

I would be interested in your thoughts.

    here here...

Self advertising gone horrifically wrong. Why post this, who cares,it makes you look desperate and unsuccessful, the majority will not believe this period, even if your teachers are ,young and gentle pmsl

  8. Surely if you are party animal at this time of the year, and the rain is affecting your life so much, then you find a bar you like at 5 minutes to 4!!!!!

Or get to to town on 4 wheels(or even even 3)

Btw its strange how many people love the rainy season as its quiet!!! Less Farang etc,God i'd hate to be over 40/50 or whatever age you guys are who moan constantly about too many tourists. The only conclusion i can give to that,is that you must drink in ermmm certain establishments where you get more competition during 'Farang' season..Dont get me wrong,i dont miss the backpackers in wife beater vests carrying a small chang around the moat(and i live here and still reasonably youngish-mid 30's,but hey i am still in somebodys elses country,so i dont preach/bitch.

  9. dont bother if you want a burger go to dukes why waste your time driving around the city looking for good food for the money you can not beat the dukes

patty melt is the best thing in a bun you can get in town without anyone coming even close

you wasted your time in the rest now try the best

maybe you should learn punctuation methods.ie commas,,,,,,full stops......instead of preaching,in YOUR opinion.

  10. They sell the Black liverpool shirt at CMfutsol courts club shop (next to the quuen victoria pub)

They also sell all major international and club shirts,With the arm badges, name numbers etc optional.

About 350-400 i think, cant tell any difference really, even the holograms etc look real enough

  11. You definately wont get House music in the farang populated meat markets such as spicy !!!! only old hip hop/r and b and such like mainstream pop.

young foreigners into music who live here tend to go to the upmarket clubs (with not too many foreigners) such as Warm up,fabric,Discovery,Fashion house or Monkey for example. If you are here to meet westerners try the popular reggae area next to Un irish or hot shots.

  12. Yeah, the squirrel in a cage idea sounds bad to me as well.

I live in an apt bldg next to some old growth trees that are huge.

Watching the squirrels running and jumping from branch to branch, occasionally farking up and falling...doing their squirrel thing gives me no end of pleasure- why would anyone want to put such a creature in a small cage as a pet?

Buy a rabbit instead. Lucky for you, lucky for squirrel.....:)

Absolutely right, but what i think the op forget to mention is that he is not referring to the squirrel's we see in the trees and like, his said friend probably had a Sugar Glider, which are one of the fastest growing pets in the west(never mind asia) and live up to 5 years longer as pets.Even had a 1 hour show on animal planet Australia saying they make good pets(if looked after correctly of course)Not that im saying i agree.ps they sleep between 20-22 hours a day,so not ideal a pet even though they bond with you like a baby

  13. Sold in many markets around chiang mai.Baby Sugar Glder Squirrels(Australian) are very popular as pets in thailand(even in europe)

Very tame and clingy animals when they get to know you. They need a good balanced diet of fruits and veg

Need big cages to glide around, which can be bought near cm gate at various pet shops.

Youtube - sugar glider, and see how popular they are

  14. You have indicated that price is not of importance, so i suggest you invest some of that money and get yourself to Chiang Mai and look at various areas and properties that are available.

Chiang Mai isn't such a big city and you could cover most of the better condo buildings within 3 or 4 days.

    Good luck

    Howard

Thanks for all the replies so far. I'm in Chiang Mai currently and will do just as you suggest. I'm in no hurry to do this, as I'll only be here 3 months this year, but I plan on coming back repeatedly, and its nice to have a place that's yours, where you can store your stuff. And that has private internet :).

I was thinking this might be a good place to start, as obviously many of the buildings do look in desperate need for repair.

Also, my idea of 'best' is whichever building would sell for the most money per square foot not including location.

If you care ot pop in to The Olde Bell on Loi Kroh Rd, over the weekend, me or one of the regulars would be happy ot chat to you about condos - or any other subject you are interested in!

    mmmm. old bell advertising

"come to my bar someone will chat to you about ANYTHING YOU are interested in".

As long as you dont ask about the quiz or Hm flag

  15. I thought that I had addressed your comment about "all the big bikes shooting off" but here it is again.

I lead the ride every year and will do so again this year. There was no "shooting off" by the big bikes and in fact there was a little Dream type bike and a Phantom right behind me at the departure.

Once again I will give a 5 minute warning that we are preparing to leave and to get your helmet on and be ready to go - perhaps you missed this part last year. Volunteers will Marshall the bikes so that departure is orderly, however each rider needs to pay attention and to be ready to leave on time.

There will be a police escort in front and in the rear to try and keep some semblance of order and keep the group together.

We are trying to get more small bikes to participate in the ride as they are the majority of bikes in Thailand. Given that our goal is to get as many riders as possible, in order to help as many kids as possible; it follows that the ride would cater to smaller bikes and not "shoot off" leaving them behind. In any case, it is pretty difficult to shoot off with the cops in the front. This year I am leading the ride on my Royal Enfield Bullet, so at an alledged 22 Hp there most assurdly will be no shooting off. Ride speed will be such that a Honda Dream type bike can keep up.

If you have some constructive comments on how to better organise the event we would love to hear them, and perhaps you could volunteer to help marshall the start so that no one is left behind.

Wow,i will be there with camera in tow.Royal enfield bullet! I will take photos for my dad back in blighty who builds british bikes.i rembember him reconditioning a bullet, then rebuilding a 68 triumph bonneville, a 72' norton commando, and a bsa gold star.

lol i only have a yamaha fino...but he did warn me off bigger bikes

    :)

ps will there be a website with photos showing.I remember n1 bar being involved before, but no adveritising this year which is a shame

  16. True Visions ridiculously don't show the UEFA games at all, so no chance of even watching it the next day, unless there's somewhere with a dish that actually receives it. However, they are showing Birmingham v Newcastle at 0245, which will be repeated the next day.........I mean why would anyone want to see a couple of the world's best teams play a UEFA match, when a meaningless Birmingham v Newcastle game is available?

    Many Uefa cup games on truesports 1-5 tonight(Friday am).Including Liverpool v sparta,rangers vs sporting,benfica v stuttgart.

More info - just google true visions, bangkok post or the nation newspapers

I should have qualified UEFA Champions League games, that are shown on the Thai TV section of TrueVisions, but no chance of watching them the next day, as I don't think Thai TV repeats them.

The Liverpool game is the Europa League, not Champions League.

yes i know, all the games i listed above are europa league(old uefa cup) and were on true sports last night

like you say champions league games are only on thai tv 3 and 7
